Nothing we didn't know, but looks like even Boeser is off the FA list

July 1: Free agency opens
It was only a few months ago that Blackhawks fans — and perhaps Davidson himself — were dreaming of Mitch Marner in red alongside Bedard on the top line. That’s a whole lot less likely now. The soaring salary cap has created many more viable suitors for Marner, who’s expected to leave the Toronto Maple Leafs, and most of them will be far more attractive for a player in his prime than the Blackhawks, who are still years off from contending. That fact, combined with the strong play of the youth-infused Blackhawks down the stretch — Chicago closed on a modest but encouraging 3-1-1 kick and looked a heck of a lot faster doing it — has put “patience” back into their vocabulary. Donato might just be the Blackhawks’ biggest offseason signing.
So it’s unlikely Davidson will pursue Marner or even the Florida Panthers’ Sam Bennett, Winnipeg Jets’ Nikolaj Ehlers or Vancouver Canucks’ Brock Boeser. We also shouldn’t expect another second-tier spending spree like last summer, when Davidson brought in Tyler Bertuzzi, Teuvo Teräväinen, Pat Maroon, Craig Smith and Brodie. The future has arrived in Chicago, and any improvement will have to come from within.
That doesn’t mean Davidson won’t sign anybody at all. But Chicago already has veterans up front in Nick Foligno, Jason Richardinson, Ilya Mikheyev, Bertuzzi and Teräväinen. Murphy brings leadership and reliability to a young but tantalizing blue line. There might be room for another bruiser like Maroon or one more depth defender, but it probably won’t be a terribly exciting July 1 for Blackhawks fans.

Serious question, how’s Marchment different than Bertuzzi? They seem like the same player. While I’ve seen him play a few times, I never really focused on Marchment all that much, so maybe I’m off base here, so how is he different?

I’m thinking that some GM’s in must win situations are going to make some panic moves this offseason, hope KD takes advantage.

That's great to see a teams in our division get weaker, Avs did, Peg did, wild will be, i have no idea what the Preds are doing, Utah is an interesting team to watch, Blues are young with forwards but their blue line is old.

They are indicating that some offer sheets may be going out to RFA's? One team to keep an eye on is the Rags.

Elliotte Friedman: The Stars did test the market on Jason Robertson, they know what they could get; they've decided let's see if we can re-sign him - SN 590

Well there goes the dream

So Dallas is gonna dump a few more guys.
Extend Robo and Harley.
Then sign a bunch of Pisani's ?

He’s an RFA after next season (though arbitration eligible), so Dallas still hold some control.

He's 3 inches taller, and about 20 lbs heavier. Otherwise very similar. He's got a little bit better hands than Bertuzzi, and in my viewings of him, doesn't fall down nearly as much.

If I had one wish for the offseason it would be that Bertuzzi would go see Donato's skating coach.

I keep hearing/reading rumblings that Ottawa isn't going to spend to the cap. Add to that they need four forwards and a goalie, and only have $10M left in space, could be a deal to be made.

Not that he's the be all/end all, but there were reports around the TDL and during the playoffs that Batherson was possibly available.

Yes, I'm grasping at anything at this point.

Hearing that Jonathan Toews has an agreement to sign with the Winnipeg Jets. The contract can’t be registered until July 1.
But Toews has decided to join his hometown Jets according to league sources.

Or with the logjam at forward, Kyle flips Bert elsewhere after signing Donato. Bert is only going to continue to decline the rest of his deal but shhhh don't tell the other teams that

Just saw that on BN. Other than a Hawk jersey, while weird, the Jets isn’t at least just awful, like if he joined Kane with the Wings or he became a Blue or something gross like that.

Not opposed to trading Bertuzzi but if the lineup is even a little bit better can see him getting more than the 23 he scored last year.

He was pretty much as advertised…streaky, can disappear for stretches, nose for the net. I don’t think he’ll be here when the Hawks are contending again but I also would disagree he was in decline last season.

Getting rid of some of the stiffs at fwd last season and with the backend looking almost completely different can definitely see him chipping in a few more goals this season.

Yep, Bertuzzi is what he is, he pitches in 20-25 goals every year, you can do worse. If KD can upgrade from Bertuzzi, great, if not then keep him around to play on the third line for another year or two until the prospects are ready.

I think there's a combination of a few things that could lead to notably better results this year.
First is having an overall faster team.
Second, I think the D-corps will get a ton more shots through. Between Arty and Rinzel, they both send almost everything they can to the net (and they get through) which will create a lot more chances.
Finally, as underwhelming as the initial announcement was, I think the signing of Blashill and the staff he's collected will improve a lot of things.

Cautious optimism reigns supreme in the offseason, and I'm going to ride that wave until they give me reason not to.

.Well well well Tazer signed in Winnipeg ,surprise surprise .Glad he gone home for his golden years ,hope it works out for him ,but not at the expense of the HAWKS. Kind deja vu with Bobby Hull leaving for Winnipeg .

As much as I have been campaigning for Martone to be our pick .I would not be surprised or disappointed to see Frondell be the pick .Hey Hjalmarsson likes him ,he may be somewhat bias. Anyone who wants to be the next Barkov ,by all means .

The Dallas owner is not a rebuild kind of guy but I still think the Duchense term was crazy.
