Right, but think about the time it will take for a lesser defenseman, and their impact would not be as great even then. - jd250
That’s fair. I was more commenting that some people seem to think they can turn this around in the next 2 years. |

They're guaranteed a high end prospect at 12. They just have zero control over who it is... which isn't exactly ideal. Or maybe considering their draft history, might be a blessing in disguise?

The player i would target is Zayne Parekh. With some added muscle this kid could be a stud.
If he falls to 9 or 10 I would make the deal even if it included TK. |

I could see the defenders going earlier then expected. So many teams are looking for them that I think they will be taken early which is why I could see some of the centers/forwards dropping.
I could see Levshunov, Silayev, Parekh, Buium and Richardinson already going in the top 10. There is even a case Yakemchukand even Jiricek sneaking in the top 12. That could be 7 of the first 11 picks going defenders because Celebrini will be number 1.
That could leave some solid options for the Flyers at 12.

Chuck might be going to Carolina, in Friedman's mind.
https://www.sportsnet.ca/...rolina-columbus-winnipeg/
"I would think if it's an internal hire it's going to be Tulsky," Friedman said. "However, I've also heard from a couple different people that Dundon really likes the way his front office was set up in the sense that he had somebody there who knew the personalities across the league very well and could deal with them on the level that Don Waddell could.
"One name someone threw at me the other day was someone like Chuck Fletcher where he would fill that role and Dundon, Tulsky, et al., would still consider to make a lot discussions, lead a lot of the decision making, but a Chuck Fletcher type person would be in the Waddell chair. I don't know it'll end up being Chuck Fletcher, but someone was saying if that's what they're looking for that's the kind of person they saw doing that job."

To me none are in that category, but we have some really good players and we all know they don't win cups. We need for elite forward and defense prospects and the way to those is in the draft and if we have to trade roster players to move up then we do it.
TK, Laughton, Sanheim, Farabee but only in good hockey trades.
I would combine the 12th and TK and see how far up I could move with that package.
I would combine the 28th and Farabee and try to move up into the top 15.
Both these trades do 2 things, open up roster spots for young players so we can see what we have, and cut salary so we can take on 1 year contracts to flip at the TDL. |

The Flyers will spend to the cap again on free agents so making space for young players won't be the goal. Jonesy will be after the playoff spot he thought was in the bag back in January. |

I'm sure it's a bit of both, but I have no doubt the Flyers had a player development issue and its something Briere acknowledged even as asst GM. - jd250
Based on how Tortorella has handled young players. They still have a player development issue. |

Trash talking isn't.
Unchecked arrogance, taking opponents lightly, being unprepared to compete and coming up small in a championship game are all potential character issues.
To not even mention whatever it is that happened between him and the Flyers. - Tomahawk
I'm not nearly as well versed with prospects as you are but when was this a problem with Gauthier? He was a finalist for the Hobey Baker and was named the best forward in the WJC

As someone who attended hundreds of games as the Spectrum including nearly every regular season and playoff game between 1981-1993, I can safely say that JJ’s goal vs Edmonton in the 87 final was the loudest moment in Spectrum history.
It was easily the rival of any metal show that I saw at the old barn! - BiggE
Was in high school in 1987, and the day after that game, every classroom I went into at school had "Let's go Flyers" written on it. That team was so, so good, and they came within about 50 minutes of play of beating one of the NHL's all-time best teams to win the Cup. Close enough to cry... and I am not embarrassed to say that I did after game 7 ended. |

How much is on the head coach to "develop" players? His goal is to win games.
Can't blame all the development on the head coach. Needs to be a system in place between the coach. Do the flyers have that? no idea |

I was very upset after they lost game 7. Felt that they were going to win it tbh. I also really thought the 97 team would get it done and that was a crushing loss as so many of those players were big favourites of mine. Big e Leclair hexy snow desjardins and brindamour |

If that were to happen the Flyers would be crazy not to offer RR for a 1st+ to Carolina but I doubt they that stupid to hire Fletch. That might be enough to cause Tulsky to bolt after seeing the Flyers stellar use of the analytics dept under Fletch.

Remember Waddell didn't exactly have a sterling reputation before they hired him either.
It's not your usual GM role where the top guy is making a lot of major decisions on his own, by his own wits. It's a pure synergy between a lot of different people and departments. Chuck would just have to get on the phone, be charming, and execute on the organization's plans. |

how do you draw the conclusion he took them lightly? - hello it's me 2050
Nobody who respects their opponent and takes them seriously would let that slip out of their lips, even in private.
Acting like they were all unbeatable and a team of destiny then getting shutout... truly hilarious.

Whoever they pick at 12 should be around York/Farabee quality.
High end, probably not elite (talking about quality as prospects, not as NHL players). |

the flyers 1st playoff game against buffalo after a 5 year hiatus you felt the building shake. that was the loudest I ever heard it. wasnt at the jj game. - hello it's me 2050
I was across the street at the old Vet for a Genesis concert and when JJ scored the Vet exploded too!
Was at that Buffalo game and you’re right. The whole place was vibrating. The mood was electric. One of the most memorable games as far as atmosphere I’ve ever attended. |

Centers and Top Pairing D are the hardest to find. From everything I’m reading there appears to be a decent number of potential 1C and 1D although chances are none will drop to 12. However, if there is a run on D or C with a smattering of can’t pass on wingers, maybe the Flyers do get lucky. Fingers crossed!

19-21: Not a single elite talent with Foerster, York, Brink, Andrae, Tuomaala, etc. Some are NHL players surely but there's nobody who can drive the bus.
22: They clearly missed Cutter's maturity/character issues. McDonald could be the only guy who plays a game for the Flyers from that draft as the others are spinning their wheels.
23: Michkov basically fell in their laps. The Russian goalie, Bonk and Barkley look decent but way too early to tell where any of them end up.
One potential elite player in 5 drafts is... concerning. - Tomahawk
What elite talent was drafted since Giroux? Coots had a couple “elite years”, TK is good but not elite. This organization stinks at everything. |
