All for adding a UFA so we can keep assets. We will not be hating ourselves for holding onto promising prospects if we can round out the team through other avenues besides trade.
- QuinnFan

They should do both, they have to many Prospects. They need to start getting value out of some.

William Karlsson is a 60 point 3C.

Yeah I'm kinda curious about some of these heel-turns I'm seeing today on this first round pick business.

- TheSabresTaco

Because the guy they get at 11 will undoubtedly be the steel of the draft. No questions asked.

Can't they all get pushed for a year outside Rosen?

Is Lindstrom, Catton or Iginla there? If not, trade it.

Stephenson > MoJo but Lundell who knows, maybe. That's why the cost would probably undo that particular opportunity. Florida would want a haul I'd imagine.

So we want to go the route of Now over spending on a UFA Which has been shown to rarely work because we’re afraid to lose a prospect?

It was just last year that everyone was claiming you don’t build your team through free agency

Noooo thank you. Can't stay healthy. Didn't produce in the playoffs.

You make the pick. Draft is stacked.

Of course it is.

Every draft is “stacked” until 3 years later half those guys are Zemgus Girgensons, Peyton Krebs, etc

The previous 3C for the Sabres was drafted 8th overall...the current assumed 3C was the main piece targeted in the Eichel trade, and drafted 17th......why is this 11th pick assumed to be too high of a price now?
- washedup20

The "3C in Buffalo" that was drafted 8OA is now playing 2C in Colorado and has posted 6 points in 5 PO games, while playing at +5 and 54% Corsi over those games.
That is why the 11th has higher value than a traditional 3C

How long did it take Casey Mittelstadt to arrive? 5 years?

So we will be getting the same fabric that’s leading this team, and a prospect worth trading Jack Eichel for….siiiiiiick

Kevyn spoke on wgr this morning at 9 if anyone cares to listen. Nothing too interesting, two things I'd like to call out. I've said often that Kevyn is pretty easy to read, and tells you things without literally telling you, sometimes.

-11OA is definitely in play, significantly more so than years past. Also certain they don't trade the rights to Celebrini.

-Expressed his confidence in Skinner (dull) but in the same breath said they'll sit down with Lindy and discuss how they make the Sabres a better hockey team (less dull)

I'm having thoughts about a Tavares trade to Buffalo this summer.

No it is. The same poop is said every single draft on how there’s always players that would go earlier if they were in a different draft

Whos been saying this around here this year? I have not seen it.

No one thought 22 was strong. The 1OA pick was taken 1OA cause of 8 games at the WJ's. Other than Hughes, Kakko, 2019 was thought to be weak going in.

Not entirely. I just think if we can get a guy like Duchene on a short term, high dollar deal, you do it and hang onto the assets. If we can't entice any UFAs, which is likely, it's moot. I have just never heard of a team having too many prospects, we're no different, you keep the good ones if you can. Have already said I'd trade 11OA for a couple centers that Taco brought up, I'm not opposed to sending them off, but also realize the benefit of getting free assets through FA.

Edit: Let me ask, if signed Kane and Duchene, traded for Trenin (2nd rounder?) and stood pat there, keeping all our prospects, is that a bad thing?

Sure, but What does that have to do with trading this years pick?

You can get Benson in the draft the year after, or the year after that, or the year after that.

The Sabres need help now, and the chances of getting another “Benson” that’ll play right away are slim.

I would take that contract and player from the Leafs if they threw in a 3rd rounder. Nothing in return or basically nothing like a obscure minor leaguer, I dont care if it is Johnny T.
