Marner is not waiving his NMC to go to Utah.
 - Nasty_Duck
Utah is interesting. Lots of cap room and an owner ready to spend. I could see them offering to overpay in a big way to bring in a big name player. Still, big question about whether Mitch wants to move that far out of the spotlight |

There's also the fact he's a UFA in a year.
Who's trading for 1 year of Mitch Marner? A contender that has enough cap space to fit him? Not many of those.
I'm guessing an extention would need to be negociated, which, added to the NMC, complicates things even more.

I don’t see Mitch moving unless he’s getting a big, long term deal. Otherwise he’s better off playing out his last year where he can rack up big points before hitting free agency. |

Stay away from my #Optobus.
I need it for the draft lottery tonight.
Although I get why you're interested, it carried us to the finals in 2021. - Scabeh
That's the one.
Come on - short term lease...

Tavares still has utility in a Stamkos-like role. Put him on wing and give him PP/PK time. Don't try to force him into a shutdown role or expect him to be 2C. I think those days are behind him. He's too slow to shutdown anyone with speed, like Point. Leafs should resign him with enough term that he retires a Leaf, but keep his caphit more realistic. Middle six cap hit.
I'm not going to wade into the Marner debate. I'm going to look at it strictly from a cap management standpoint...
Nylander and Matthews are signed long term. JT and Marner's contracts have one year remaining. If you keep JT at a reduced caphit, then Marner becomes the odd man out. If he walks you get about $11m in cap relief. If you resign Marner to a big money contract, then JT becomes the odd man out and the Leafs get about $11m in cap relief.
You obviously can't keep all of the core 4 going forward, so somebody has to go. If management tries to keep this core together, then management needs to be sacked.
Don't burn it down. Don't throw the Nylander/Matthews out with the bath water.
Everyone needs to pick one : JT or Marner.
You aren't getting both, and perhaps you shouldn't want both either. $22m in cap relief is enticing, but that leaves two big holes to fill.
No easy answers, except for firing Keefe.

the clear obvious thing is to re-sign MM, ride out the final year of Tavares. then hes off the books.
they tried the core 4 for the entirety of the JT contract. they wont dump Mitch just for the sake of it.

He is 100 point player.
You have guys like Briere and Carberry telling the media that the only way to get a star is through the draft.
They may not get a D that can compete for the Norris but it would be an impressive return. |

I now think the Leafs are going to Fire Keefe and run it back.
Shanny has 1 year left on his deal.
Mitch and JT have 1 year.
Shanny will pitch that a new coach will allow them to break through.

Well they poured their resources into Murray for him last year.
900K and a 150K signing bonus on waiver day like they did to Jones.
Woll is signed.
Sammy....ouf well he said he wants term and I can not see another team giving it to him.
would he do 3x 2-2.5M? I mean I have no confidence in Sammy but unless they trade for Saros or Markstrom the other options are not the best. |
