I think they will waste the money somewhere else perhaps on defense. Chychrun or Ekblad. Need that size on defense.
- psuhockey

Chychrun finally getting a taste of winning. Unless he just wants the most money doubt he has the Flyers on his radar. Ekblad 100% can see that happening. He has won. Now get that big fat retirement contract.

I do love how the brain trust is so so hesitant to move on from culture guys and asking the moon, but will settle for below average returns for other players with skill.

Very entertaining. Almost a parody of themselves.

Yep, yet another 7 year deal that will age badly during the final years when those magic 2025 draft picks are just making it to the NHL.

Friedman states that the bar is set SO HIGH TO DISCOURAGE TEAMS FROM CALLING!!

why is this so hard to understand -- they do not want to move The Room™ but are making it look like they are -- Friedman also states in that article that the culture® is very important to danny boy

- corduroy

1) I mispoke, the source I was taking about was actually Serravelli
2) Friedman never said they set the price high to discourage. That was just the BleacherReport
3) Friedman has speculated that Laughton would be moved. Heres a synopsis from his Podcast Monday

On Monday’s episode of “32 Thoughts”, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman connected some dots between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Washington Capitals. When talking about what the first-place Capitals could do in the next handful of days, considering that no one really expected them to be as good as they are and the buckets of cap space they have thanks to both Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie being on LTIR, a Flyers player who is currently in a whole bunch of trade rumors came up.

“Yeah, like a third liner — a Scott Laughton type. I could see that but I would be very, very careful messing with what they have,” Friedman said.

And this is not the only Laughton-to-Capitals linkage we have seen recently. Back on Feb. 14, Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, in an article playing deadline matchmaker and coming up with specific trades that could be made, conjured up a trade that would be sending Laughton to Washington for its 2026 first-round pick.

4) Your analogy is flat out wrong. There are 3 parties in your scenario, There are only 2 here. The Flyers and the team acquiring laughton. Briere is the one that wants to move laughton. No one is forcing him to do so. Nobody is telling Danny he has to trade Laughton

I can picture Briere and Jones all smiles while they introduce him and Bennet at the press conference.

Hilf will be saying the Flyers are back.

Briere has already said it will take massive overpay or something to that effect.

No team is going to do that. Briere has already refused what he said were fair offers.

It doesnt matter what he says. It matter what he does. GMs bluff all the time. He;s trying to get a better offer. If he gets the sense he wont get better than a 2nd, He will probably take it. Its hilarious watching you guys spin your wheels. Danny lies, except when he talks about his players apparently. No GM in the history of the NHL uptalks their assets and tries to leverage the fact they dont have to move them for a better return

The reality is the Flyers do not have room on the team for Laughton. Flyers will not be going into next season with Laughton, Cates, Couturier and Poehling as their 4 Cs. I can guarantee that. They will 100% add someone whether it be Trade, FA or Luchenko

Id prefer a Zegras trade over Bennett and Im not a huge fan of Zegras as a #1. Adding Bennett would be awful and Im hearing the price is quite high like 8+ mill for Bennett

Correct and so far as of right now he has shown no inclination to move him. Blah blah blah about a better offer. His value is pretty much set. It will not change in the next week barring very unforeseen circumstances. He will not take a 2nd. they value him too much. If he does once again they missed the boat on selling high.

Laughton is a winger at this stage. He is not very good as a center. They will add Tanov as he a shot blocking center machine.

It’s even more hilarious watching you defend this organization trying to rationalize their though process.

Sure and when he does get moved you will be one of the first to find some way to criticize the deal and ignore the fact you were wrong

Depends on what he is moved for will determine my response.

When he isn't dealt you will defend it and put a flyers positive spin on it. Can count on that like my morning dump.

I would prefer Zegras as well. He is only 23 and at least has 2 60 point seasons under his belt. Bennett has never scored 50 points and will be 30 at the start of his deal.

How is your opinion fact?

Most in the hockey world would say Sanheim is our best dman, by far.

2:49 mark - they are in the mindset of chasing down a playoff spot. How can you not love Coach Torts. What a salesman.

Surprisingly you missed the point of my post -- so let me spell it out for you

he appears to have set the asking price so high to discourage teams from calling.

- corduroy

He admitted to doing this last year..he said teams are calling, but he has set the bar so high he would need to be blown away by an offer to move him.

Not really what I want to see a gm doing.

Said the flyers way is a failure. Now give me a this is a new era.

Where have the flyers finished the last 3 years? How would you define it?

Flyers apologists. Have to love them.

If they had just really committed to a proper rebuild 4 years ago, we would be almost there now. Maybe not, because of the Torts factor, but they would be further ahead than how and where they currently sit.

is the team any closer to competing for a Cup?

What is the timetable to get there?

This team has been spinning in circles since about 2002

What a load oF BS! You have no idea what direction this management group is taking the Flyers, none of us do. Its only their second season at the helm and they had quite a mess to cleanup from the Fletcher and Hextall era's before them. You just presume its going to fail because that is what fits your pittiful narrative.
- jd250

Meanwhile, Anaheim, SJS and Chicago are clear as day, and the fans know the directions the teams are going. Meanwhile in Flyer land...the fans have no idea what management is doing, and I don't they(management) do either. I think they are flying by the seat of their pants, and hoping things turn out good.

I don't have a lot of faith in the team right now.

Once again cap’n coots gets zero PP time. How, with this poopty center lineup, can they not put him out there on the PP?

What the Flyers are doing is clear as day as well. We just arent sure its going to work. They are rebuilding without tanking. They believe that building a contender is better by surrounding young talent with solid players, not just patchwork players without any skin in the game, just waiting to find a new destination. They believe there is more benefit to having guys around that will be around long term to help the young players and take some of the pressure off them. People suggest why many rebuilds fail is because the young players dont have the support and fail to leave the rebuild stage. Buffalo seems to be an example of that. A lot of the teams that succeed with tanking get lucky and suck long enough to get a generational player like Crosby, Mackinnon or McDavid.

Unfortunately I dont have a magic Crystal ball.

Tired argument, Buffalo is an exception to the rule. It has been proven time and again that this method does work. I don't want a complete tank. I just don't want these meaningless games like tonights game costing them a chance at a real need in a #1C.

Noone has any idea what direction we are heading in..are we buying next week or selling? The team winning a couple of games leading up to the tdl is a nightmare situation, as I am sure Torts is pushing hard to go for the playoffs. The team should have a clear and direct vision...a true plan, not just hoping guys get hot at the right time. They didn't sell off guys last year..guys like Hathaway, Seeler, Phoeling, TK, Laughton...should all have been moved for picks/ young players. The team is not a good team, and the best way to correct the path of the team is for them to lose and get over the fact that the playoffs are not happening. Stay focused and do what needs to be done. But have a goddamn plan....they don't appear to have one, and they are hoping for things to get better with the same group of failures that hasn't made the playoffs in almost half a decade now.
