At the end of year pressers, KD said that they "hope" he'll be able to compete in camp. That's as clear as they can be at this point after about 9 months away from the game.

It's been so uncertain. We were told he should play last year, then setback but still should play before end of the season, now it's should be "hopefully" ready for camp.

The Hawks roster is really interesting to me right now because we are really only left with one "old" guy. Foligno is 37 (38 in the first month of the season).

We have Murphy at 32, which while getting up there isn't "too" old in NHL terms. We have

Bertuzzi 30
Burakovsky 30
Turbo 30
Richardinson 29
Mikheyev 30
Donato 29

I don't know if we count Brossoit as I think it's unclear if he ever plays. Everyone else is under 25 right now. This could be the final year with Foligno, we might see Murphy or maybe Richardinson on the move.

What a young roster. Exciting times.

It's going to be really interesting to see which kids make the final NHL roster next season. There's going to be a ton of competition. The good news is that the Hawks will be able to pick the best ones and the rest will have to keep proving they deserve a shot.

Agree with that. The competition will be high, which might mean a couple disgruntled guys who end up not getting the chance, but we should hopefully get the "best" players filtering up.

You would think they would say “He is on the ice doing drills. In the weight room. No set backs. No restrictions.” I can’t decide if no news is good news, bad news, or just SOP for this front office.

As far as I know, he's not been back on the ice yet. One of the talking head shows said that he was seen walking around one of the facilities toward the end of the year, but no one has seen him doing any training yet. I guess that isn't evidence that he's not, but it really doesn't sound like he'll be fully ready to go.

No reason to this year. Get a monster at #3, and see what might be available elsewhere.

I'm resigned to the fact that the Hawks aren't going to make any big moves to improve next season's roster, so anything that does happen will be a pleasant surprise.

Which players are you most excited about for next season? I'll triple down on Greene. I just like what I've seen of him.

Lardis is going to be the big wildcard.

Moore could end up being a complete PITA to play against. His assist on Veleno's goal in the last game of the year is exactly the kind of thing I'd love to see from him all year. Los the puck at center ice, didn't give up on it. Won it off the wall and slipped a nice pass to the streaking player. Weak goal given up b the goalie, but Moore's work was really solid.

Mopeville Steve reporting from LA where this should be called the Hidden NHL Draft. There is not 1 sign up anywhere except in front of Peacock Theatre which is inside LA live surrounded by Restaurants. Nobody I know here even knew the Draft was coming to LA. No Awards show. This can't go on.

Ran into Doug Maclean who told me he rarely even thinks about the Hawks because they are so far from contending. He repeated the rumor that Bedard's parents were very unhappy with Richardson and had something to do with the firing. He also said the Gerard Gallant called him after the Blashill signing and asked him how a .400 career coach could get hired without Gallant even getting an interview. Before you attack me for my anti-KD history. I am just reporting, no commentary.

Ran into McQueen's dad who said they think his son will go between 6 and 16. The dad is 6'2" and solid. Played in the W. He told me his wife was at one time the 2nd rated figure skater in Canada. Said his son is a 2 handicap, a championship badminton player, and has been great at every sport he has ever tried. I love my son but he ain't that.

Ran into 25 of the 50 Hagens here at the Courtyard pool. I found the dad and told him I loved the Spittin Chicklits he just did. All of the Hagens crew was not holding back on beers and Jack. They were having a great time.

There was a Hockey Inclusion event going on and I ran into Glenview's Al Montoya and PK Subban amongst others. I caught Subban and told him that I enjoyed his energy on TV and he looked me right in the eye and said, "Thanks. That means a lot."

I talked to the son of an OHL GM who watched over 40 games last season. He thinks the Hawks should draft Martone. Thinks Misa is not the strongest guy and is more like Bedard and needs someone to get him the puck. He said Lardis is incredibly skilled and will score but that he is not NHL strong at this point. Unprovoked he said that he thought Parekh is going to struggle in Calgary and the Canadian WJC team didn't sign him or Misa because their D is too suspect at this point.

Looking forward to the next couple of days.

- stevefrmglencoe

Thanks, Steve..... Did you see Hagens himself? If so how tall did he look and was he stout?

It would be a real shame if McQueen's back will be an issue throughout his career. Would be fantastic for the hockey world to see this kid reach his ceiling. When this guy gets lathered up he plays like Peter Forsberg.. Strong skilled bastard that refuses to be denied even an inch of ice.

Getting that vibe also but If burkosky and Donato signing and who we draft at 3 is all Davidson does then in my opinion it's another top 5 picknext year again in which Hawks are dangerously starting to develop a losing culture.

If I'm trading the #3 it will be for someone who is a proven performer in the NHL. McGroarty is basically Colton Dach at this point. Good kid, works hard, but wholly unproven. They have similar numbers in the AHL. Him plus the 11th doesn't really move the needle outside of adding another prospect.
- Chunk

Chunk, if you don't dig the proposal(s) that's cool but you don't have to say McGroarty is Dach to end the conversation. I mean it will but you know what I mean.

Guess nobody agrees or saw any Michigan Hockey or WJC's the last couple yrs and don't know McGroarty. ..... Frondell for McGroarty in the next 10 yrs Hawk top 6's and Mrtka????

It minimum very interesting to my eye.

Moore seems to have potential as a 2way guy, definitely like him. Rinzel has a chance to be really very impactful.

I'm keeping an eye on Aiden Thompson. 55 points in the NCAA last year (second in the NCAA only to his teammate who had 57) and basically scored the same goal total he had the previous 2 combined. I know he is a year or two older, but I don't know that matters if he can translate his playmaking/2-way game. He might not be a top line player, but maybe there is a guy with skill to slide around the middle 6 and create chances.

Spencer Knight - Chance to really make a name for himself as a a true #1 goalie in the NHL. He was a little bit inconsistent, but I'm glad to not be seeing Mrazek.

I know he is kind of established but I'm going to say Vlasic for his role on the team. I think he will get an "A" and potentially be the "C" the next year. I think he is the guy they need to take a real leadership role. I'm hoping for it.

Greene is my guy as well, I believe that he will make the team out of training camp, he has 3rd line center on a good team written all over him. Moore brings a ton of speed, however I’m not sure how much offense he’ll bring as he matures. Many have given up on Reichel, probably for good reason, I’m in the camp to see what he does with his first experienced NHL coach, nothing to lose as he only makes like $1.2M. Ha, there’s our third line, speed to burn.

Bill Zonnon 6'2", 190 lbs
Rouyn- Noranda Huskies

Constantly supporting teammates in all three zones, Zonnon jumps to the aid of defencemen on the back wall, gets the puck back, offers timely passing options, and moves the puck quickly in transition, orchestrating clever passing plays and entries in the offensive zone. When no play is open, he falls back on his forechecking ability. Defenders retrieving the puck better hurry their play when facing Zonnon. If they take too long to pass, the forward comes barreling down on them, pinning them to the wall, freeing the puck with his stick, and moving to an open teammate. -

How physical is Zannon, have you seen? ....... Saw so little of Zannon I hate to say anything on him but what I did see was really quick hands in close and he seemed to have power and athleticism behind everything he did. .

Enough to think plenty of organIzations are intrigued by his size tools combination.

He's doesn't go out of his way to hit, but he is damn effective at it. Steals a lot of pucks by rubbing guys out on the wall. Smart forechecker. another non-stop motor guy. Good hands and above average shot. Really good at getting and maintaining position around the net, and getting open in the slot.

I'm just saying that looking at both of their times in the AHL and NHL, they are basically the same guy at this point in time. Both are bigger bodies who play a physical game. Inconsistent and both have good potential, but it needs to be seen. I like Dach's body of work in RFD more than McGroarty's in the AHL.

I was really impressed with Thompson's game during the RFD playoff run. His past year at Denver was interesting. If I understand correct, they moved him from 2 or 3C to first line wing and told him to shoot the damn puck. He did and it served him well.

I have not seen Hagens, just his 50 relatives who have taken over the Courtyard.

I made a mistake yesterday, it was not McQueen's dad I spoke to, it was Wade Smith's father. Wade Smith is the one who was great at everything and his mother was the figure skater. These Canadians all look alike to me.

My last brush with Hockey greatness was Jonny Lazarus. I actually have known him for several years. He was on the Maccabi Open team when I was on the Masters team. I've always like his matter of fact broadcasting style especially in contrast with Colby Cohen's bombastic one. They have a solid morning hockey podcast.

McQueen's agents are here. They are with Thunder Creek. They said he is going to play in the W next season regardless of where he is drafted. He needs another full year to play and build his body.

Paul is going to accuse me of perjury but they know Korchinski very well. They don't rep him but apparently Saskatoon is the kind place where they all know each other, like Glencoe. I asked them what they thought of how KK has been handled. I did not lead the witness or give my opinion. They believe that the Hawks "ruined him." They said they should have sent him back and let him play another year in the W and develop more slowly. They added the Hawks could have engineered a W trade to a team where he would have played in all situations. I could not make this up and yes this fits my narrative to a word about KK. Mope +1.

Heading over to the JW to stalk and then to the Peacock for Round 1.

I think the Broissoit situation is very interesting. You don’t hear anything about him. If he is 100% healthy by the start of camp and performs well it opens up some intriguing possibilities.

Of course they need to sign Soderblom in the interim.

- Ztra

I expect him to go the Cristobal Huet route.
