Verbeek has been trying to get rid of Zegras for ages. I’m sure Quenneville doesn’t want to deal with the Zegras clown show. Both teams are happy with the trade. That’s the way trades work.
- paulr

I guess, but i also remember a certain number 88 many wanted to get rid of because of his antics as a young man.

Are the Ducks really happy getting next to nothing for him, i think not and Verbeek probably burned his bridge with him.

All of Kane’s antics were off ice. Zegras is a punk on the ice, he gets injured allot and whose numbers are getting worse each season.

Sometimes it’s best to rid yourself of a problem without any return.

That said I can see Zegras putting up big numbers with Mitchkov. I’m just happy Philly has him.

Verbeek didn't need that extra cap space so you think trading a young top 6 forward for a 4th line center and 2 draft picks, not one 1st rounder, is a good deal? I don't, then again both teams suck anyways and neither will make the playoffs this year.
- BetweenTheDots

The timeline for Zegras: https://thehockeynews.com...re-with-the-anaheim-ducks

He has one year left on his deal. Then he's an arbitration eligible RFA. With quite an injury history over the past two years. And a holdout that probably scared a few GMs away if the injuries hadn't already.

Who doesn't feel cheated that we won't get to see him play for Torts in Philly?

Thought this was a helpful read at SN about the Canadiens having the 16th and 17th in the 1st and flush with draft picks to make a move to get a legit top 6 established NHLer but it seems all but 4 clubs are thinking the same thing.

In many ways you could exchange the Hawks for the Canadians in the article..... And for those who wanted Demidov over Arty last yr, love Demidov but thought the Hawks did the right thing, you'll like this. https://www.sportsnet.ca/...-current-market-dynamics/

If that is a lie, what does it benefit? Apparently people know the Hawks want Misa. So all that does is let the Hawks know that they'll get the player they want??

Thanks Rico. This article contains one of the most irritating tropes in hockey, that a team won't acquire a player because they are a certain size. It says MTL won't go after Rossi because he's 5'9" and 182 lbs. They also have Slavkovsky, and Anderson, and Laine, Suzuki is 5'11" and 212, Dach has apparently filled out to 217.

Everyone's favorite Conn Smythe winner Sam Bennett is 6'1" and 195 (same size as Demidov). It's such a lazy argument.

Brad Marchand is listed at 5’9”, no one plays bigger than he does. There are lots of taller guys who don’t play with the same heart and passion as he does.

It’s rumored buffalo is looking for a puck-moving defender for JJ Paterka. Who here would trade Korchinski + Toronto’s pick for Paterka? Would Buffalo want 3OA+ KK?

Would TB be interested in Reichel + for rights to Isaac Howard?

Buffalo has a better puck moving defenceman in Byram, yet he’s rumoured to be on the trading block.

rumor is Byram is looking for a long term contract on the 7-9 million range. They may not want to pay that. Trade him to get assets (players) and then replace Byram w/cheaper option.

Think 25OA and KK would be as high as I might go for Peterka.

Edit: they are looking for mobile RD so KK does not fit their needs.

Yeah right now you can see the first round and unranked 3-6, and no seven.

But I did do a nice job so far.

Correct and Verbeek is gonna spend that cap space in free agency to fill out the roster for Q.

In The Athletic this am Wheeler has them taking Frondell at 3 and Spence at 25, but his and Pronman’s drafts typically don’t factor in trades.

Burakovsky is basically this year's Mikheyev. Worked his way back from injury. He isn't going to hurt anything, he's on a reasonable short term contract, and is expected to provide a bit of padding in the middle six so that the Hawks don't need to force a kid in there who isn't ready. They weren't enamored with Veleno, and instead of buying him out, just flipped his for a guy they thought had the chance to be useful.

Looking at this move in a vacuum - which I really shouldn't do but will - I'd say they have a very high opinion of Ryan Greene to take the 4th line C spot out of camp.

- Chunk

The Burakovsky contract is one of the worst in the league. KD took it without getting a draft pick sweetener. This gives the Kracken the space to pay for Marchment. What is next? Hawks pick up Engvall's contract? Is this team in full tank for McKenna?

Pope has one out this am, he's got Frondell and Spence as well, but possibly Vaclav Nestrasil.

From what my rookie eye saw i like Frondell a lot.

We'll see how it goes but i think he upgraded the roster by trading for him.

A small market NBA team just won the title because they did a complete teardown and rebuild and looks like they will be the best team in the west for years to come, they had to ask a vet how to open champagne bottles.

The Cubs may have one of the premiere players in the league in PCA because they tore it down and built it back up. You can't trade draft picks only prospects in mlb, so basically this is how teams are built. They also have one of the best batting lineups in mlb.

Blackhawks are the first team to be this aggressive in a rebuild, Panthers are lucky the salary cap has jumped the way it has so they may have a chance at a 3 peat, but in the long run this is good for the Blackhawks not only are they hoarding all the young talent they will be able to sign many of them. 2 years Steve that's when this team will make its mark.

Simmer down boss. It's not at all a big deal. What draft pick "sweetener" are you going to get when you are already including Veleno in the trade who had no spot on the team and was talked about being bought out? Maybe a 5th? Is that really going to change a single thing with this team?

Burakovsky is better than Veleno even when injured. The hope is that his injuries are behind him and he can be a serviceable middle 6 forward. If they get that out of him great. The Hawks have zero cap issues over the next two seasons.

If KD goes out and signs another "Brodie contract", then sure bombs away. He'll deserve all the barbs coming his direction. This move is a net positive. It's not a big positive, but it's a positive.

Agree. Not sure why all the hyperbolics, but it is Steve and whatever KFC does is viewed through his Wurst lens.

Never say never but I have a hard time seeing them handing out another Brodie type deal. They signed a lot of aging vets to 1 year deals last season with Brodie getting 2 or 3 or whatever they got.

They were all placeholders and even if Lev goes back for a cup of coffee, I think it took the FO a bit by surprise how ready some of the dmen were, particularly Rinzel.

Burakovsky is essentially another placeholder at fwd that let’s them send Moore or Greene (maybe not as you’ve mentioned) to RFD if they want them to work on some things before graduating full time.
