ohhh, so he's a defenseman, it all makes a lot more sense all of a sudden lol.
- Pat1993

that would make 2 good vets at a reasonable price.
not sure they will keep Savard, the game is getting faster, him not so much

Monahan will get more than that.

Not alot more, but if truly the best offer is to give him 4M per for 3 years, it's a fine deal for the Habs to make.

he's never been an elite skater but he's still able to keep up very well, pairing him with someone a bit more mobile also helps a lot. and he seems to be a very important part of the leadership group, something you can't neglect moving forward into a rebuild.

His underlying defensive stats were very good as well.

Sure he doesn't play the PK but is that really necessary to be considered a the best defenisve forward?

ISN'T OFFENSE THE BEST DEFENSE?

oh absolutely, excellent glue guy, great leader, good contract. love him.
the question is, do you sign him for another 3 years?
not sure.
it will depend the kind of season he has, and if the kids are ready to take his spot or not.
if I had to make a decision now, I'd say no. time will tell.

ideally 2 years I guess..? if it's 3 the cap hit would have to be pretty darn reasonable... anyway they're still gonna need some veteran presence on the backend for another year or two imho, unless a young dman takes giant leaps and progresses much quicker than anticipated in his development.

2nd in takeaways and blocked shots for forwards, 7th in forward +/-

While scoring 69 goals and having 108 points.

I don't watch the leafs as much as fido (he always posts about them). So he should know that.

I'm an old smuck. Selke nominees should be about defense, not scoring 69 goals.

to be fair though, bashing teams such as TOR and BOS is kind of part of habs culture or any sports fanbase towards their rivals...

never understood why you didn't spend a bit of time in the laffs thread, gotta be tiring reading the leaf bashing going on in here lol.

Unfortunately, without a defined criteria, people get lazy with voting and just look at who was at least kinda good in both. Like the Norris, it's borderline the Art Ross for dmen

I'm having a very hard time caring about that series lol...

and I always find it weird for some reason that teams start their 2nd round games while others aren't done with the 1st round yet, but I guess the cup could end up being won even later than it already is if teams waited, something the NHL is probably trying to avoid.

i also was thinking about the way the series start before the others end. was it always like that? i never noticed it as a kid.

good question, I'm guessing if I find it odd it may be because teams used to wait and started each round at the same time back then, I dunno.

and yeah, betting a dollar would add a bit of significance indeed but on the other hand, the fact that I don't really give a poop about those two teams isn't very enticing to place said dollar on one of them. oh well, (frank) KK and that bunch of jerks.

i just love it. researching the stats is fun to me, watching them get it for me or (frank) it up for me is fun to me, i just love fun.

when else ever would i be like "jacob trouba took a penalty. can't have that. that's 2 minutes he's not out there to block a shot for me!"?

I miss 1 v 16, 2 v 15, 3 v 14, etc....

I crap on the Pandemic playoffs, but at least we saw different teams face each other in the playoffs for the first time in ages (or ever!).

At least that was interesting.
