and don't do it unless $$ is retained on his contract (25%) and a sweetner added to take on said contract in Clarke (D) + 3rd pick in 2025

Get off the drugs.
Garbage trade.
So (frank)ing stupid. Why the hell would the leafs trade for pld? Such a waste of cap space.

So many stupid marner trade suggestions

unless the Sens add Boston's 1st rnd pick 2024 and Ottawa 2nd rnd pick in 2025.
then it's looking like a deal could happen.
again the second proposal isn't good enough, it's not rich, it's poor.

I suppose Chychrun and the Boston 1st is a fair deal for Marner. I think Chychrun plus Grieg is actually a better offer.

Still can't figure out how Sens can fit a $12m salary into their team cap structure.

Don't see Marner accepting less on a new deal.

I think that is the hard part of any Marner deal. What team is prepared to put Marner on the top of their cap at $12m?

That would be a good deal for the Leafs. I am a huge fan of PLD. The LA trade was the worst kind of fit for him. They started the season him as the 3rd line centre with weak line mates and it went down hill after that. Somebody is going to steal a very good player that LA failed to use effectively. Winnipeg did so well in that trade.

nope not even close to being fair and NO Chychrun plus Grieg is NOT actually a better offer unless you add Boston 1st.
I would say drop Greig and add Pinto.
so Chychrun plus Pinto plus Boston's 1 rnd pick in 2024 is looking like a better deal for Marner.

Seriously. Sens successfully dealt DeBrincat in the Division to the Wings and avoided the curse of signing an undersized player who fades as the season gets tougher. This is the curse of most undersized player. It gets a lot harder after Christmas. In the playoffs they can fade completely.
- spatso

Sour Grapes. DeBrincat didnt want to be there and they gave up nothing to get him.

I don't think the Sens offer Tkachuk, Stuetzle, Sanderson or Pinto...perhaps Batherson.

I believe they will be open to moving most other players from their existing roster including Chychrun or Chabot.

I believe they would be open to trade a 1st round pick (Boston).

The Sens have publicly said they will be looking to add more top 6 scoring.

Marner would be a huge addition for the Sens top 6. But, I don't think anyone can figure out how to make the cap fit work. I think it is the same for every other team that might be open to doing a deal with the Leafs.

In the end, I think Marner stays and resigns with the Leafs.

As you have learned, Debrincat puts up good early season numbers but disappears after Christmas. His $8m contract looks outstanding in October. But, once the big boys start playing for real after Christmas, the little guy totally disappears.

I'm not saying they SHOULD take Laine over Matthews...they SHOULD just THINK about the possibility.

PLD is a throw-in dump on any potential deal. He's not remotely in the same realm as Marner. And that's not the Blue and White Koolaid talking. As a Leafs fan with an outsider's perspective, I would hang up the phone on any PLD offer that also didn't include a thousand draft picks.

Zach Hyman has a very club friendly deal with the Oilers at $5.5m.

Most Leaf fans, including bean counting management types, would concede it was a mistake to let him slip away.

Marner and Hyman are very different players.

But, mark my word, letting Marner slip away may cause even greater fan sorrow than watching Hyman perform in the playoffs.

- spatso

Hyman on the Oilers is not Hyman on the Leafs.

As per Marner, the Leafs have won a single playoff series during his time with the team. A single round. The "run it back" strategy is not a winning formula.

If Marner finds success on another team, so be it. He's not winning here and never will win here. Sometimes that's just the way things play out. 🤷

I think you might be right.

I think Marner becomes the NHL story of the summer.

There are very few contending teams able to absorb his salary. And, building teams are reluctant to take on a big salary that would mess with their internal cap.

But he is a great hockey player and somebody will bite and pay a h
