I don't know if he's a bust but he's almost exactly the same weight as when they drafted him. Either he's not doing the work off ice to get bigger or Goodman just took a bullet for not being able to work with these guys to get them to the top.
- stevefrmglencoe

At the beginning of this year, there were reports that KK was up about 8 pounds (pretty sure it was Powers). Not bad at all if that is all muscle. He's kind of lanky to begin with, so he may be a hard gainer.

I think a lot of guys weren't happy with Goodman (even excluding Elbows), so not a huge surprise he was sent packing.

Always kept hearing that he looks bigger and stronger, honestly it never seemed to be a huge issue. He isn't the guy that will run players through the glass. His defending seems to be more about the stick work.

Does he look any different to you? When I saw him play in the AHL playoffs. He looks taller but he is a string bean. He was listed at 185 when drafted and he's still listed at 185.

So now he’s 6’2” and 185. That’s better… I think. 😂

I agree with most of this bread, however you can’t get outmuscled in front of your net either. If he’s indeed 6’2”, then he needs to be 190 to 195 at the very least.

Maybe they could get JJ to work out with him. It’s been reported in a couple places that he’s aware of what he needs to do, in terms of adding weight and muscle and concentrating on his conditioning.

When the Hawk season ended he was interviewed and mentioned that the previous season he just played as much hockey as possible in that offseason and recognized this season that his focus needed to be different.

I'm encouraged by his play when he was called up and when he played for Rockford in the playoffs, he definitely isn't the station to station kid i saw the year before.

I still believe he'll be one of the best 6 dmen we have when it's all said and done.

Hypothetical trade with Philly:

Philly gets the
3rd overall pick draft hagens, they desperately need a playmaking center, and rights to kurashev and boussiet
Hawks received the 6th overall and Colorado 1st O
wen tippet and Oliver bonk
Hawks the will draft either Matone Frondell McQueen or Desnoyers. Thoughts?
A trade I seen on puck gm was interesting
Florida receives 2025 Toronto 1st or Florida 2026 1st reichel Soderblom and 2nd rounder
Hawks receive lundell and lusterirein

For practice watchers: Patrick Kane was at 53rd Thursday morning working in full Wings gear with one of the skill coaches that the Hawks train with. The younger guy with thinning black hair. Not sure what his name is. There was a goalie on the ice as well. Might have been Sparks. They spent a lot of time on his stride. Kane has his stick on his shoulders and was doing a full push and finishing by doing a forward leg curl to the chest. As he spun around the end of the ice it did not look like he was smiling.

Philly trades up 3 spots and costs them a 1st, a young top 6 forward, and their top d-man prospect who was also a 1st rounder and we only give up our garbage?

Now other assets can be moved in and out to make it work. Philly needs a playmaking center desperately. Kurashev gets fresh start and Philly needs a veteran backup goalie. Could take out tippet or bonk in the trade.

Yeah, that’s a little steep. If Misa is not there at 3rd overall, would you trade 1st round picks with the Flyers if they included Tippett? Decent young forward with a good shot and some speed. Still not sure if the Flyers do that, but at least that’s more reasonable.

Love this stuff, Steve...... You think they might have been working on drills with Kaner's repaired hip as the focus? Take extra care to strengthen/maintain his hip?

late May and Kaner is on the ice with a trainer and a goalie. There is a reason this guy is truly elite. Sure, he was blessed with crazy talent but this guy seriously works on his craft yr round. .. Not fun shooting drills but stuff that ain't no fun.

Love to know what Bedard works on when it's reported he's always the last guy off the ice. Shooting around or stuff that hurts and ain't no fun?

Kurashev and Brossoit have no value. You can get a Brossoit in a beer league.

I think KFC has a track record of only making trades that benefit the team. I don't think he will be taken advantage of. I think he knew exactly what he was doing when he signed those FA's last year, knowing that they would only be fill-ins until this year, waiting on prospects to take their place. I think in a couple of years we will have a really exciting team, and I look forward to KFC surprising us in this year's draft. Nothing about this man is predictable.

Bedard said he was going to specifically work on strength, burst and speed this offseason.

If Bedard comes back with only 1 improvement gaining a step in burst/quickness would help him the most IMO. Simply said the kid can't really create his own shot. Extra burst would fix that and open options for the kid.

If I were greedy and asked for 2 improvements the second would be work on possession. Kid doesn't skate into 3-4 defenders as often as his rookie season but the kid still turns over tons and tons of pucks and he's your forward leader in TOI. .... Can't win like that and I think Bedard knows that.

Don't know when it will happen, and to what degree, but I look forward to the switch flipping for Bedard. Intelligent offseason work, not shooting 475 pucks a day, gets the kid closer to flipping that switch..

Ran into my favorite thing in a long while. My Guy Cam Robinson talks prospect comps to big leaguers. Really a fun listen. ........ Love what Peters said about comparing prospects to NHLers. Most of our listeners have never seen Martone, Misa, Frondell ever skate a shift so the comparisons are helpful. Well said, so it's a great listen for those types as well as guys watching games and hunting video.

Any time you hear Robinson talk prospects he says Hagens is the most skilled and fastest player in this class. Indeed, and the reason the Hawks draft him if Misa is off the board IMO........... Love the Frondell comps. Lotta talk/comparisons about the top 7-8 prospects. https://www.youtube.com/w...TKtQ&ab_channel=FloHockey

Yeah, I think he really built up his notoriety when people found out he was working with Kane years ago. I think he is also contracted by the Hawks for stretches of the year to work with their players.

Wasn't Kaner's skills coach Belfry? ... I know the Steel employed Belfry as their skills coach for a good 5-6 yrs.

How happy you think Q is walking into an organIzation that has drafted top 5 a few times the last few yrs and his 2 centers are top 3 picks McTavish and Carlsson with Gauthier on the wing and Kane like Zegras too?.... McTavish has a lotta Toews in him, reminds a bit of Peter Forsberg, with his compete and coaching Kane for 10 yrs will probably coach Zegras to his ceiling.... McTavish has 225 NHL games at 22 yrs old and 220 lbs. He's gonna pop.

And Gudas-Trouba in his back end!!!........ I watched a good bit of the Ducks last yr to see McTavish but expect to watch a lot more of them this yr.
