Just listened to a French podcast that interviewed Briere recently. Couple interesting notes:


He says while they don’t speak directly to Michkov because his English isn’t very good, they do speak with his agent.

He told Sean Walker and Scott Laughton that if the price they set on them was met they’d be traded. Colorado met the price of a 1st for Walker so he was traded.

Also, said he hopes he doesn’t have to make anymore trades like the Walker trade. Admitted that he felt it took the confidence out of the room.

He talks about how for too long they been in this rut of make the playoffs, miss the playoffs, make the playoffs, miss the playoffs, and need to get out of that rut. Says it’s not ideal, but they’re comfortable with missing one more year.


So it seems like they probably won’t do anything significant this summer (unless you count Michkov coming over). They’ll see how things play out next season, and then it’s back to the old way of doing things.

My basic point is if Michkov comes over and stays at RW the depth chart is as follows: Michkov. TK, Tippett, Foerster, and Hathaway. So someone is either moving to LW or traded. No need to trade the 4th line RW. Maybe the RW 1 year away from being a UFA perhaps?

As exciting as this is, our center depth is so pathetic. I wish we had a real guy for him to play with.

I agree. It’s a big piece of the puzzle but we have a lot of work to do building this roster. What’s most important here though is we get him over here and allow him to develop progress acclimatize without some crazy coach cutting his ice time for no reason (I’m hoping Torts doesn’t do this as well haha.). Need to keep drafting like crazy for the next few years.

If Michkov comes over, he basically replaces TK’s production immediately. They’ll likely be drafting another winger at 12, (Eiserman, Iginla, Sennecke, etc.). They already have Tippett, Foerster, and Farabee that you’ll add Michkov to. So there’s your 4 top 6 wingers. They still don’t have a #1C and still don’t have a #1D, or at the very least someone good to play on Drysdale’s left side (assuming they see JD as their future #1). So even if they abandon the rebuild, it would still make sense to trade TK to acquire those pieces.

they will do the opposite of what you suggest. bank on that. they are more likely to go after linholm and overpay him to be the #1 center. begging and hoping they re-sign tk for 8 years at 9 or more per.

flyers are nowhere near being anything special. 2000 light years away. years away.

I don’t know what I will think. I guess I’m gonna have to see what they do after free agency in the draft but I’m sure that I will admit. I am wrong if they do what you say I hope you will admit that you were wrong if they do what I say.

It makes more sense to try and trade TK then Farabee from a team building standpoint. They are currently lacking in LW depth.

If Michkov comes over this summer for his development he needs a center to play next to consistently. Poehling played 20 mins in the last game of the season, certainly he is not the answer. Move wingers around to a new position seems like an odd to accomodate Michkov for me.

This is what I’ve been fearing for a bit now. Michkov coming over will only convince them more to keep TK and go after others like Lindholm and possibly Chychrun. I feel so dejected by this news today. I really thought drafting him and him not coming over for 3 years would actually turn out to be a good thing where they could draft a few more elite players before he came over and then you have a young elite core to build around for a long time. Oh well, go Phillies!

I think they should trade Konency in the 0.01% chance Michkov could becoming here. There really aren’t enough moving parts on this team. We’re thin at center. Thin on D. Goaltending is a question mark. The wings are really the only area we’re strong at, especially the right side. Take from the wing and bring strength to another areas.

The Flyers should absolutely be rebuilding and I’m on the side of anyone who believes they aren’t but if Michkov is coming, you can’t have him playing on an island by himself.

MM news is getting spicy. Could this kid be here next year?

What if they could move up into the top 8 to take a D without moving 12, and therefore if he falls, also getting Catton.

Flyers get:
2024 MTL 1st (5th ovr)
2024 MTL 3rd

Canadiens get:
Konecny
Laughton
2024 PHI 2nd
2025 PHI 2nd

Got some mixed responses. Funny that one person told me that wasn’t enough for MTL to get that return and another basically told me to pound sand, haha.

I don’t expect Catton to fall to 12 but he’d be awesome to have. I think at 12, they’re likely to be choosing among Helenius, Iginla, Eiserman, Sennecke, Brandsegg-Nygard, Yakemchuk etc. if they could pull off the above trade, and draft one of the top D, then take any of these guys at 12. They could look to also move up from the FLA pick if Hage falls into the 20s.

How do you expect them to address it? I mean that sincerely. As pointed out in a previous blog they have little cap room to work with this summer. Next summer they will be in a much better cap position if they don’t muck it up this summer. Do you expect a trade for Zegras or Necas? A signing of Lindholm or Stamkos? We covered many blogs ago there’s no chance they’re getting Draisaitl.

Yeah, probably a little bit of an overreach on my part. Bedard put up 61 pts in 68 games this year. Michkov I could see in the 50pt range though. So not entirely replacing TK’s production in year 1 but by year 2 he probably could.
