Winning a cup is hard, not sure why winning a cup is the only measure that a GM is good. - j.boyd919
Never said that. Poile, Doug Wilson never won a cup but we’re good, there are others. Dubas has this rep of being a brilliant gm but in reality he inherited great players and accomplished very little. And the great Cap manager is always in trouble with cap space. His vision so talked about has not spelled success. |

I have no comment on Dubas in Toronto, so don't drag me into it. He hasn't won me over yet.
In Pittsburgh, the head coach has too much sway with ownership. I don't think it's stopping Dubas from making any player moves. I only said I don't think he can fire the coach unless the owners change their mind. - Tojo.
This gets to me, don’t think there is any way he can’t fire a coach. He signed a 7 yr deal with all the power people insinuate he didn’t have in Toronto and you’re saying he doesn’t have the power to fire a coach. They gave him full power over hockey operations . Owners typically get involved when it comes to spending their money.
Maybe they say no to a major contract but to not have the power to fire a coach . Makes no sense |

May make no sense but that's how it's rumored to be. The owners love Sully. Not unprecedented in sports. |

That’s why baseball people shouldn’t own a hockey team. |

It's official, kyle dubas sucks and he's the president of hockey operations and GM?
Dubas signings: Hayes, benstrom, nieto, Beauvillier? (whoever that is)?, Puljujarv, lizotte, koivunen. The writings on the wall or lineup (if you call it that)? This is embarrassing and disrespectul to sid. Full blown tank coming to ya this season.
Let me know why dubas brought EK at 10 mil on a rebuild? Nothing but crickets and zero answers here..
Dubas is doing a great job of screwing with sid and the core along with the fans. (not on this website though). People here love the moves by dubas to support sid and the core. Whatever????
I'll let you know who will win the cup this year again, like i did last season. Here's a clue though... It's not going to be the pittsburgh penguins.

BINGO! There's the answer, Sullivan signed a three-year contract that kicks in this year.

Come on really , you said he constructed the leaf team that did so well with standings points. Didn’t know that was goal but anyway he inherited all the star players except JT . He couldn’t get a very talented team anywhere near the promise land and his signature move probably hurt their chances. Think the 11 mil a year in cap space would have been more impactful. And Rutherford made the trades that won the cups no doubt. They win nothing without Kessel . That is the sign of a successful gm in my book. Oh forgot about the OHL turn around, that does change Everything - johnnypie
Do you always communicate like a condescending pr!ck?
I don't think Dubas has done well with the Pens so far. I thought a weakness of his coming in was his handling and evaluation of goalies. Goaltending mismatches in playoffs was a huge reason they didn't advance some of those years. Bob last year looked like a world beater and the Cats a team of destiny...turned out it was a season premature. Year before that they lost to a borderline dynasty with arguably at the time the best goalie in the world.
They had their best ever regular season, in their 107 years of history, 2 seasons after he became GM. If you're absolutely convinced he didnt have any hand in that, that's cool. You're arguing straight up facts and I'm not really interested in keeping it going. |

This....and you while you can sh!t on his time with Leafs (usually sooky Leafs fans are the only ones at this) its factual he was successful at other levels of GMing in hockey haha.
We're just finishing up year one of him with Pens at a very critical, pivotal and transitioning time in franchise history ..so far I'm not overly impressed haha |

Yes, and its a very high paying contract...but I think there's much more to it than money. Boston boy and he actually is a good coach haha its just he's gone stale with Pens. Theres also the reports of Sid and Geno not wanting to play for anyone else...might not be true....but theres a few reasons he's still around, for sure.

hahaha I know, man...and people have repeatedly said this to him. I'm not sure why the idea that thoughts, feelings and plans can change after a disappointing season, or just life in general, can't stick. Dubas publicly admitted his plan for last season failed. |

I don't know of anyone who calls Dubas a brilliant GM. I think that's a misconception among hockey fans like yourself.

Because they were trying to get back into the playoffs and win. The only time there are "crickets" is because people ignore your awful opinions.

I wonder if we add one more signing or a PTO. There are still some interesting names out there like Jakub Vrana, Dominik Kubalík, Erik Brännström, and Oliver Kylington. All could be interesting pickups. |

Avs signed Brannstrom...watch him excel now...but I do think there will be a high number of PTO's around the league come September and I am down with the Pens having some, for sure...though there really isn't a lot of job openings for the Pens, with a lot of guys fighting for like 2 spots already hahah |

At first Dubas was branded to be a GM wonder boy with all the answers and analytics to out smart everyone. I think that all died pretty quickly though and he’s just a guy trying to do his job like everyone else. The EK deal and Graves deal are head scratchers for sure. |

I think Vrana ends up in the SHL. Zadina would make more sense for the pens. |

He was branded that but it wasn't even accurate and he's stated it in various interviews when asked about analytics.
The quote below has pretty much tracked his entire Leafs and Pens tenure.
"As a whole, the point I’m trying to make here is that Dubas shouldn’t be labeled as an “analytics GM” because a lot of his moves don’t make sense if viewed in that light. We tend to label people with superficially representative labels, when in fact things are far more complicated.
Kyle Dubas obviously uses analytics, but his critics seem to view him as nothing but a math nerd, when, in reality, a lot of his moves are criticized heavily by the ‘analytics community’ and do not seem to correspond with much of their thinking."

Trying to compete? With what? The enitre city knows what this team lacks and that's some toughness and a new coach. You won't see either of them with GM sullivan as the new GM. I heard some guy named dubas was president of hockey operations? Is this true? I havent seen or heard anything yet? |

They don't have the cap space for zadina. Unless they take EK back and a couple 1st round picks? That isn't happening.. Who else they going to trade that's valuable on this roster or in the minors? Any of the core? They have to waive the trade clause. Benstrom, hayes, poulin and the other bums I mentioned are not getting you nothing.
