I find Siegal to be pretty dramatic just for the sake of it. He has a tonne of really stupid ideas on Overdrive when he's on there. Like shake your head level stupid.
I'm not defending Shanny ( I don't care if he stays or goes) and I wasn't on or off team Dubas ..he ran his course (welcome to pro sports) and he played a big part in that divorce with his weird "new" demands after the deal had seemingly been struck.
As to Siegal's point about Treeliving being in tough ...I don't disagree but realistically Dubas would've been in the same situation. July 1st wouldn't have suddenly had more options for Dubas then they did for Tree. Most decisions made July 1st were regretable ..even the ones Dubas made in Pitt. I had no problem with the Bert or Domi signings. Jones worked out. Benoit was good. Locked up 34 at a fair number. Klingberg was terrible but was a 1yr gamble in a summer of poopty UFA d'men. Would Dubas have brought back Holl for 3 years instead? or traded the farm for Karlsson? and his cap hit.
For me, too much ink is spilt about Shanny. Dubas built this team and deserves any praise and criticism ...and now it's the Tree's turn. He's in the crosshairs this summer. - The Law
Agree on Shanny, I also could not care less if he stays or goes but people pretending to know what he has done based on which media outlets they chose to believe to fit their desired narrative is a farce.

Problem with Shanny is there are lots of reports that he was vetoing trades.

No there were reports at the same time Dubas was leaving/let go. And the follow up reports indicated that there was some tension b/c Dubas thought he had a deal to acquire a significant D'man. EF believed it was Karlsson. If true, are we mad that Shanny put up his palm to that one? I'm not. |

I don't disagree with your assessment here but the difference is big time the part about only having an outsiders perspective. Treliving took the job, but he did so having the same insight as anyone on hockeybuzz did.
If you've decided it's time to make the change, getting your current manager through the draft and free agency with a heavier rubber stamp than usual is the requirement. You cannot force yourself into the spot they put themselves in willingly. Look around the league, how many organizations are doing that to themselves? |

Kampf drove that 4th line and even made it look good with Reaves on it. He also took a ton of Dzone faceoffs and started in the Dzone 87% of the time. - jribout
Drove it and Reaves so well they changed the line for the most critical two games of the season. There's room for an argument to be made that Dewar was the spark plug on that line when it was firing.
Kampf wins faceoffs and was a premiere penalty killer on one of the worst penalty kills in the league. Neither is something you need to pay 2.4 million dollars on a 4 year deal for. |

ya I don't disagree (although he's probably a little further ahead then the average buzzer) but he's still behind. But, Pridham was still there and a bunch of staff and maybe more importantly - it doesn't sound like Dubas gave him any choice. |

Oh, I apologize. Did I use that media outlet to pretend Shanahan fired the teams GM three weeks before the draft and free agency?

The whole gaining $11 mil is a fallacy..The return will not be Zero $$...Teams would need to send salary back.
If you look at my posts I am all for change but let's be a little realistic.
Also the Leafs lost a series that they were supposed to lose... Boston was favored. Most had Bruins in 6 or 7. - Azuredoom
You might get a contract back. But not necessarily. Marner to Utah for a 7th round pick. They get a top asset. Leafs get cap space. Tavares to Chicago, to pad his stats for a year. Add a 2nd round pick. Take a 7th in return. It can be done.
But fine, take back a contract. Marner for Kerfoot. So there is a warm body for a year and still get $7.5M space.

Maybe he'd let Treliving do his job, something Shanahan has been unable to do with his GMs. It's Brendan's failed plan - he should be FIRED. - fifty__missions
I never said he shouldn’t be. Somebody is going to be overseeing Treliving. I don’t want it to be Keith Pelley. |

I accept your apology because my comment had absolutely nothing to do with you or yours. It was more about all the trades he has vetoed, and how he tells Keefe who to play etc.

Do you have any precedence for such trades in the NHL? Think JT gives a poop about his PP time? I think he cares more about his family being in the Toronto area, especially with his young kids.
Don't see why he would waive a year before FA.
The idea that a GM of another team wouldn't pay him millions because Toronto buried him in the line up is asinine. Do you think it's Shero playing GM for every team?! |

If Shanny is not replaced the Core 4 are going nowhere.. Simple as that - Azuredoom
Unlikely any are moved regardless.
Tre has his hands tied & it’ll take some awesome maneuvering to do it. |

Tavares could be moved.
If you find a team that is close to Toronto (Buffalo) or a playoff team with cap space that needs a bit of offense (Nashville) the Leafs could retain salary and move him if he decides to waive for the right situation.
And if he so desperately wants to return, he can come back as a UFA next year at 50% the salary.
They can keep his pajamas warm.

Gods?
I think we found the problem that we knew was already there. - sokosteve
Toronto fans treat Toronto players like gods has become a scandal? Says the Leafs fans who obessesively follow the Leafs on hockey forums?
In other news, water is wet, grass is green and Leafs fans have an unrivaled ability to scapegoat absolutely any player at any time for any reason. |

Hmm, let me think. Remember when Treliving himself wanted to get rid of Monahan's $6.4m cap hit? He attached a 1st round pick and convinced Montreal to take Monahan. Calgary received future considerations, which amounted to nothing. But they did get $6.4m of cap space.
How about Boston that wanted to escape Taylor Hall's $6m cap hit? They convinced Chicago to take him. The return was two AHL minimum wage players. Saved the Bruins $6m.
Should I keep going?
