Yes I agree. This deadline should be the start of a big change on the team. Like I said, if Briere does not be aggressive I will have big concerns. - jd250

I don't think it is an let me tell you why. You still need players to play the games while the team is rebuilding, and you do want to have good veteran players around the younger prospects to teach them how to be good pros. None of these players have stopped younger players from entering the lineup if they are ready. Hathaway and Poehling for example are solid bottom 6 forwards. They are not going to block a player like Luchanko who the Flyers want to see in the top 6. Johnsson is a solid pro and the 8th defenseman on this team. Before recent injuries to the Flyers defense, he didn't play for months. Seeler is another solid pro that can play in the bottom pair and will not block any player when they are ready.
The fact is, the Flyers really didn't have much a prospect pool when Briere took over and besides Andrae there really wasn't anyone ready to take a spot on the NHL roster. Andrae is here now and I don't expect he will be returned to the Phantoms again. Grans and Ginning are developing but I don't think either are ready to supplant a veteran on this team yet. No forwards really to speak of from the Phantoms puounding at the door. The cupboards were pretty bare when Briere took this thing over.
I am encouraged that Risto sat out the 4 nations because that tell me the Flyers want to trade him this deadline and do not want to risk another injury. Laughton will also be dealt, and I suspect Deslauriers will be dealt for a 7th round pick or something. This is what the Flyers must do to maximize their chances in this draft. - jd250
A rebuilding team trades off it's UFA assetts. The Flyers should have traded TK (you will never convince me otherwise), Seeler, Phoeling, Hathaway, Johnson, Laughton over the last few trade deadlines, but they ALL remain on the team. Most of these players can be replaced by a minimum salaried UFA brought in for a year. The Flyers chose to resign all of them so far, and it is bad team management. They are blocking the young guys...what little the Flyers have in prospects still has no shot of making the team because they resigned everybody. Andrae should not have been sent down in Sept. but they had no choice, as they had limited cap, and NO roster spots.
The fact is, the Flyers would have had a stronger prospect pool if they did the right thing and draft the BPA, instead of always trying to out think everyone.

Anything is possible but where do you think you have a better chance of drafting elite talent Top 5 picks or picks 12-17?

Johnson has no value. He is here for depth, nothing more. He is making peanuts money wise. He is irrelevant to the rebuild. Laughton was not a UFA the past few deadlines and still is not an UFA. However, teams like players with some term so they are more than rentals, and thus they are willing to give up better assets. Therefore, Laughton, Deslauriers and Poehling all have 1 year left on their deals after this year for very little money. All are good candidates to be moved. Now that the cap space has increased, Risto is now a good possibility to be moved, and it was smart to wait on him since his value has never been higher. |

Interesting trade thought, Laughton and one of the Flyers late 2025 1st round picks to Winnipeg for Brayden Yager and a 2nd round pick in 2026. |

I would do that deal in a second. I'm not sure if Pittsburgh would be a buyer at this point.

OK..I agree Johnson has no value. It would be aboput clearing the contract, the cap...yes..Andrae could have slipped in if Johnson wasn't signed. I would rather have a young Andrae in the lineup than Johnson.
What does it matter if he is ufa or not? The rumor is that Briere was offered at least a first for Laughton, but he turned it down, as "the room" is too important to the team.
You get offered a first for Laughton, you grab it and run. UFA has nothing to do with it. Some teams like Calgary would take on guys with term due to their issues getting players resigned.
We could already have extra prospects in the system if they traded their own players away.
I still can't see Risto being traded without retention. |

They didn't have a point with Luchenko at all. To complain about a National Teams usage of a prospect is stupid. Luchenko was on the team in a 4th line role. That is the position he was filling on the team. He was not on the team to play top 9 minutes, and everyone on the team had a role.
He was used as the coach wanted to use him. |

He was a terrible coach, if canada doesn't even play for a medal is ridiculous
Canada makes the best hockey players in the world no reason they shouldn't get a medal. |

Bad coach or not, 2nd year straight they didn't qualify for medals.
Does Luchenko playing more mean they would have made the medal rounds?
NO...Luchenko is a nice skater, has hands of stone, and is being pushed down our throats as a steal and a future centre piece. I don't see it. I see 3c as his ceiling on a true contender.

Any thoughts on having Johnson in the lineup over Grans while Zamula is on the injured list. Seems like an opportune time to get him another look to see if he has progressed from his first stint.
You really believe one Nicolas Deslauriers has value and will return a draft pick? |

LOL..yeah during the summer for Rutger McGroarty, who was refusing to sign with Winnipeg, everyone knew it, but they actually got a better player back than they sent out. Wonder why the Gauthier situation was viewed so differently by Flyers management, as they appear to have gotten pennies on the dollar for a top 5 player |
