Sign me up. Do you think it's possible they keep Chytil and still target Colton? If what TJ said is true & we only need to sacrifice picks or a prospect for Colton, would you trade Berard/Sykora or a 2nd & maybe lesser prospect for him? Move Chytil to 1RW and have an insurance policy of another C in the lineup in case one goes down. Just a thought. But I also see the need for us to go get a bonafide top 6 RW - NYR11
I don’t think the team as you’ve noted is any better/worse than last years team in the playoffs. Chytil a slight upgrade is Rod, but that’s about it.
If targeting Colton for 3c, that means moving on from Chytil. Unless you move Chytil is your Kakko replacement as 3RW. I just don’t think that’s realistic at this point in time. |

I think they’re (frank)ed is why lol they signed, or have to, mittlestadt and have oodles of players paid lots of money. That what I read anyway
But he’s a goodrow who can score more - Slimtj100
I just don't think cap-strapped teams look to move their value contracts first. If they are looking to move Colton that tells me they don't think he's worth $4M even if he's a good player.
I don't think we're in a position to be adding overpriced assets. I don't disagree that he's a good player that would be a good fit. I don't agree that he's worth $4M |

Colton makes $4M and is a bottom 6 center. Didn't we learn that lesson with Goodrow? Paying for these bottom 6 guys that have won a cup is an expensive endeavor that rarely works out. These teams win because they're paying these guys minimal salaries not $4M - SkjeiStadium
3rd line center that hits, puts up 40 pts, 15-20 goals and is 27? $4 million? Sign me up. |

It was rumored that he saw leading neurologist at the university of Michigan when he was rehabbing. Not sure you can ever get 100% certainty with brain injuries, but I'd say going to level of professional is probably the best you can do. - blacksheep1
Yeah, we are most certainly speculating.
Nothing about the Chytil Saga of 2023-24 was typical. So to me, it is reasonable to surmise that he may not have been dealing with typical concussion issues. It was floated on here that it could have been vertigo that set him back after his collapse in the pre-practice skate. That would make a lot of sense with the way he roared back to life after the season.
I agree with those that say we just treat him like any other player until proven otherwise. |

He had a good season on the 3 rd line. He does a lot of things well, PK too. We kind of need a PKer to replace Goodrow.
I wouldn’t be upset if they didn’t get him, but he’s the typical guy people have been asking for. He’s dooshy, speedy, hits and chips in on offense. I don’t think Avs want to get rid of him by choice fwiw
Kakko for Colton would be the perfect trade imo but I don’t think they want salary back like I said. Chytil could move around too with him on board. |

That's fair and obviously if we brought him in I'd be pumped to root for him, I just typically don't like chasing the bottom 6 guys from cup winning teams because they always get overpaid. I said the same thing with Goodrow and then ended up rooting for him.
A lot of the talk around Colton getting moved soon also has to do with a NTC kicking in on July 1. Not sure I love the fact that he'd be coming in at $4M AND have a NTC, but again there are worse moves we could make |

If Chytil is the 3C, we need a RW that plays physical to compliment Cuylle. |

Hes a much better player, intangibles maybe not, but an actually hockey player he’s way better

Colton has been very consistent too, last 3 years, which to me is a good sign that he won’t regress really |

We dont know that, hopefully it's not the case.
Remember Crosby also has concussion issues early in his career and he overcame them. - Brukie
Crosby had neck issues that were mis-diagnosed as concussion issues!! That's the scenario I'm hoping for here. |

I still think it was vertigo, w/Fil. Seems most likely because you’re dizzy for months at a time. Never had it but that what I hear |

No I get that, I understand that he puts up more points and is good. My comparison is more about the money and that he likely wouldn't be making $4M right now with a NTC if he wasn't on that 2021 Tampa team. That experience can prove beneficial but it comes with a cost which is usually a hefty one.
I'm having a hard time thinking of teams that won recently who have players in their bottom 6 that they brought in from previous cup winners. It just seems to me like the teams that are ultimately successful find those guys before they hit the big stage and make the big bucks |

They have landeskog and nichuskin in limbo too which might have a lot to do with him being available
I get your devils advocate sentiments. I just think he’d be a really good fit here. Like Sam Bennett lite |

Will be interesting to see what happens, I won't belabor the point any more. If he does end up a ranger I'm sure he'll be one of my favorites and I hope it works out. I hope Drury can pull of something a little more under the radar that people will look at after the year and say what a masterclass that was, similar to Forsling this year |

As long as Drury doesn’t go to the well of last year, ie Bonino, Wheeler, Pitlick, etc we’ll be in good shape. He has more cap room to do things this year |

In fairness to Drury he had very little to work with last year so he threw a bunch of darts. While the 3 you mentioned didn't work out great, you have to include Quick and Gus in that list too and both of them played major roles throughout the year.
Agree that I'm hoping for a bigger splash this year with the extra cap room |

Last year he had no cap space and no way to make cap space lol. Don’t blame him for last offseason |

He has to be. Can’t run it back. This core is maxed out at a ECF team. Need to make the necessary changes |

I learned something interesting and new today and am passing it along:
Despite all of the advancements in technology, almost all of the GMs when discussing deals/trades with other teams almost exclusively have their conversations ON THE PHONE or in person. No texting or e-mails until deal is agreed upon. This is purposely done so that there cannot be any "leaks" or written proof that could undermine a GM with their own franchise. Imagine how Igor would feel if a disgruntled MSG employee publicly outed an e-mail chain showing the Rangers wanted to trade him!
I guess it all makes sense but I never knew that prior to this morning... |

And when we sign Igor, we’ll have over $40 million on 5 players. That’s not a recipe for success either. |
|
|
|
Igor $11+
Panarin $11.6
Zib $8.5
Fox $9.5
That’s almost half your cap on 4 players. On top of that, the 3 (Igor excluded obv) are north south guys, not built for the playoffs. Need to find a way to fix that. How? I don’t know. |
