Kuzmenko and Pelletier will not play tonight. Only the Flyers can trade for players and not get them out of Canada to player for a multitude of reasons. I'm fine with it. I am firmly in securing the highest draft pick possible. Getting to pick 4th overall is still very much in play. Take your time boys, no rush see you after the 4 Nations Tournament. Just stay in Toronto a few more days, it is a fine city to hang out and relax. |

Agreed on that, even if it was a late round pick. - MBFlyerfan
Especially if they do win the cup. Then you lost with nothing else to show for it. |

Abols, Gaucher, ND, and Richard. That is how you draft and develop. |

You can say they are protecting the draft picks from having to play for this train wreck.
I'm sure their position is that they haven't "earned it".

I have a feeling Torts is going to play out the last year of his contract upstairs as special assistant (co-GM) to Briere. And he will hand select Brad Shaw as next coach. - TobyFlenderson
I think Tortorella is gone after this year but I don’t think it’s going to be Shaw. He’s turning 61. It’s going to be someone they can sell to the season ticket holders because they will have nothing else to sell next season and will likely be bad again.
I don’t think Briere and Jones are particularly good at their jobs but they at least understands how to market to the fanbase. |

Solution was to trade expiring contracts not extend them. Solution was to sign Cutter and let him burn a year of his ELC.
Solution was not to try to make the playoffs last year -- they should have been playing kids that the team ACTUALLY DRAFTED and then draft in the top 5 again - not 12th
I have given plenty of ways to solve the problem but you and the other derps refuse to listen and want to toe the company line - corduroy
So you let alone kid before he steps on the ice tell your organization what to do, thank goodness you are not in charge |

Well said... however, I still see Torts coaching next year but I hope you are right. The fear is that Torts will have a large say when it comes to the next coach. I feel like the org has really hitched their wagon to Torts and I am not sure that is the smart thing to do.
If I were betting they are just waiting for Torts Jr to get out of Pitt.

Sullivan’s a very good coach but I am not sure he would come to Philly. There are still a lot of question marks on the roster and he will have his pick of teams. |

This is why I have questions about this corporate structure Hilf created. Does the new HC get vested the same authority as the HC who is currently employed? If that's the case, then this job gets pretty attractive. You only have to report to the Governor, who is Hilf and you have equal authority as the GM. Also, does the former HC retain authority if moved into a management position? Could be as simple as a consultant as Bob Murray. TBD. If I'm Briere I'm doing all I can to convince the Governor to make the next HC be under the GM and Torts at best to be the next Bob Murray. Hilf in his initial structure setup leads to a lot of questions when 1 of the 3 from the triumvirate gets moved out. |

Sullivan is a good coach line Q was in Chicago, its hard to win games when you have elite talent.

Never mind how well Torts developed Panarin, or Werenski in Columbus. It's complete nonsense to state Torts can't coach offense and shows a complete lack of understanding of the NHL game. - jd250

This did not age well
Out of offensive necessity -- and in defiance of his reputation -- Tortorella seems ready to let Michkov be Michkov, for the betterment of the Flyers.
"We are starving for the types of instinctive plays that he can make," said Tortorella, in his third year coaching in Philadelphia. "I'm not interested in turning him into a checker. We want to lay the foundation. It's going to take time. But are we going to beat him over the head with it? No."

It has definitely gotten to his head. Michkov is afraid to make any kind of mistake right now.

So apparently the Calgary players still won’t be in the lineup tonight. A full week after the trade. Wth is going on here? When is the last time it took this much work to get visa paperwork sorted out like this? Meanwhile we have to field a roster that include dlo and gaucher. So mic for getting a loom at kuz before the tdl. At this rate, they might as well sit the rest of the season out. It’s just wild. |

Torts default is to fall back on defensive structure his entire career. In game 82 last season, he benched Frost and Brink during the game in a must win scenerio. It is not a surprise how Michkov has been handled this season. Really think John Cooper is worrying about Kucherov getting in front of the Dman in the defensive zone to block a point shot. Kyle Connor in WPG doing Lappy dives trying to block slap shots. Lavy benching Panarin for defensivie play. The illusion of Torts is that he adjusts to his players. Absolutely false, players must adapt to Torts because he is tough and just really cares. He has not had an even average PP in over decade of coaching, but somehow that is not his fault as HC. Somehow there is an illusion that his methods are still successful. I thought winning games was a barometer of success. Hey, at least the Flyers are now tied for second lowest regulation wins with 14. It is quite the narrative. |

Sullivan did great when Crosby and others were at their peak. Q was at his best when Toews and Kane were at their best.
What makes a good coach to me is someone who can keep their head above water when they do not have all that great talent. Currently Sullivan is doing just as well as Torts is even though Sullivan has the better talent.
