It blows my mind how the roster is this bad with that much tied up on cap space. The Flyers will simply never learn. - hereticpride
Ellis is an UFA in 2027!!! Torts will be 69! |

So, the generational guy has now slipped to #6 in a 2 year span?

Sounds to me like a player in his 30s whose slowed down as his body doesnt recover from bumps and injuries like he used to. That with a bad back and bad knee I would anticipate that will be the Couts we see more often than not. - hfc355
I don't think it matters how old you are playing 22 minutes a night after missing a season and a half. You are going get dinged up. The age just made it worse.
Torts and the team were negligent in continuing to ride him hard instead of trying to manage his minutes. Then when he finally started to falter they through him under the bus saying he needs to "play better".

I was referring to the fact that MM was considered almost on the same plane as Bedard, whos is generational apparently. So, almost generational. Which usually means once every fortnite of years.
But now, in that list, #6 in a 2 year span.

People need to take Corey Pronman’s analysis with a grain of salt…one guys opinion. Others have suggested that MM is in the top 3 of the last two combined drafts. The problem arises with the lack of actual eyes on all the Russian prospects over the last few years.

To be fair, it’s Pronman. He weighs size very heavily. All the guys he has ahead of Michkov play a higher value position too. |

Aw, just think of all the great 6th picks!
Foppa was one, right? And OEL? Zibanejad. Ummm…Monahan and…ok I gotta cheat.
Oh damn. Scottie Upshall. Really?
Kozlov! There we go. He was pretty decent. Damphousse, always liked saying that name. Mikko Koivu, but not Saku. Still good. BOOM Paul Coffey.
Ooh. Hartnell. Maybe we got a future postgame analyst with a hot wife. |

I hope to God that this is NOT how they flyers draft this year. Please no.....

This is a philly site and this is the crap that they have chosen? - Bob Habib
Kind of hard to evaluate that trash without seeing who they feel was drafted before them. And they will not be drafting with Columbus' pick in the 2nd round.

He averaged under18 min per game his lowest in over 10 yrs. Do you really believe if he played 16 min per game he would have had a better season.?? Couts results is not on Torts and I am not a Torts defender. Couts is slow and the NHL is a speed game. Couts is a quality 3C no longer a top 6 player( on a contending team) - hfc355
Yes he averaged that, but he played over 20 minutes a night up to Christmas....then his ice time dropped due to him looking spent. I am sure his average minutes in the first half, compared to his average minutes in the second half are vastly different. |

Hronek may be on the block. should the flyers have interest? - hello it's me 2050
He's looking for huge numbers. Vancouver has over $25 million in cap this summer, and they probably not signing him due to his price.

yeah, its a little disingenuous to say he "averaged 18 minutes a night".

Definite trash. But I can't image that is the strongest pick available regardless of who was previously drafted.

Until he missed two games with an injury in mid January, he was averaging 20 minutes a game.
https://www.nhl.com/stats...ssists&page=0&pageSize=50 - Feanor
Exactly...overplayed by at least 5 minutes a game when coming back from his issues. He should have played limited minutes to start, and ease him back. Take key faceoffs late in games, but get off the ice quickly. If he was eased back in, say 14-15 minutes a night, maybe he could have handled 20 minutes a night down the stretch when we needed him most.
Instead, Torts put winning above logic and the health and well being of a key member of the team. |

I get it that maybe Couts didn’t report it but the team(coaches and training staff) should’ve noticed the drop off and would undoubtedly notice a change in the gym workouts with a sports hernia and the way he was skating. One would think anyway. And hockey players (with the exception of Ryan Johansen apparently) do everything they can to play through injuries. It really raises many more questions than it answers. If he was that hurt and didn’t report it to the point where he was a detriment to the team… is that captain material? Or allowed it to apparently cause some drama in the locker room because he was benched… oh Captain my Captain? Is the training staff good enough to flag a slight change in his skating and workouts and address it? Or did everyone know, including Torts, but the lure of the playoffs was so enticing they played it off in the public as just bad performance? - mikeyo27

Very very big IF...coming off missing 2 yrs plus an ineffective year last season I think that ship has sailed - hfc355
Agree. Sorry to say but, the days of Coots making a significant impact on this team are past. Most likely will start missing more games than he plays. |

If Michkov does come over this summer, I hope Briere takes a run at Tarasenko. Give Michkov a true mentor who can still play at a high level. |
