With the cap going up significantly, a top 4 Dman is probably going to get between 7-8 million/yr on a long-term contract. That will be the cost for York, a bridge in the neighborhood around 5-6 million. We'll see what Briere does. If you think that is sticker shock, just wait till the Cates extension for a forward who has never scored 40 points in a season. We'll see if Briere can start making tough decisions with not re signing every RFA on his team. Sorry, Frost decision was not that hard, the HC made it easy for him.

I would either be moving Sanheim or York. I don't want both on long term deals as I don't think either are number 1 dmen. Just my thought, I wouldn't be tying up big money and term on guys I am not sure are the difference makers that are needed yet.

Risto really upped his trade value yesterday.

I think you all need to just admit one simple fact. Risto is the Flyer's best defenseman!

he isn't and if he was so what? that doesn't have the effect you think it does.

Someone has to be the best at their position. Does that make you an all star level player?

I don't see Sanheim getting better. He'll soon be 29, pretty sure this is his ceiling, which is very good. I believe a #3 or #4 Dman on a true Cup contender. I do view York in that same general area with the caveat he is younger. So does it make sense to lock up long-term the second pair? These are the tough choices Briere needs to make on team building. I agree I would prefer both not signed long-term because either one could be used in a trade to improve the team.
