Yikes, Toronto got bounced again. Marner to Pittsburgh rumors incoming! |
|
|
|
Toronto is cursed. If you look at their game 7 losses over the years, the probability of them losing all of them is around 1%. Jfresh did the math a little while ago. The bigger issue for Toronto is they've spent all that money on forwards and they cant score in the playoffs. Nylander is the only one who shows up.
Start the Marner and Keefe rumors.

No thanks. I’d take Domi or Mathew Knies but Marner is a fake, and Mathew’s sits out playoff games with a tummy ache. Dudes are paper tigers. |

You don’t like cheap forwards who can score? |

Man I feel like I was on an island saying it would have been a great idea to try to buy low on Boeser. I’d love to have this version of him. Maybe it’s unsustainable but he’s looked great all season - Victoro311
I said the same thing about JT Miller but everyone was like "that contract though" and "he doesn't play defense"
103 points is lookin kinda nice with 6 points in 6 games.

Marner has a NMC and 1 year left. He's only waiving to come to PIT for a super huge contract extension. |

It depends. I think people overestimate the number of teams that'd be interested in him and what it'd cost to get him.
Advantages Pittsburgh has:
1) Older and established core. Like what appealed to Karlsson, Marner wouldnt be in here with the spotlight on him.
2) He knows Dubas, and Dubas was the last one that gave him a contract
3) Playing with Sidney Crosby
Could other teams make a better bid for him? Sure, but at the end of the day, it just depends on what he wants.

My view could be corrupted by the TOR media, but always seemed like Marner was the prototypical modern athlete: mostly driven by fame and money. If so, I don't see him coming to PIT ... but I could be totally wrong.

A guy on his own team who doesn’t wear a letter just told him to “stop crying, this isn’t juniors”. Do you really want that guy. I mean we shed Guentzel. Why bring in another whiny little female dog. |

Torts is the best coach in the NHL. I’d gladly trade you. - Grinder47
I can just imagine Torts coaching this team. Malkin, Letang, and EK would all be healthy scratches on a regular basis. Crosby would be the only player he would retain on the first PP. Torts would throw Jarry and/or Ned under the "media bus" repeatedly, while schooling the Pittsburgh sports media regularly on their lack of hockey knowledge, the fact that most of them just parrot each other's stories, and telling Rossi that he should have stayed in the ice cream business.
No, I don't think it would work .
As for Sullivan, I think he coaches this team the way it wants to be coached. They can replace him, most likely with a lesser coach (and Boudreau would definitely be lesser), but it won't change the way they play. |

The Toronto media would have a negative view of Mother Teresa. I dont think a guy like Marner should be playing for his hometown team in that competitive of an environment. It isnt for everyone.
I think Marner would flourish in a market where he wouldnt be under the microscope and had some more mature guys in leadership roles. |

Torts has coached 17 seasons in the NHL since winning the cup in 04. He's won 4 playoff rounds. |

VGK LTIR strategy didn’t work out this year. They’re going to trade for Marner and he’ll be mysteriously injured until the playoffs |

To get Marner I'm pretty sure they'd ask for Rust, 1st RPs, prospect. Would this be worth it? I'd go for it if he could re-sign for less than $9M/year.
I used to like Rakell quite a bit. Good hands and passes but he got me mad this year. He took more than half of the season to get in shape. This sucks. |

Torts would bench Crosby to make sure Sid knows who is in charge.
Torts deserves credit for making the Flyers a (more or less) competitive team again this year, but his ego and over-reliance on players who "play the right way" wear thin quick. |

Rickell: a mix of Brian Bickell and Rickard Rakell
If this is true, nice to hear. He'll be better next season.

In fairness, that's what he's good at.....getting young/less talented teams to over-achieve. Once you're ready to win, you dump him for someone more serious.

Pretty much. For better or worse, he instilled a coherent system and kept players more or less accountable, although it went too far on a number of occasions. But yeah, he's the guy to instill a certain type of culture to players but someone else would be needed to come in and actually get them to win. |
