Was healthy last year.
Did great at the worlds.
Can always LTIR him plus the Leafs have a few young prospects that are going to push for spots. - Santo_44
For me, I'd rather see someone from the Marlies get that spot in the lineup. |

Matthews passes? - drexel
He'll have to, because Marner won't be there to do it. |

Saw an interesting trade idea on the athletic.
Basically Marner and Kadri going to Utah, CGY getting a bunch of picks and prospects and Toronto getting Andersson and Markstrom back as main pieces.
Not sure what the pieces should be but the grounds of that deal makes sense for all parties. Leafs could go after Crouse. |

Trying to do this with Marner.
Lindholm 6.5M
Tanev 4M
Kase 1M
This is difficult. - Santo_44
Ya, even if you assume budget friendly in goal and depth Dman that leaves you with about 14-15M to spend on 2 fwds and a top 4 Dman.
Domi at 3.5M?
Stephenson at 5M?
Tanev or Roy at 5M?
Hypothetically - In a world where they traded MM they'd have room to add Lindholm, a winger, a blueliner, and a better goalie ...plus whatever comes in a MM trade. |

I heard Tampa was connected to Kase. I hope they avoid him. It would feel like he's always one wrong hit away from LTIR. - GalacticStone
Seems like a perfect Lightning. 800k-1mil for a guy who gives it his all and at the end of the day, if he dies...he dies. You guys have no prospects coming in. |

Completely different offseason if they trade Marner.
I'd imagine they work on this quickly, I think they will have a very good idea of if they are going to trade him or not before the draft. |

Weirder things have happened, but look up his stats at his age as comparables. Kuzzy/Tarasenko/Kaprizov...and Tolvanen...forget that last one though. - AdamFrench
I haven't watched his whole season but I've come around clips of him floating so god damn much.... I'm now having doubts about him. Not saying he won't become anything good... just... doubts.
He's what? 150 pounds? He's not winning many puck battles along the boards with that shape.

Would his contract be insured?
No idea how it works with him being so injury prone. |

Ya if it's not a green light by the draft then it's too late. July 1 is too important so they'd need to know whether it's happening or not by then. They can execute it after July 1 but they'd need to know their options long before. |

I don't believe they will trade him, but if they do, it won't be until after July 1st.
He gets $7,250,000 on July 1st, and $775,000 the rest of the year.
IMHO, MLSE eats that $7,250,000 to get a much larger return. |

True. I don't think Isaac Howard or Dylan Duke are ready for primetime yet and there's not really anybody else of note behind them. Kase can't be worse than Sheary has been. |

While I agree....They would likely have a deal in place by the draft.
The leafs and the team that is trading for him wouldn't want to go into July 1st with an 11M cap hit being an uncertainty.
handshake deal by the draft. |

I'm honestly wondering if this is possible.
Would teams be willing to risk so much with no guarantee?
Or would the NHL allow the teams to file the paperwork two weeks prior? |

The NHL wants this trade to happen for sure.
But I think there is enough respect between GMs to handshake on it. It is what? 5 days?
As long as no one dies or goes to jail they are good. |

It already happens too. Deals get agreed between teams/agents/etc.. but you've got to wait to pull the trigger .....no big thang'. NHL would love the media it'd get on July 1 too. |

Tonnes of them ....but if he's less than 1.175 (hide him on the Marlies), who cares? |

The high upside and zero risk other than a financial loss......Perfect player to target.
Makes zero sense not to target him, unless he wants too much but I doubt it. |

We have a pretty good record as of late for taking guys who want to re-establish their careers - give them 1-year deals on the cheap, but they get the media spotlight. |

McJesus is in a unique position as a player in terms of leverage. Everyone in the league knows he is the best player to suit up since Gretzky or Lemieux. His stats would be obscenely-higher if he had been playing for a true contender all of these years.
If I was him, I wouldn't hesitate to test the free agent market when my parole date from Edmonton came up. In another two years, the cap should be high enough for several teams to make a play for him.....including....wait for it......the Leafs! (*heads explode!*) - GalacticStone
Crosby is absolutely in the conversation with McJesus. |

There are multiple players under contract in the leafs org with far far lower upside and probability of being an NHL player than Kase.
They signed Nicolas Mattinen ffs. |
