Frondell signed ELC

Also read today that Kantserov signed or should i say is signing his, with the intent to come to Chicago after his KHL season this year. (which must be fake news as russians don't come over, except for the ones that do)

Danny made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

The kids are coming and they're coming fast...

Frondell, Kantserov, Moore, Lardis, Savoie, Dach, Greene should all be fighting for open roster spots in the spring once Dckinson, Lafferty, and maybe Mikheyev and Foligno find new homes on contenders.

If there’s a vet to keep from this group, I’d keep the Russian.

I don't think Lafferty is going anywhere. And Mikheyev plays well defensively.

Agreed and those are the vets to keep. Especially if the other kid from Mother Russia comes over in the spring or whenever his season is over.

Agreed! But you argue with anyone suggesting trading draft picks or prospects.

And right now the Hawk’s defense and goaltender are in decent shape. They need to start building the forward ranks.

- paulr

So when do you trust your scouting staff?

Hawks defense is in good shape because they drafted well

Knight was a great trade.

So he drafted, Nazar, Bedard, Moore, Boisvert, Vanacker, Frondell, Nestrasil and West, all 1st round picks, that's not including 2nd and 3rd round picks.

So when i say the forwards are coming they are we just don't know which ones will be the studs of the group

No one saw Rinzel coming and now he looks like a guy you can build around.

I know you don't think a team can be built this way but why not? As Zawaski put it KD is frustratingly patient for a GM.

Chicago needs NHL ready or close to ready forwards not more draft picks.

And they will only have good ones if they develop them in house, because there are more than a few many suitors for them when their present team decides they want to launch one of them.

So far have ANY yiungster traded even youngster for youngster for youngster, has any of them walked in to a new team instantly flourished?

Most have a possible top 6 forward label, but actually are not top y6 ready.

And if you mean older close to ready, I don't see Jorden Kyrou, Sahne Pinto or even a newly arrived in Ottawa Cozens departure for equal value...you pay pay pay.

They CAN get the best player in a deal, but it doesn't mean it is any type impact.

The impact comes when the #3 overall, Greene and Moore grow to pros.

And on top of it we will have for now 2 1st round picks and 3 seconds next season, by the time we get to next year we will have more answers from the season played than questions.

The best example of this is Rinzels growth taking off and Korchinski s slower rate of it. This is the purpose of accumulating 1st round picks. KD has cast a wide net let's bring that net in before determining there's no fish in it to keep.

If you bothered to actually remember what those conversations were about - it was entirely about risk assessments at the time. I'm guessing since you wrote it twice that context never was overly relevant - so, whatever.

Same here- fits in well, is personable, doesn't need a translator (in the Panarin sense) -so is a pretty good guide as to the league for those just new to the league but from playing elsewhere.

He was really good, especially once LR was let go. 2nd only to Donato in Even Strength goals in those 56 games. Donato scored 17 at even strength, Mikheyev had 15, Bertuzzi 11, Nazar 10, Bedard 9. All those guys were double digit minus is the +/- but Mikheyev came out at +2 over that span. Really solid.

In case this hasn't been brought up here yet, key changes to the CBA: https://puckpedia.com/news/new-mou

The LTIR changes and no more third teams brokering deadline trades are pretty big.

Am OK with the West trade up but I think for 2026 it's time for refilling the D pipeline. Was thinking they could have taken some more d-men in the later rounds this draft.

Was being facetious that KFC always trades his 2nds for the CAR 1st (two year in a row now), so he could do it again in 2026. Don't think it will happen 3 yrs in a row.

Hurricane traded their 2026 first rounder, but have Dallas' firrst rounder in the Mikko Rantanen debacle.

I find this interesting

New contracts are now limited to a maximum of 6 years for a free agent signing and 7-years for signing a player who was on the roster at the last trade deadline.

Apparently, HB lifted my ban!

Reading a lot of the summaries of the new CBA, it seems that teams like FLA, TB and VGK will struggle in the next few years. They've made a lot of their moves using third team salary retention and it seems the new CBA is trying to push teams to build their teams instead of game the system in-season - especially the part about teams needing to ice a team that fits under the regular season cap.

I really like the 6 year limit on new FA signings. I'm sure there will be sign-and-trades, but I think it's better for the teams and players to have shorter contracts.

What does everyone have on the over/under for goals from the defensemen this year?

I've got Arty and Rinzel with around 10 each, and about 40 for a total.

Kinda strange: the Hawks play AT LOS ANGELES back to back games, two days apart (Dec 4, 6). Not sure I remember seeing that before.

Schedule seemed OK overall. Last year CHI had three long, early, West Coast trips and with all the new signings, they had really no chance to get going. At least this year they have almost a month before going on the Northwest trip.

Disappointed we wont get to see Frondell in training camp, but I guess it is best he gets the full SEL season to develop.

To me, that raises the huge question of Bedard linemates for this year. The press keep trying to put Donato there, but I dont recall much chemistry between the two. My guess is Burakovsky will get the first crack. With a rotation of Moore/Dach/Lardis on the opposite wing to see what works.

If it's not Donato (and I don't think it will be) I think it's Burakovsky and TT at least to start the year. Having a big, fast, skilled guy who's been in the NHL to pair with those two I think will be a huge upgrade.

I think Mikheyev and Donato with Nazar would be a great line and tough to play against.

That dumps Bertuzzi to the third with D!ckinson (as long as he's still on the team ) and a kid (Moore/Slaggert?).

I Foligno sticks on the 4th line this year with something like Reichel and Greene.

Maybe if they could do Reichel for Rakell without adding too much, Rakell could play 2C and Nazar could move to 1RW for this year.
