Its kind of funny he may have been the Rangers 2nd best (to Igor) player in the playoffs though.
Rangers will end up finding a way to add Jake hahah

40% shooting will do that. I think they only have <14M in cap space though and need to sign like 6-7 people |

Calgary seems to be stuck at a bit of a crossroad. Their roster is just basically a bunch of salaries and players thrown together. Not good enough to compete, not enough young talent to say they are rebuilding. Some really big contracts with guys who are no longer 1st line players.
I honestly don't know what they are going to do there. They should just be tearing it down and starting to rebuild or at least re-tool but there will be a lot of pain involved.
Mangiapane & Kuzemenko are going into their final seasons and both have big cap hits. Kuzemenko was really good in his short time with them, so maybe they should keep him but if I were them I'd get as much value as I can out of the pieces they have and move on.
Wonder what it would cost to trade Huberdeau's contract? They have two picks in each of the first 4 rounds this year and 2 first in 2025 and 2026 now. Crazy that he was a big part of the return for Tkachuk and now they will have to pay a whackload to get rid of that contract. |

We need to call our buddy back.
Kyle Dubas need to walk through the door with Ryan Graves under his arm to give him the care salesman pitch.

Whoa.... Pierre Luc Dubois to the Caps for Darcy Keumper.
Given Keumper is just a cap dump and no longer a good goalie it makes me think Graves for PLD straight up would have been a better value for the Kings.
Seems like a great move for the Caps. Why not take the risk with where they are at with Dylan Strome (and the corpse of Backstrom) as their top 2 centers. |

I would rather they go after Sharangovich... |

I think it’s clear Macdonald is the future coach. Spend a few years in WBS and then promoted when the team goes full rebuild (obviously if Macdonald has solid results with WBS). |

That's nuts!! Definitely agree. I feel like other teams could offer more if cap dumps were on the table. I definitely would have taken a shot with PLD. Maybe this helps our odds of getting Patrik Laine for nothing. |

I believe that given Laine has a shorter contract and is a right handed sniper he has a much higher value than PLD. Now, this doesnt hurt the return that Columbus is going to get but it sounds like there are a lot of team that will be interested in taking a shot at Laine.
Good news is that it makes it more likely that LA would trade for Smith as PLD was playing a lot of LW for them and they just cleared some extra cap space. I would laugh if LA goes out and trades for Laine now!!!
Keumper fell off a cliff last year but its possible he rebounds into a solid 1b again next season. Frankly, I'd consider the gamble trading Jarry for him if we could squeeze some quality assets out of LA in a deal. |

PLD didn't have a great year given his cap hit and that new contract is pretty long. I think neither team won there.
Wonder what's Graves' story this offseason? Healthy and training with Crosby? Maybe he should stay in Letang's house this year? :p |

So...the Kings basically traded Lafallo, Kupari and Vilardi plus a 2nd for Kuemper.
Horrible asset management. |

They knew the Rags were going to buy him out, so why didn't they work out a trade to either get the Rags to retain and/or get a draft pick? Were they really afraid somebody else was going to claim him? |

I am pretty sure these two played together for a short period back in the day. Entirely possible they have a friendly relationship and Grier has an IOU from Drury in his back pocket.
Otherwise, yeah... doesnt make a ton of sense but while the contract isnt good, I agree with the strategy of bringing in some good vets to help the younger guys with their break in to the NHL. |

Well... Villardi is a guy I really like but while super talented, he continues to have injury issues. Iafallo and Kupari are just warm bodies.
So yeah, not a good move but I respect that Blake took action and fixed his mistake asap instead of letting it continue to haunt the team. 95% of GM's won't admit to their errors and their ego wont let them make this trade. What matters is that this is probably a really smart move for LA at the moment, even though I think Dubois is going to have some success in Washington at least for the first few years of that deal. |

Honestly, I think both teams won here. Washington desperately needs an injection of talent. Bad contract be damned, the most important thing for Washington right now will be getting Ovie that goal record. He has a better chance getting it with Dubois than Strome. I think Dubois will be motivated to be a part of that.
And LA frees up cap space long term and adds a rebound candidate at a position of need. If they use the cap space from Arvidssons expiring contract plus the net reduction on the PLD trade to sign Guentzel or another top FA it would be a huge win for them. |

You're talking in hindsight. When that trade went down those players were expected to be a bit more than warm bodies. Future injury problems aren't known for anyone not even Vilardi an 11th overall pick, Kupari was a 20th overall pick and Iafallo, a stud out of NCAA that was averaging around 15 goals a season...then there's a 2nd round pick which has value. Everyone and their mom not only knew PLD was a f'n idiot but also that contract was horrible. So yeah, horrible asset management. |

There is a chance Dubois doesn't step up for the Capitals and much like with his time in LA he gets dropped down the line up. Which would be great for us! |

With some of these trades happening. It might be a good time to try and unload Graves and Smith. |

Supposedly, the NHL doesn't like trades/moves to during the cup. They don't want anything distracting from the game. I guess the GM's are saying eff that.
I think were stuck with Graves, but Smith should definitely have a market. Like others were saying, it's a little intriguing with it being a contract year, but I wouldn't take the chance. If they find a destination, they should take it. Find somebody that wants to be here.
