Another team likely out of the Laughton Sweepstakes. 5 or 6 teams left. Might be time to make a decision. Id like to see a deal done before Friday

Would be awful if Laughton stays and it comes out the Jets offered a 1st, but the team "wanted to do right" by him. The old implied NTC, seems like a winning strategy. Time is ticking, this is definitely a sellers market. Can't pull a Fletcher.

Tampa has no issue letting franchise icon Stamkos leave. Meanwhile the Flyers GM can’t sleep at night because he wants to keep Laughton.

Honestly the rumored 2nd good enough imo. Not the end of the world if the hold but the market clearly shows we should be able to get a really good return.

Briere will move him. It’s too much of a PR nightmare if they don’t.

Yeah, but Stamkos isn't the leader that The Room™ is. I bet Stamkos never stayed after to shoot pucks so a middling bottom 6 forward could get tip practice. That is how you win cups. What has Stamkos ever won with his team? Nothing. Culture® is something that is earned from long years of toiling in the basement. What does Stamkos know about Culture®?

Quite the arrms race in the Atlantic. FLA and TB went pretty big. I am curious what the Leafs end up doing. No guarantee Tavares and/or Marner returns next season.

Laughton and Ristolainen for Easton Cowen, a 2025 2nd, and a 2026 1st. Flyers retain 2 million on Risto.

Git er dun.

[Ken Campbell]- If you ever needed any more evidence of how crazy the trade deadline is and how teams tend to lose their minds, there is currently a bidding war going on for Scott Laughton.

Hope this is true

They can only sell so much crap. They can’t sell this one. Laughton despite their best attempts isn’t a fan favorite. Nobody cares about this guy with enough fans being tired of seeing him. Throw in his last super stunt and people will be mad if he isn’t gone.

Sitting out a trade deadline while 7th place in the division with these prices puts a giant target on Briere and Jones. Hell I wouldn’t even doubt if Tortorella would distance himself from that kind of debacle. I think Briere’s overriding goal is to keep his job as long as possible. Not trading Laughton hurts that in a big way.

I don’t even think he cares about Laughton judging by his press conference about the deadline.

Bet. Lmao. He’s not only NOT getting traded but don’t be shocked when they announce an extension.

They have set the groundwork through their cronies in the local media of how valuable he is the last few days to soften the not trade part AND his value to the team.

Extension written all over it. This lost sad team has no clue what they are doing. But keeping status quo is great. Announce extension and push for playoffs and continue the culture push.

Seen this movie a 100 times. Watch. Extension announced before Thursday’s game

Edit: can’t resign just yet but you get the point I think

I mean this as no offense at all but….
1) all they do is push crap. For decades.
2) they don’t care about what a few fans want. They care about profits. They have a narrative they can sell. They are selling it now with laughts. He’s so valuable gotta be blown away to trade. Culture. Locker room. Etc etc etc. they are telling you they aren’t trading him.

Everything you said is true except not caring what the fans want. The online variety have zero input but hockey runs on season ticket sales. Fletcher got fired specifically because of the fans outrage for not trading JVR. So far the season ticket holders have bought Jones and Briere’s crap but they can’t sell this. Every season ticket holder right now is engaged with the deadline. To not deliver is a slap in the face. They got away with it last year because they were in a playoff spot at the time. Briere has to do something. You might be right that they still won’t care but it would be a huge misstep.

I hate to say it but until I see some trades from Briere at the deadline, I agree with you. I am very afraid Briere is not going to take what he can get but will hold out and not trade them if he does not get his price. Laughton will never be valued higher than right now, with another year on his contract at a very cheap price with the cap going up. Risto I can see holding on to him for at least another year because his play and cap hit are very good right now. If the Flyers are not picking in the top 5 of this draft, what's the point? Depth? Who cares if they still have no 1C and 1D.

No he did not. All they would have got back was 4th/5th rd pick. Fans were so outraged over it.

This would be even worse than if Briere did nothing at the deadline. GMs should never, ever make moves to satisfy PR. GMs should formulate a plan and execute the plan, inspecting and adapting the plan for its continued viability along the way. I'll state it again, having 7 picks in a weaker draft is not a successful plan if the team is not picking in the top 5 to get at least 1 player with elite potential. Keeping this team together for the remainder of the season gets the Flyers around 10-12, and that is not going to get it done!
