Isn't that guy ranked in 3rd? - AdamFrench
Button has him at 58 but the more recent stuff from Pronman and Wheeler and ESPN have him 20-30. |

Circling back to this ...hmmmm. Critical queston for Tree, again assuming MM is back - is he better off going cheap on the goalie (eg. 2.5M for Brossoit) and having more to spend up front OR is he better going all in and trading for a goalie at $5-$6M (eg. Saros or Markstrom) and going cheap up top (eg. Robertson slots in instead of Domi or some other UFA winger).
Today I'm leaning goalie. Get the 2C, the blueliner and the goalie with your 18.5M and go cheap/young on the wings. - The Law
I don’t think you need to/should be driven by positional need when there are needs throughout the lineup and when it’s not a one year process. If there’s a player you like and can afford to lock in at a good price, do it and fill other spots with short term deals. Come back next year and fill in more then.

I think marner stays
But id definitely go for this trade:
Marner to vegas
Hertl and theodore to Toronto
Vegas doesnt do it. - Fakepartofme
Vegas can't really do the 2 medium contracts for 1 big one. They already have to move some money out to fill out the roster. |

I agree with that. Good deals are the priority above all else ...but, all things being equal, I lean towards goaltending, a blueliner and 2C as the priorities over the wing.
For example if Lindholm wants to sign here for $7M then get him signed and stick a bandaid in net for the year. |

Because Jack Johnson is the most athlete name ever. He should be required to sport a 50's Johnny Unitas crewcut and dispense salt tablets on the bench. - GalacticStone

I think the only time I've agreed with Button was when he said Jake Virtanen was a late if that first rounder and his game wouldn't translate to the NHL outside of becoming a 4th line goon like Raffi Torres. But interesting. |

It's also the former nickname of my wang.
Back in the day the gf had a crush on Jack Johnson (bluesy pop star) so I decided to name my Johnson, Jack in the hopes she'd enjoy corresponding with him more often.
It seemed right at the time? |

Ya Button doesn't seem to. know his poop. I miss Bobby Mac. He knew his poop.
The Cosentino guy knows his junior hockey and I can read his stuff but I can't stand listening to him speak.
The Athletic guys are alright - lots of detail but they're both heavy analytics guys. |

There's a really good reporter that covers the Marlies (can't remember his name), but his writing is fine and insightful, but his presence in front of the camera is cancer. So rare to have somebody with both skills. |

So over signing these mid level goalies, rarely turns out.
Can't hold out hoping you get a Hill like run, it is rare. - Santo_44
The goalies you can trade for (by GSAx):
Ullmark: -1.9, (signed by Boston) -2.5, 38.2, 21.6
Markstrom: -12.1, 15.6, 1.5, 28.9
Saros: 7.8, 12.6, 45.6, 7.5
Gibson: -3.9, -4.4, -2.3, 1
Now this stat is always a little misleading because it is heavily reflective of the team's performance in front of the goalie as well, and in 21-22 when Ullmark sucked with Boston so did Rask and Swayman - they even sucked more. But I'm not sold on Ullmark as a guy who carries a team like Toronto with it's defense. That said, we don't know how much Brad & Berube plan to remake the defense.
Goalies are voodoo, but Saros is 29, Markstrom is 34, Gibson is about to turn 31 (not that I like Gibson, but he's likely available) as is Ullmark.
I'd shy away from 34. Outside of Saros - who has only ever lived in a defense-first system - I don't know if I'd trust any goalie available by trade.

Thompson at 750K. That's the risk worth taking. Goalies usually cost less in the trade market and he's proven to be an experienced 1A option.
If not, you got a bunch of back-ups like Nedeljkovic, Stolarz or Brossoit that you have to hope can play 40 or more games.
Cam Talbot at 1 or 2 AAV could be worth it too.
I'd say the dark horse out there might be Matt Murray if he's healthy.
He's 30 and maybe you find something valuable in training camp if he takes a PTO. |

Oh, for real? I couldn't find a single redeeming quality about that guy, but I guess this sort of explains why he still has a job. Like nails on a chalkboard, though.
