Do we really think this is a year KD trades the 3rd OA, for the 11th and 12th pick in the draft?

If he does I'll be disappointed in the move.

That would be "quantity over quality."

To Pittsburgh 3rd overall pick and reichel to Chicago 11th and 12th and McGroarty
Then Hawks use 11th and 25 th to move up to 7 8 or 9 and still have 12 but need to find a dance partner to.make it happen.

The Hawks will draft Misa or Frondell with the 3OA. The rebuild needs to hit a home run with this pick, they need quality at this point over quantity, so I would keep the 3OA. They only have two legitimate top six forwards under 23 years of age on the NHL roster, and not sure at this time if any other prospects will be NHL top six one day. Trade anything else for a young forward, but keep the 3OA. I have my Yuengling and popcorn ready for tonight as I sit back and watch half the board go nuts over whomever they pick.

Pronman has Misa at 2 and Frondell at 3 in his last mock.
Last year he had Demidov at 9 so he was way off on that pick. But he also nailed the 1st two picks last year.

The Misa,Frondell thing reminds me a lot of Demidov/Levshunov last year. There was lots of talk that Levshunov was gonna be 2 and then late talk of Demidov possibly being 2 but we know how that all worked out in the end.

I don't expect the Sharks to take Frondell at 2.
I don't mind the Hocks getting Frondell at 3 honestly, just hoping for either a trade today/tomorrow or a move in FA where they land someone else to help Bedard.

Mopeville Steve reporting from LA where this should be called the Hidden NHL Draft. There is not 1 sign up anywhere except in front of Peacock Theatre which is inside LA live surrounded by Restaurants. Nobody I know here even knew the Draft was coming to LA. No Awards show. This can't go on.

Ran into Doug Maclean who told me he rarely even thinks about the Hawks because they are so far from contending. He repeated the rumor that Bedard's parents were very unhappy with Richardson and had something to do with the firing. He also said the Gerard Gallant called him after the Blashill signing and asked him how a .400 career coach could get hired without Gallant even getting an interview. Before you attack me for my anti-KD history. I am just reporting, no commentary.

Ran into McQueen's dad who said they think his son will go between 6 and 16. The dad is 6'2" and solid. Played in the W. He told me his wife was at one time the 2nd rated figure skater in Canada. Said his son is a 2 handicap, a championship badminton player, and has been great at every sport he has ever tried. I love my son but he ain't that.

Ran into 25 of the 50 Hagens here at the Courtyard pool. I found the dad and told him I loved the Spittin Chicklits he just did. All of the Hagens crew was not holding back on beers and Jack. They were having a great time.

There was a Hockey Inclusion event going on and I ran into Glenview's Al Montoya and PK Subban amongst others. I caught Subban and told him that I enjoyed his energy on TV and he looked me right in the eye and said, "Thanks. That means a lot."

I talked to the son of an OHL GM who watched over 40 games last season. He thinks the Hawks should draft Martone. Thinks Misa is not the strongest guy and is more like Bedard and needs someone to get him the puck. He said Lardis is incredibly skilled and will score but that he is not NHL strong at this point. Unprovoked he said that he thought Parekh is going to struggle in Calgary and the Canadian WJC team didn't sign him or Misa because their D is too suspect at this point.

Looking forward to the next couple of days.

What did he say about Adam Foote, Dan Muse, and Marco Sturm? Gallant doesn't get calls about head coaching positions anymore because he loses the room two and a half years into every job he has. Jackets, Panthers, Knights - All 2 and a half seasons. NYR he didn't even get the last half season.

What did Ron Wilson say when he called MacLean?

The funny thing is I rarely ever think of Doug MacLean.

Gallant and the poster are in lockstep on being contextually obtuse in this situation. Which one of Blashill’s years coaching the Wings would you have mistaken them for a good team that underperformed?

Jason Bukala of Sportnet now predicts Frondell will be selected by San Jose leaving Misa to drop to Chicago. I wonder if these guys actually hear this information or if one reporter posts it and other journalists jump on board? Whatever, it will be an interesting night. Personally from all I’ve read and seen I’m fine with Misa, Frondell or Desnoyers.

Yo Chunk, why aren't you making this post? You know the NHL rosters a helluva lot better than me these days.

First thought about moving the #3 to PIT was as I short term memory loss remember PIT having the most barren system in hockey, but I had to have a look see at the system expecting nuttin.

But no, Rutger McGroarty!! 21 yrs old and my first thought is this guy plays like Kniess (knock the bastard down with skill to do something about pucks won). Same sizeish, is a blue blood outa The Program and went 14th overall... He'll be a big leaguer next yr and is the crown jewel of their system. https://www.eliteprospect...r/526095/rutger-mcgroarty

Of course that ain't enough but PIT has the 11th this yr to add . I'm very partial to a few guys that might/will be had there (my mock/rankings looks closer to Wiz' than it ever has).

In no particular order guys I like a lot around there are Mrtka, Aitchens, Lakovic, Carter Bear and might absolutely love the Carbonneau kid. Mrtka would be a grand slam ........ And like the world I like Spence at #25.

What if KD has a valued scout beating the table for an Aitchesen, Carbonneau or Lakovic?.... How'd you like to come outa the 1st rd with what looks to be an impactful top 6 rugged with good size winger in McGroarty at 21 yrs old to skate with Bedard this yr, a pretty rugged and skilled centerman in Carbonneau (lotta intangibles AND production) and Spence for Martone/Hagens?Desnoyers/Frondell?

And/or use the 11th and 25th to move to 8 for McQueen or Martin????? Come outa the 1st with McGroarty and Martin or McQueen for Hagens?

This is interesting understanding I have both feet in the McGroarty camp and what's in it for PIT? What they may see as a more important position top 6er in Hagens, Frondell or Desnoyers!!

Or the 3rd this yr for PIT's 11th and PIT's 1st rd pick next yr giving the hawks 2 lottery tickets for the McKenna sweepstakes!!!

This proposal is at the very least very very interesting.

- Mr Ricochet

If I'm trading the #3 it will be for someone who is a proven performer in the NHL. McGroarty is basically Colton Dach at this point. Good kid, works hard, but wholly unproven. They have similar numbers in the AHL. Him plus the 11th doesn't really move the needle outside of adding another prospect.

I think the better trade partners are Montreal and Rangers or even islanders. Here is a question would you draft Brady martin at 3, bring alot of what the Hawks don’t have. A center plays a lot like Ryan Leonard just a pain in the ass player with offensive upside great work ethics growing up on a farm.

I don't agree with much of what you type, but you are certainly entitled to your opinion.

I do however, admire your ability to talk to all these hockey people. You have as good as access, or maybe better than some at national outlets. I don't see any of them reporting any of this stuff. Not sure that they can if they do, but you do a good job of hunting (some may say stalking, but not me) these folks down and getting us info.

At #3, you draft the player deemed to be the best available. From the outside looking in, the Hawks needs guys that can score. They have drafted a bunch of guys that play a 200' game and are fast. If I'm the guy making the pick, I take Misa if he's available. Beyond him, I'd lean on Martone, Hagens, and Frondell in that order.

That's just my understanding of what each of these guys bring. I have no idea if my thoughts on them are correct. Most of what I've seen is highlights. I've seen Desnoyers play full games 2-3 times I think, but I wasn't concentrating on him. Hagens I've seen a bit more of, but only one game while he was at Boston. Martone I've seen on TV 5 times, and Frondell just once but it was during juniors and he wasn't great there.

I concentrated most of my time on the AHL and Brantford as I wanted to see Lardis.

Steve- I work just down the street from LA Live and until you told me that the Peacock theater was at LA Live (used to be called the Nokia Theater- I thought it was in Hollywood) I would not have known anything was going on here. Real missed opportunity.

Thanks for the update on your conversations. We have no information if Gallant was contacted and/or considered for the Hawks HC position (or if he would even be interested considering how far they are from contending- maybe like Maclean he does not think about them either- what a passive/aggressive dig btw). I have concerns about Blashill but am hoping his years at TB under Cooper, he will have picked up a few things here and there. I like what he has said so far. Let us see what happens.

Wonder if Frondell's consideration for #2OA has to do with what we saw from the Panthers, and what you just mentioned about Misa, and his defensive shortcomings. Many scouting reports mention that he is actually sound defensively, but the concern maybe he is more finesse, and the league is looking for more physical players.

Looking forward to more of your reports.

What's the over/under on the number of Hawks players traded in the next two days? I'd set it at 3.

I've got Reichel, and two of the defensive guys. LOOOOOOOOONGSHOT chance of D!ckinson, and/or Mikheyev, but I'd highly doubt that.

Reichel and Murphy......both maybe to EDM for a cap dump. Both Bowman love childs and EDM desperately needs depth on the back end.

Bowman giving Frederic trade protection makes zero sense, and sounds like Nurse is going to get dealt to free up money. The retooling is on to build a deeper more battle tested playoff ready team to appease 97s camp. Wouldn't shock me to see him go hard after a goalie as well.....can't put your eggs in the Skinner or Pickard basket as both turn into pumpkins year after year well before midnight.

I don't get the Frederic contract at all. Tirabassi just posted "this is the most Stan Bowman poop I've ever seen", and he's right. He's 27, middle six, and a decent overall player. Why on earth are you locking him up for 8 years. Even with the cap going up, it just doesn't make sense. You can find guys to do what he does, and not commit to them long term.
