Did you watch any Rockford games last year? Who of the incoming guys are the "Nancys"?

The cap issue is why Hossa came here instead of staying in Detroit, though.

Why? Cause they’re not face punchers or big hitters? In the limited mins I watched Greene or Moore, there was nothing about them that said they were allergic to the middle of the ice or boards.

Plus, why are you only limiting what’s in the prospect pool to RFD? If Dach’s healthy and plays up this year would hardly call him a Nancy.

Have you watched any of these guys play? I guess the real question is how are you defining Nancys/Marys?

Greene, Misiak and Thompson are tough to play against.

All I've seen of Lardis is really his goal scoring (which the Hawks also need).

I count my lucky stars for that, much as I hate the the whole salary cap concept.

Totally agree. Always thought that while I was at UIUC. Can't remember did UIC lose their team?

Barkov is kind of a quiet star.

Does all the little things. Others on that team get the headlines; Tkatuck, Bennett, Rheinhardt, Marchand, etc.

But Barkov is the glue. In that way, very similar to Hossa. Others got the headlines on those Hawks team, but Hossa was the glue.

Just imagine if the cap did back then (like it was supposed to when they signed Toews and Kane) like it did this year.

Cap really screwed out of at least one if not a couple more cups.

- vabeachbear

You could look at it as we got a couple more cups because Kane and Toews were willing to sign bridge deals which stars no longer do.

It took Kris Letang 5 years to put up any kind of stats and that was with very good teams. All he had to do to get a point was give the puck to Crosby or Malkin.

I think this will interest most every Hawk's fan. An article on if rebuilds work with loads of data. ....

Yep and D-men can take a bit longer, which is why I'm glad the focus of the rebuild was there first. Really can't write off a player who primarily turned pro directly into the NHL as a teenager on D.

The competition for spots on the back end is really healthy too. It will continue to motivate them to earn playing time or powerplay opportunities.

EDM, Allan, Korchinski, Levshunov, Rinzel - You can debate who will will play or not, but those guys are still all waiver exempt right now, so none of them are guaranteed a spot or to keep a spot if they don't perform or if someone absolutely just outshines them.

Nice to see someone do some thoughtful analysis. Seems like the conclusion is rebuilds take time but are generally very successful. Very few cups have gone to teams that have skipped rebuilds. Kind of makes sense, there are no shortcuts typically, unless you get really lucky or just have a situation that you can leverage and managed to do it well.

Some golfer thought it was a wise idea to fight ex NHLer Nick Tarnasky. Tarnasky yelling BANG every time he punches the guy’s face is priceless.

That's just wrong, but funny

Well opinions are like bumholes.....

I was wrong about Boqvist i remember him coming up and thinking i thought he could skate and kind of cringed seeing him in the bigs

It's funny to, we differ on Leddy and Murphy, Ian Mitchell if i recall was your guy.

I know you got a mancrush on Kaiser he's solid, but i think there is more upside to Korchinski, time will tell

- BetweenTheDots

Kaiser is a guy you win with. He also is better than EDM, KK and Allan rn. Skates better than all of them, too. He's a bulldog.

When KK plays to his scouting report, I will give him a chance. RN, he is not that player. I would trade him ASAP before he loses more value.

UIC made the decision to drop its D1 hockey program to put its resources into BBall. That was a long time ago, tho.

Thanks, Elbows. I remember watching UIC games late at night with my Pops. They'd play like Ferris State, Miami of Ohio, etc.

Given the state of UIC basketball, they should have gone hockey.

The only thing that is kinda questionable is that some teams are still technically trying to win during some of these "rebuild windows". Stan brought in Jones, McCabe, T. Johnson, etc, and traded 1st rounders when he should have been building the whole thing back up.

Yeah, I still think that whole thing reeks of the Hawks trying to divert fans attention from the approaching PR poopstorm. Stan announces a rebuild the season before then tries to push all his chips in. Something’s more than rotten in Denmark.

They set it up like that as the "criteria" of a rebuild even though it was just poor management or luck that they ended up like that. Hawks weren't trying to rebuild prior to the cups, they were trying to put as cheap a winning product on the ice as they could, so it just looked like a rebuild. Smith and Tallon had issues building a proper team for a while

What's wrong with Ferris State? That's where our head coach (and I) went to college! Plus, we played for the championship in 2012!

Totally agree and was going to post something similar. Other than Seabrook Smith’s other 1st round picks were busts.

Sounds like a similar approach to what KFC is currently doing (boom or bust) landed hits with Keith and Byfuglien.

Pulford had one final spin at the GM wheel and landed Bolland and Bickell in 2004. Can’t recall if Brouwer was that draft or 2003.

Tallon chose correctly in 2006 and again in 2007 but about the only other picks he made that did anything were Hammer and Kruger. The rest is history but agree I think this was more luck than some grand plan.

The only thing well orchestrated by the Wirtz in charge at that time was the effort expended on the level of difficulty passed down to the fan in terms of accessing the on ice product. Who knew that televising home games could actually promote your team and sport?
