Again, it's a salary cap problem, and believe you me, the above isn't going to get it done. Probably not even close.
Philly HAS to get rid of a roster centerman, and salary in the trade. - Nh_kong
It would start with a strong Defensive piece like sanhiem to even consider taking on your trash salary. Couturier has very negative value at this point.

My Unrealistic (but fair) Trade offer
A third team would make this trade more realistic, but the cap situation works more or less for both teams with LTIR, and the contract limit is not exceeded.
To Toronto:
Elias Pettersson (C) – $9.6M AAV (with $2M retained by Vancouver, effective cap hit $7.6M for Toronto)
Filip Hronek (D) – $4.4M AAV
Vincent Desharnais (D) – $775K AAV
Total Incoming Cap Hit: $12.775M
To Vancouver:
Morgan Rielly (D) – $7.5M AAV
Ryan Reaves (RW) – $1.35M AAV
Connor Dewar (C) – $800K AAV
Jani Hakanpaa (D) – $1.5M AAV
Nicholas Robertson (LW) – $875K AAV
Pontus Holmberg (C) – $800K AAV
Fraser Minten (C) – $894K AAV
Easton Cowan (LW) – $870K AAV
2025 1st Round Pick
2025 2nd Round Pick
Total Outgoing Cap Hit: $14.619M
Why Each Team Does This Trade
For Toronto:
Elite Center Depth: Acquiring Elias Pettersson gives Toronto an unmatched 1-2 punch down the middle with Matthews and Pettersson.
Defensive Reinforcement: Filip Hronek bolsters the top pairing, while Vincent Desharnais adds affordable, physical depth to the blue line.
Stanley Cup Push: Toronto is all-in on its championship window, sacrificing futures to build a powerhouse lineup for immediate success.
For Vancouver:
Rebuild with Premium Assets: The 1st and 2nd round picks, along with high-potential prospects Fraser Minten and Easton Cowan, provide a strong foundation for the future.
Roster Flexibility: Morgan Rielly anchors the defense, while affordable forwards like Robertson and Holmberg add depth and scoring potential.
Cap Flexibility: Retaining $2M on Pettersson is manageable while gaining valuable assets and balancing the roster.
Toronto Maple Leafs Updated Roster
Matthew Knies Auston Matthews Mitch Marner
William Nylander Elias Pettersson Alexander Nylander
Max Pacioretty John Tavares Bobby McMann
Steven Lorentz David Kämpf Max Domi
Extras: Calle Järnkrok, Kyle Clifford
Filip Hronek Chris Tanev
Jake McCabe Simon Benoit
Oliver Ekman-Larsson Vincent Desharnais
Extra: Philippe Myers
Goalies
Starter A: Anthony Stolarz
Starter B: Joseph Woll
he issue with this trade proposal, in my opinion, is that Vancouver wouldn't need Rielly if they were committing to a rebuild. If they wanted to compete now, the young assets included in the deal wouldn’t provide immediate help.
However, if Vancouver chose this route, they could fully embrace a rebuild by trading Miller and flipping Rielly. That would net them even more future assets while they tank for a couple of years to reset.
Alternatively, they could choose to remain competitive. Young talent develops much faster today than it did 20 years ago. Robertson could break through this season or next, and Cowan could step up within the next year or two. Additionally, Vancouver has the cap space to bolster their roster and stay competitive while incorporating young talent. - TroyTech
