Tavares at his AAV and age is going nowhere, nor is Matthews. Nylander just signed an 8 year extension which starts next season so he is going nowhere either. The only one that does not have an extension is Marner and those that are watching this series can plainly see Marner is not built for playoff hockey. Nylander has actually looked good in the games has has played.

You still haven't learned the concept of sample size. The fact that Nylander just signed an extension, does not mean that he can't be moved.

He's wrong because the player that should be moved is Marner.
- jd250

You can have that opinion but moving Marner would be stupid.

Did you actually watch the games in the series so far?? Marner is a complete non factor.
- jd250

No, I haven't watched any of the Leafs games. Yet, I still know more than you do.

is this a fact? you can trade the better player and improve your team. thy def need to see what is out there in terms of a trade and what the return will be. Then what the next move would be if they did trade him. Would they be fools not to explore a trde cliff?

They still would have AM and Nylander to build around. Along with some other solid prospects. Not going to be easy but it is doable.

Just think if they trade JT back to the isles for s pittance and free up his cap space. Not an impossibility.

Hands down its marner that needs to go, if you get a #1 or #2 D who is physical, that would sure help. Maybe a chyrun + something. Matthews with all the MVP talik needs to put this team on his back, not sure he has it in him. The issue is more than just marner. Do they need darryl sutter to coach them for a couple years?

Tavares is 33 and one year removed from an 80pt season with 1 year left and his actual cash owed is 4 mill less than his cap hit. I could see a team taking a chance on him and if it doesn't work out flip him for a picks at the TDL. Not that the Leafs would get anything other than salary cap relief but I think he has a full NTC so he isn't leaving unless he wants to and he doesn't want to.

well AM isnt going anywhere. JT has a NMC. So they have 2 realistic options to trade if they want to break it up: Nylander or Marner. Imagine if they traded both.......

I do think JT back to the isle is a small possibility.

Marner also has an NMC according the cap friendly. As does Nylander.

Flyers have now set a trend in leadership. Paramount's CEO is stepping down and the company will now be led by a triumvirate.

Next year he starts an 8 year $11.5M contract. You think that could be moved? I like Nylander but honestly, I don't think he is worth 13% of a team's cap.

All four have an NMC. I do not think their is even a small chance that Tavares or Matthews waives to allow a trade. Nylander just extended so I do not think he will either.

Marner might if he wants to explore UFA options after this season. Lack of a new contract will diminish his trade value somewhat though.

Why would it be stupid? When are the Leafs going to learn that scoring in the regular season means nothing if you can't do it in the playoffs? I mean, sure Marner puts up regular season points, but just watching him in this series, he is completely invisible. He can't win a puck battle to save his life. I would rather have a player that puts up 70 points that can play winning playoff hockey instead of a player like Marner. I mean who would you choose to have on your team, a player like Marner or a player like Marchand?

I don't think they will want to extend him at 8 x $12m or whatever, so trading him this summer seems likely.

Who needs a player like that when you have a perennial 40-goal scorer in tippet and a talent like tk, who is the type of player you build around but do not pay more than 7.5M a year

Yes good point, in the end Tavares would never approve a trade from his childhood team.

Your description of Mitch Marner is inaccurate. Your pet phrase and fall back position is "he can't win a puck battle". Marner is one of the top 10 forwards in the entire NHL. He is a top scorer and a Selke level defensive forward. They're unlikely to get equal value back and what they need in a trade for him. Marner does score in the playoffs. He has 49 points in 54 playoff games. The player you think is better, Nylander has 40 points in 51 playoff games. The Leafs have some problems with the makeup of their team but Marner is not the issue. If they could trade him for a top #1 defenseman, I would consider it but I don't see that being available.
