No he did not. All they would have got back was 4th/5th rd pick. Fans were so outraged over it. - Striiker
Know one was upset because we realized trades were hard. If Briere does nothing I want him removed. Trading Laughton is the minimum. Clocks ticking Danny.

This would be even worse than if Briere did nothing at the deadline. GMs should never, ever make moves to satisfy PR. GMs should formulate a plan and execute the plan, inspecting and adapting the plan for its continued viability along the way. I'll state it again, having 7 picks in a weaker draft is not a successful plan if the team is not picking in the top 5 to get at least 1 player with elite potential. Keeping this team together for the remainder of the season gets the Flyers around 10-12, and that is not going to get it done! - jd250

Fletcher was well liked by corporate because he was a company man and all decisions were made by committee. However getting booed at the season ticket town hall right after the deadline was what got him fired. Doesn’t matter the return. Season ticket holders are not the most knowledgeable. JVR was a name they knew and many publications had him in their trade lists. The Flyers through ASF and other outlets tried to make the argument he wasn’t going to get much but that didn’t land. Fans were still pissed. |

The JVR nom trade was what did Fletcher in. You can’t waste getting assets bc “trades are hard.”
It was 100% the catalyst to him bing let go. Season ticket holders booed the man bc he sat on his hands.
If DB does sits on his hands it will not be a good look.

Laughton and Ristolainen for Easton Cowen, a 2025 2nd, and a 2026 1st. Flyers retain 2 million on Risto.
Git er dun. - MBFlyerfan
Do they want to retain for that long ? Other than that….that would be a nice return. I get that without retention this return isn’t quite like this. |

I'll state it again, unlike you and others, I will judge Briere on his actions, not assume that he will fail simply because he played for the Flyers at some point in the past. |

The Flyers do not need yet another 2025 2nd round pick. If I am retaining this much on Risto, I want a 2026 1st and a 2026 2nd, and maybe more. |

You now want them to do what myself and others have been saying they should have done from the start of his tenure -- that is not wanting him to fail, that was the commen sense approach, acquire draft capital, finish in the bottom 5 of the league and acquire elite talent via the draft.
Last season at this time you were celebrating the fact the team was in a wild card slot. Anyone with two eyes could have seen the collapse that was coming, but you were screaming from the top of the mountain that torts was going to win the JA award hands down

To think he was fired because he didn’t get a 4th rd pick is funny. Each is their own.

Well, at least you called me sir.
Last year I really did believe Torts was coaching his butt off to have this team firmly in position to not only make the playoffs, but maybe do some damage also. Given everything that happened with Quitter and Hart, it was amazing the Flyers were in it at all. Then things fell apart. Walker was traded, which was the right thing, and then the benching of Couts and the overuse of Ersson were setbacks this team just couldn't overcome. Torts not showing up for post-games did not help either. In the end Torts didn't deserve the award and I stated as much late last year. But for the first 3/4s of the year, Torts and his staff did probably the best coaching job in the league. |

Cutter situation had nothing to do with the team in any way. He was never here or part of said team.
Erssson was not overused. Just an excuse as he just isn’t that good. Do you think he is being overused again this year? |

You keep saying it’s a weak draft….its really not. There isn’t that super star skill at the top but most scouts have 1rst rnd grades on guys in to the middle of the 2nd rnd….as well these are opinions….in 2017 the experts all said it was a 2 man draft….the guy taken 4th is the best defenceman on the planet with comparisons to Bobby Orr. |

Honest question: You are the eternal optimist here. I used to be that way but have since become very cynical towards the Flyers FO. What would you consider a successful TDL vs one that would lead you to question Briere?
For me, Laughton and Risto must go. I’d also like to see an acquisition of a young center or defenseman for the future but I think that is a pipe dream for the trade deadline (that’s more of an off-season move)

Nobody is arguing that is the sole reason why he was fired. It certainly was part of it and the fans turned against him and the organization.
As CF not being good - nobody is going to argue that except for jd250. |

Spot on - speaking of overused are we seeing TK w his annual end of season slump? 2 goals in the last 18(?) games. People were talking like he could hit 40 goals back in Dec and now he is sitting at 22.

I’d be shocked if they even sniffed close to 40 at any point in their career. |
