I'll state it again, unlike you and others, I will judge Briere on his actions, not assume that he will fail simply because he played for the Flyers at some point in the past. - jd250
Nobody is saying they will fail bc they are old flyers. Was Fletcher a Flyer? It is based on the fact we have watched this org for years continue to screw up the decisions and overvalue their own players. History can be a predictor and we all have seen what this organization has done and continues to do. |

Just odd to me how anyone can defend this organization at this time. |

Spot on - speaking of overused are we seeing TK w his annual end of season slump? 2 goals in the last 18(?) games. People were talking like he could hit 40 goals back in Dec and now he is sitting at 22. - Flyfly
I have to find the link, but I read an article with advanced and practical stats saying he needs a center to play with. Basically the article stated that Michkov played best with Couturier and Konecny produced best playing with Frost and Torts had it backwards for much of the season. Now Michkov is producing playing with Couturier and Frost has been traded. So Konecny is slumping trying to find offense playing with Scott Laughton.
If anyone remembers the article feel free to post the link.

He got fired because he was a bad GM. - Striiker
Agreed. Not trading JVR was just another poorly managed personnel decision. It just happened to be one of the last decisions he made.

Does make sense and I also wonder if he is playing through something. I’ll try and look for the article.

I just dont know that there was much interest in JVR. There was 1 rumoured deal that fell through I think for Cap reasons with DET. Other than that it was really quiet on the JVR rumour train

I just read an interview with DB in the Inqy. He basically said that they don’t expect to do anything before the deadline. He also said that it’s really hard to get a #1 center so they’ve decided to build their team differently; “So the reality is, you have to build it a little differently, and we’re going try to build it with some depth” |

This is nothing new really as he said that going back to when he was first hired; build depth. I am sure it will work out to be a successful plan. |

I’m sure we all hope this is just GMspeak. There will be a complete meltdown on this board of Briere does nothing. Obviously, unless the best offers for Laughton and Risto are low draft picks. But after the extreme overpay by Tampa yesterday, I can’t believe there’s not a desperate GM or two out there who won’t make a good offer. |

The themes will be they didn’t have any UFA so there was no need to make a deal just to make a deal. |

I'm scared to death they are really looking at the 2019 Blues as some sort of model for success. One lightning in a bottle season........smh.

In the sense that they gave up a young player in Necas for him yes, the flip side is CAR is looking to win now and Rantanen is an upgrade on Necas. If they win the cup, its a great move. If not they took a huge risk with no payoff

Even if so the Flyers still dont have the talent to mimic that. STL had a #1 C in RoR, they had a #2 C in Schenn, they had Tarasenko, Binnington, Pietrangelo, Kyrou, Schwartz, Thomas and Parayko.
Flyers right now got Michkov, TK, Tippett, Sanheim and York. Maybe you can add Drysdale to this list.
Binnington is a good goalie, might not be the elitest of goalies but he did help Canada win the 4 Nations. He is better than Ersson no doubt. Unfortunately Ersson still has a lot to prove. The Flyers dont have a #1 C. Im not even sure if Coots is good enough to be a #2 C.
At the end of the day you still need a #1 C to even attempt that to copy STL lightning in a bottle. It really doesnt change anything for us. At this point if you arent going to tank for a #1 C. You are going to need to take some risks. You will need to add an underperforming young player and hope you can fix them. Someone like Zegras, Cozens or Krebs or find a Devon Toews like move where someone moves a guy because of cap contraints.

I like the boldness of CAR. For them not to ride out and keep for the playoff run would be a mistake, IMO. If CAR trades Rantenan they have no shot at getting out of the East.
The flip side is the Flyers have no shot at competing in the East as constructed and the remodeling of the roster is gong rather slowly. At least we will have answers shortly if they understand the shortcomings of the team are more then Frost and Farabee. |

Here's my issue with the Flyers right now. If they get more consistent goaltending as constructed they have a good shot at getting in as a wildcard next season. The issue is they have no shot at getting out of the East. LA won the Cup as an #8 seed. That roster was loaded with talent that underachieved during the regular season. The Flyers roster is the "little engine that could". There is just not enough on the roster or in the pipeline to close the gap in the East.
As mentioned by others before, moving Laughton and Risto has to be done, but is not enough. Going to have to upgrade which means the organization has to be willing to move more players off the roster to get more talent. Frost and Farabee should only be the start of moving players 25 or under out of the organization, not the end. The Flyers have decent talent in that age range, outside of Michkov no elite talent. Cannot be afraid to move some of those pieces to get a player who you hope will develop into an elite player. Other teams have been able to pull it off. |
