Stamkos seems more like a retire with my family in Tampa and keep the band together for a couple more runs at the finals kind of guy. He's left money on the table previously and it wouldn't surprise me if he took another team-friendly deal. He doesn't owe the team that, he's just seems like that kind of guy and that's why he wears the "C" in a club with a culture that Yzerman built.
Having said that, 8 years takes him to age 42 which is not realistic. The guy is half cyborg already and I don't see his joints holding together into his Gordie Howe years. Yeah, he's a fitness freak, but that only goes so far. I think he gets 5 years. Not sure what the AAV or caphit might look like though. - GalacticStone
I'm saying he signs a long term deal before he turns 35 and just retires early (after 4 or 5 years) with most of his money up front. Keeps his cap hit low short term and long term, don't think the penalty would be that bad.

Yzerman is a bad example. He entered a great situation in Tampa. In Detroit he hasnt done anything in 5 years.

I don't know how all of that kind of stuff works with contracts, bonuses, etc. I do know that Briesbois is not afraid of using cap shenanigans to get what he wants, so maybe he gets creative to keep Stamkos and the band together.
If somebody has to go for cap reasons, I would rather it be guys like Sheary and Jeannot. There's been talk of moving Cirelli, but that would leave the Lightning thin down the center behind Point. Stamkos is more of a winger who can take faceoffs now.

I wonder if they'd prioritize the coach and Marner having a sit down if they for sure were gonna trade him. - Zezel
Gotta' keep up the façade Z-man!
Like the loser douche canoe who drives a high end sports car he can barely make the payments on all the while surviving on a steady diet of bologna sandos and cereal while living in a 200 sq foot apt with milk crates and beer cases for furniture & an air mattress for a bed.

Man who can afford cereal these days? - Zezel
It is insanely priced for sure, I just buy whatever is on sale. Sometimes it's a win and I get to try a new cereal that I really like, other times not so much.

Some people dont need a lot to live.
Just the basics and a overpriced sports car.
Its like us Ontarians, we dont need quality schooling for our kids or healthcare for anyone....but beer in a corner store when you can get beer already everywhere is what we really need

You're describing me at 19. Only difference is I drove an old banged up Caprice station wagon. (The shaggin' Waggin')
And Lucky Charms represented half my calorie intake.

Is this where you wait for someone to argue with you about Conservative POV vs Liberal POV?
If so it won't be me, that BS has no place here at all and I loathe the fact it always seems to make it's way into this place. Most folks here don't want it and it never ends up in polite conversation so why go there?

A. I am disappointed in your lack of appreciation for me insinuating that Berube has you on speed dial to come and straighten out any pencil neck big hat wearing Leaf players who need it!
B. This milk commercial is a certified banger. Ok maybe not but it made me laugh back in the day and again today when I just watched it.

Agreed. Lets go back to the old days when we didnt talk about religion, politics and sex...'cept boobies (saying that in an Arnold Schwarzenegger voice), we can talk about those. (joking of course)
Seriously, no bloody politics. They all suck anyway.

So assuming they do whatever and have cap space to sign UFAs...who's potentially on the market that you guys would most like on the Toronto Maple Leafs?
