Kind of crazy they were held to only 17 total shots for the whole game and only 4 in the 3rd period.

Dallas shots by period were 7 - 6 - 4...they didn't get much done with their season on the line.

Yea but to some Dallas making the playoffs is all that matters.

I remember the 80s and 90s, it sucks always being second fiddle to the other playoff teams.

Build the monster that you can right now because once the winning starts you pretty much stuck with the hand you have. Kind of like Dallas is

Dallas was one of the deepest teams going into the playoffs. Duchesne, Johnston, Benn, Rantanen, and several others all disappointed this series. Combine that with some mind numbing defensive lapses and this is what you get. Dallas was picked by many to at least get to the final.

You say build the monster you can now, but are very reluctant to spend money in FA or trade valuable prospects to do so. Once again, you can’t just hope all of your picks hit their ceiling.

Tampa, it will give me an opportunity to drive the 72 miles to Amelia Arena and maybe meet up with Wiz.

I think that the Hagens going first talk is all from the outside. I don't think there is a chance that he goes to the Isles unless they drop down.

Same. Just an added talking point for the talking heads. Porter Martone come on down!

No, just you want it today, and i understand it doesn't happen overnight. This takes time, Dallas didn't get where they are overnight, same with Edmonton hell even with the LVGK, it all took time, which you don't seem to have the patience for.

There’s a few of us who have lots of patience, certainly you, but Chunk also fits into that group. Just because he, and a few of us, want to see KD expedite things by trying to acquire NHL ready forward(s) doesn’t make us impatient.

Uh... what exactly took time with LVGK? They went to the cup final in their first year. They won in their sixth year and have only missed the playoffs once.

I'm not advocating for the Vegas model (never have), but with all of the capital (cap space, picks and prospects) to not pursue high end players when available and just hope all the prospects hit is just stupid. It's needlessly delaying being competitive.

I am also NOT advocating trading ALL of the prospects or picks. You can be measured in what you pursue and still be aggressive. If Brady Tkachuk, or Jason Robertson, or someone of that level were available and the other team wanted some combination of a 1st (or two), Vlasic and/or another forward prospect, hell yeah, I'd strongly consider it - especially if it brings in something that the Hawks don't currently have. Toronto is exhibit A of teams that have a ton of skill and scoring, but don't have the roster diversity to be competitive in the playoffs.

Finally, once again (loud enough for the cheap seats) you won't be able to ice all of these prospects.

I am for them getting an NHL ready fwd this offseason and if it takes picks and prospects to do it then fine.

I’d rather them go the trade routs and maybe target one UFA like a Bennett, if he’d agree to come.

I’m sure Bedsy would be an untouchable. I’m hoping Rinzel, Nazar and Arty are too.

I would think Vlasic is going nowhere as in spite of the lone opinion of one poster, he’s on a team friendly deal.

Like Rico says, GM’ing is hard.

I understand both sides. In my opinion building through the draft is the best way to build a long term competitive team, but you also need to then trade from your surplus to add what your team lacks. Of course adding through free agency also helps to finish off your rebuild, the issue is that this year’s unrestricted free agent class leaves something to be desired. Whether they add this offseason or not, they’re going to be better, if they want to jump up about 20 points, then they’ll need to trade to upgrade the forward group, preferably with a player that fits their timeline. Bottom line, I’m skeptical about adding a FA this offseason, however I would welcome a trade to upgrade the roster.

That all sounds reasonable to me. I think a trade is fine as long as the right opportunity comes up. i.e. Don't force it.

Just saw a post from the IceHogs that they hired Jared Nightingale as HC. Long time AHL guy. Was an assistant from 21-24, was team captain in 13-14, and was just named ECHL coach of the year with the South Carolina Stingrays.

From what I've heard (listening to various talking heads), the Hawks want the Hogs to concentrate more on development than wins/losses.

I have patience because rebuild was the only choice and it's not an exact science. I also know it takes a lot longer than people accept. Teams that rebuild ALWAYS go through several front offices. If KD lasts he will be the first I can think of?

DAL loss last night sets their #2 pick at 62. CHI has #3, #25, #34, #62, #66.

If trading up (per trade value chart):

#25 with #66 or #62 might get to about #18
#25 with both #62 and #66 might get into the low teens
#25 with #34 might get to about #10

#34 with #66 or #62 might get to about #22

Not sure those combinations would really get you as far up as the chart is showing. I might be inclined to stay put and make all 5 picks as there are a lot of interesting prospects there.

KFC always seems to want to make a move though, and combining #25 and #32 could get him in range for a big guy like Lakovic or some other talented player dropping out of the top 10.

They must really like Sorensen here to keep him with the Hawks and promote a former assistant.

Nightingale has his stamp on all the young D men in the system.

He coached Perbix, Faber, Sanderson, and Klevin for US Development, not a bad resume.

He's played under some legends. His college head coach Comley coached Division 1 for 35 years. Played a year for Cooper, a year for LaLonde, a year for Anderson.

Bulk of his playing career under Gernander and a year with Wilkensen. Also played for infamous Ted Dent.

Lets hope more of Cooper rubbed off on him than Dent.

Anybody can come close to last for years and draft high. Tallon did it here and in Florida. Tambellini did it in Edmonton. It takes other skills to fill in the missing pieces to win. Zito is doing it. Bowman has done it and is looking astute for adding Walman, Frederic , Skinner, Kapanen, Klingberg, Podkolzin, Arvidsson, and Emberson.

Yeah, I am not worried. Has as much chance of happening as Korbustsky still being with Hawks at 25
- Elbows15

I don't know if he's a bust but he's almost exactly the same weight as when they drafted him. Either he's not doing the work off ice to get bigger or Goodman just took a bullet for not being able to work with these guys to get them to the top.

It means don't make a trade to make a trade. If the right player is there for the right price, go for it. Don't go out and overpay to bring in someone who is only 75% ideal or make the trade just because people "expect" a trade. The Hawks don't need to be desperate or shouldn't have pressure to make the trade, but should be willing to deal if it makes sense.
