I think the boys on Overdrive had it right yesterday when they said something to the effect of: the problem started when Dubas insisted on sticking with this core 4. It wasn’t about the Leafs winning the cup, it became about proving they could win a cup with these 4. It became about them. Everything was given to them and it stopped being about the team winning.

Not sure what Carolina is going to do. Pesce would be nice, but I think Chatfield is just starting to find his own. Basically the Hurricanes 4th/5th d-man and fills in nicely higher up when needed. Might be able to steal him more cheaply. Bit of a gamble.

I mean teams generally don't give away top talent, because teams generally don't paint themselves into a corner like Toronto has.
