It took him 87 years to get out of the first round with Toronto.

Hahaha, that's really not fair, they kind of stopped accumulating picks and signed Tavares to that terrible contract. Depth is what did the Leafs in.

Gotta say it's gonna get interesting in Chicago after this season. If they sign Marner this year i don't think they'll make the playoffs but this team will be pretty fricking entertaining

Sure I’d take Marner in a short term deal, however he’s not signing with the Hawks, hope I’m wrong.

I don't think that gets it done. He has to get enough to cover if he gets hurt and ends his career. Over $50M at least.

It's crazy how good our prospect pool looks even without Bedard and Nazar

It's too bad Reichel isn't working out but it's really nice we have young players who are going to push him out.

Just thinking about this past week still can't believe the Islanders traded Dobson and the Sabres traded Peterka.

I haven't watched a minute of Frondell live at all. Just watched some highlights.

I've seen a few places mention his skating isn't great, while others (even Wiz) mention he has such a powerful stride, and moves well.

So which is it? Good/bad/average/great skater?

- captainserious

Frondell’s skating is the reason he is able to be such a good defensive player and the reason his offensive style of physical contact with balance are so good.
He isn’t a strong quick burst guy in his stickhandles / possession in crowds. You won’t see plays where he dekes a trio of defenders and maintains possessions with his feet.
He’s really good laterally one on one, and his body rubs are what help him excel against multiple attackers.
This kid looks like a first line player; the kind you want out there making contact.
He has a strong stride b/c he can meet contact and beat it.
Everybody was praising his quick shot, and that is deserved. The thing about his game is he is smart and positional strong, and gets to the areas he needs to be, and makes a difference. He is in bio way a slug. How could he be when every team he has been on ask him to play back and cover against the other teams best line, knowing he will be pack in the offensive zone to be an option.

So, does Howard's contract demand make him a problem child? Even if he becomes a free agent, will anyone be able to sign him? Don't you need to prove yourself first before asking for Matthew's money? Maybe he needs a different agent.
- bjphawkfan

The article I read said Tampa had teams he wants to sign with, but they weren't going to eet the Lightning price.
All I know is Frankie Nazar is his good friend.

Hawks offered little, cause they know if he goes back to MSU they can get him for nothing this time next year. Howard wants to play with Nazar, so he wasn't agreeing to a contract with the other teams.

I'd offer them one of our 3 2nds next year, not ours, but the one in the middle. They get the pick in next years draft wihich is deeper and has more talent than 2027.

- vabeachbear

Pretty sure we are trading all 3 of the 2nd rounders next year for Carolina's 1st.

I still think TB is holding out for a similar player, for now. If this goes on for a few more months, maybe a draft pick will do it.

Just thinking about this past week still can't believe the Islanders traded Dobson and the Sabres traded Peterka.
- BetweenTheDots

If you've paid attention to the Sabres over the last few years, they don't spend to the cap often (if ever). The closest they've been to the cap in the last 10 years was 16-17 when they were $1.6M away from it. They are normally about $6-8M from the cap and have been as high as #18.6M from the cap in 22-23.

They've got $4.4M of Skinner dead cap space they get to use this year, so they are likely trying to ice a roster that is "OK" but still far under the cap. If they ever make the PO's I can only imagine ownership will double down on the theory and try to squeeze even closer to the cap floor. I read rumblings that Peterka wanted out, but obviously nothing confirmed.

The Islanders are an interesting case. They just signed Romanov to a decent deal, so I guess they hold him in higher regard. Maybe Dobson wanted out? They seem to be going through a sort of rebuild, so maybe they wanted to use their best trade chip to gain assets.

OFFSEASON DECISIONS

LW Marcel, Marcel Rights Expired
C Stjernborg, Victor Rights Expired
C Pharand, Alex Rights Expired
RW Oscarson, Milton Rights Expired

-----------------------------------------

LW Luypen, Jalen RFA 6/30/2025
C Saarela, Antti RFA - Not Returning - Signed - FIN - Lukko
RW Kurashev, Phiipp RFA-ARB 6/30/2025
RW Raty, Aku RFA-ARB - Not Returning - Signed - FIN - Karpat
D Kaiser, Wyatt RFA 6/30/2025
D Crevier, Louis RFA 6/30/2025
D Soderstrom, Victor RFA-ARB 6/30/2025
G Soderblom, Arvid RFA-ARB 6/30/2025

RFA - Kaiser, Crevier, and Soderblom should get RFA Qualifying Offers. Think Soderstrom needs an offer to keep his rights. No idea about Kurashev, Raty, and Luypen. Saarela went back to Europe so probably gone.

LW Athanasiou, Andreas UFA 7/1/2025
LW Donato, Ryan UFA 7/1/2025
LW Sanford, Zach UFA 7/1/2025
LW Seney, Brett UFA 7/1/2025
C Guttman, Cole UFA 7/1/2025

UFA - Donato seems like the only potential re-signing. Maybe Seney for Rockford. Figure Guttman will look elsewhere for an opportunity.

LW James, Dominic Rights Expiring 8/15/2025
D Kelley, Connor Rights Expiring 8/15/2025

Signing Rights Expiring - James looking elsewhere, not sure if CHI stll interested. Might be no room for Kelley unless on an AHL contract. G Basse already signed in the ECHL for next year.

C - Ilya Safonov - Not coming over from Russia - Re-signed AK Bars Kazan

--------------------------------------------

As Chunk mentioned, rights expired on 4 players. 2 RFAs (Raty, Saarela) signed in Finland. Safonov re-signed in Russia, looks like he won't have a spot in the future. With all the high draft picks, very little room for anyone else.

Yep yep and yep, i imagined this is how an aggressive rebuild would look like.

Anything after the 3rd round is like winning the lotto. Even the 3rd round,
some are concerned we won't have enough roster positions, the percentage of players that pan out say the opposite. Gonna enjoy my ice hog games this year.

Ice Hogs should be really interesting this year. My guess is that Nazar, Dach, and Slaggert will be the only young prospects starting in CHI so RFD will be loaded (and even more so in 26-27).

I think KFC will make a mid-level UFA forward signing to add a little depth to the big club.

Crevier is not waivers exempt any more so he could be #7 in CHI, probably del Mastro and Allan back to the AHL to start.

Duncan Keith had been on the Oilers player development staff. If he still is, they can be player development rivals.
