And right on cue after my edit:

Noah Dobson is looking for a new deal and talks are ongoing. That being said, I feel that Dobson could be traded in the next few days if the gap is too big between the two sides.
Utah just traded a RHD in Kesselring by the way - Gabe Athaus
Dobson probs gets us Utah’s pick and maybe a third. The first probs gets us Hagens.
I think there’s smoke here. |

If you are trading into #4 with Dobson, Hagens is likely all you're getting. - keaner17
I don't necessarily think so. Young RHD with a majorly high ceiling is worth more than a lottery ticket to me. Not saying he'll land the Isles the 4th overall, a star prospect, and a top6/top4 player...but I think he'd get more than just a single draft pick. |

Going purely off my own gut feeling, it's starting to feel like Dobson is going to get shipped out. Saw something that Montreal has inquired about him as well, but not sure they have what the Isles want |

I think my concern there is that Utah would hold all of the leverage. We all know that Dobson is a great talent. Still, he's reportedly seeking a 8 figure contract as a RFA coming off a 39 point season where he was flat out awful defensively. (He's technically always been a defensive liability). Meanwhile, the same geo-based love affair folks have for Hagens and potential marketing bliss for the team all play against them too.
The only way I see him ending up here is if ownership pressures Darche. Darche has no local ties and therefore doesn't have the same hard-on for Hagens that most folks clamoring for him do. Utah needs a young star and Hagens would generate much more excitement than Dobson. They have no urgency to make that trade, given the $$ invovled |

A lot of smoke for sure Gabe.
Probably wouldn’t believe it any other year but, Dobson struggled last year and maybe Roy and him aren’t seeing eye to eye. Also 11 mil is too much and they may be firm.
Additionally the fact Hagens will probably be around at #4 and the kid wants to be an Islander.
I’m starting to think the same.
Also it would be a great story and also generate a lot of buzz about the Isles. |

The isles have other assets to acquire the 4th overall pick if they are serious about reuniting Eiserman with Hagens at the professional level. From Pageau, or Holmstrom, possibly Danny Nelson, or the Brock Nelson first. To me this makes sense for the culture of the isles going forward. It’s instant chemistry for a young rebuilding team.
Eiserman and Hagens played WJs together as well as BU where Hagens sets up Eiserman. It’s the perfect 1/2 punch. |

Would love to get Hagens as well.
I dont think JGP gets it done honestly.
Why would you want to trade Holmstrom?
Kids young and getting better and better each year. To get that pick from Utah you are going to have to give them something they want/ need. A RH DMan fits the bill. So I think if Utah trades that pick away to the Isles I think it will be Dobson or Romy. Personally I don’t want either to go but if Dobson wants 11 million.
See ya Noah.
I hope I’m wrong and JGP and …?…. Can get it done because I think it would be a great story and adds a great young player to the team that wanted to be an Islander his whole life growing up and now. |

Just an update, the Canadiens have had talks on Dobson, but you can add the Columbus Blue Jackets and a third team I'm working to identify.
Columbus is seemingly talking to everyone.

I've heard San Jose or St Louis.
Interesting situation, but both have a need there. |

I’m only saying the isles have other assets other than Dobson, and yeah 11 million is extremely high for his last season stats but who knows what’s true.
I’m ok with parting ways with Holmstrom, and not because I don’t think he’s got talent, I just think you gotta give to get.
When Darche talked about community that’s code for the owners wanna sell seats. Aquiring a local kid who will ultimately be a tandem with Eiserman will sell jerseys and seats.

Utah is rumored to want a roster player, so Nelson/picks/etc... aren't going to move the needle for them. Maybe they can use some of those assets to get to 6 or 7, but not holding my breath. Holmstrom is the only really valuable one you mentioned. |

$11M was just his ask, I don't think anyone actually believes he'll get that number. But $10M is entirely realistic. |

10 figures! Even Shohei Otani didn't get that! (I'm joking, I know what you meant )
No GM really has ever had "ties" to the front office. I'm sure Darche would love Hagens because it's a marketing/PR dream and, more importantly, he's a hell of a talented player. But he's not going to leverage massive pieces just to draft the kid. I think if he can get a pick where they can take Hagens and the price is reasonable, he'll do it. Otherwise, Dobson can be shopped if they can't agree on an extension and probably get multiple high-end pieces in return. So far in the last hour or two I've seen:
- Montreal
- St Louis
- San Jose
- Utah
- Columbus
all rumored as having interest in Dobson. Maybe SJ gives them the 2nd overall for Dobson and they can trade back a few picks, stockpile more draft capital, and still get Hagens. Maybe he trades Dobson for Kyrou, or Dobson for a haul from MTL. Who knows. |

oof. Meant eight figures and around $10mm
My guess here is that the isles have done due diligence to assess Dobson's value as negotiations continue. I dont believe Dobson alone gets you to 2 and if it did I would take Misa in a heartbeat rather than trading back for Hagens.
The best chance for Hagens would be if he falls out of the top five, which may happen. As a GM i seriously doubt that Darche is considering overpaying for a marketing ploy, unless he were pressured to do so We'll see. The idea of winding up with two top five picks would be amazing but I think the insinuated motivation is all for the wrong reasons. There are a lot of concerns to Hagens game and way too many people going nuts just because he's local. Dangerous pool at a pivotal point for the franchise |

I can't even remember the last time a top five pick was traded for a player....it's been long enough that any comparison would be irrelevant, I guess |

Well, we traded down from 5 to 7, then 9. We got the 7th and 68th pick and 2009 37th pick by trading from 5 |

I was fine at $9.5M and was assuming that was where he was going to come in around. I'd probably go to $10M. I wouldn't go to $10,000,000.01 though. If he's looking for over 10 I'd wish him the best and ship him out.
Problem is a new team is going to have to pay him, so he has some leverage here. If he doesn't want to sign somewhere then that team isn't forking over a haul for him and the Isles can't get peanuts back for a 25yo RHD with a lot of potential |

Islanders engaged in Noah Dobson trade discussions with Blues, Canadiens, others: Sources
The New York Islanders are entertaining trade discussions on restricted free agent Noah Dobson, according to league sources.
The Islanders explored a potential extension with Dobson before starting to gauge the market on the 25-year-old right-shot defenseman, who is in line for a big raise on the $4 million cap hit his previous contract carried.
Dobson has just one year of team control remaining with the possibility of unrestricted free agency looming next summer, and he’s a top-10 scorer among NHL defensemen across the past four seasons.
The number of teams with interest in Dobson is high, but it’s not clear how many clubs can both meet the significant acquisition cost the Islanders are seeking in a trade and compel the player to sign a long-term contract to complete the transaction.
The Montreal Canadians and St. Louis Blues are among the teams that have engaged in trade discussions with the Islanders, according to league sources.
At this stage, it’s unclear where the situation lands. The process is described as amicable, and Dobson will be eligible to sign an offer sheet if he remains without a contract when the free-agent market opens Tuesday.
Dobson has spent his entire career on Long Island after being drafted No. 12 by the Islanders in 2018. He had a career-best 70 points for the team two years ago and finished last season with 10 goals and 39 points in 71 games.
It is a big summer in New York, where Mathieu Darche was hired to replace Lou Lamoriello as general manager May 23. Earlier this week, Darche told reporters he hoped to sign all of his pending RFAs, which include Alexander Romanov, Simon Holmstrom and Maxim Tsyplakov, in addition to Dobson.
Nothing really new here, but posting it anyway |

There's a real sense that a Dobson trade could happen by tonight given the possibility of a first-round pick from tonight being included in the trade. St. Louis, Montreal and Columbus among the teams with interest.

On Noah Dobson: have heard this morning his preference is to stay in the Eastern Conference.
So keep that in mind as talks around him continue |

Sounds like MTL is Dobson's preference. Lots of good prospects/young players there. And they have two consecutive mid-1st picks. |
