Na I just don’t want to continue with the circular argument. You have your POV and I have mine.
Its all good.

I’m not blaming Sammy but where would this series be if the goalies were switched? - Canada Cup
If you had a choice this offseason to sign either to an identical contract would you have signed Swayman or Helleybuck?

You subscribe to the theory that the goalie not stopping more is why they are losing.
I subscribe to the theory of they need to score more than 2 goals if they want to win like every other team that has won a playoff game this year so far has done in every single win.
If the Leafs. had a great goalie do you actually honestly believe that the Leafs would have won games scoring 2 goals?
I mean you’re entitled to believe that but no other team is doing it this year so far so I’m not sure it makes much sense.
I’ll pile on the goaltending being the problem when they lose close games due to soft goals after they score 3 or more goals.
Until then it’s a lack of scoring to me that is the biggest issue. - Cush29
I subcribe to the theory that if we were playing against Sammy we would score more than 2 per game.

They’ve been better this series for sure. What bugs me is that I don’t think they’re a better team. - shack67
They are.
They just arent as good as they have been in the past.
Better goaltending, better D and better coaching.
I guess better forwards as well as they are outscoring our "stars". |

Did any team ever win with a below 900 save percentage? I really don’t know but even if the forwards come around we won’t win with Sammy. Even the jvr goal, would that be a goal against swayman? - shack67
Its not the goaltending.
You arent winning anything scoring 1-2 goals a game.
Nothing at all.

Every other team has some forwards that you know are going to bring it. I don’t think we have a single player that I could honestly say that about. - shack67

Every team that goes deep is usually because of a hot goalie. What we have now reminds me of the Sens and Lalime(spelling)? - shack67
A lot of teams have won a cup with goalies who are not exactly great putting up 'hot streak' type numbers. Binnington, Adin Hill, Matt Murray, Corey Crawford, Niemi, Kuemper... It goes on and on.
Every single one of them with a strong blueline in front of them, not loaded with flashy names (a couple) but deep in size, strength types who can make it tough in their own zone and defend well.
We're picking between the corpse of TJ Brodie and Liljegren. The forwards have the blueline consistently hung out to dry.
If our goaltender was stealing this series it would be just that, theft. No playoff team can expect that to be where the bar is set and be successful.
Yes, Samsonov hasn't inspired confidence. But even if he were to you'd have to think it doesn't matter when factored along with everything else.
Turns out moar grit wasn't the answer. |

Nashville went full Leafy.
Nashville guy misses a 15' backhand into an empty net to put the game away, hits the post.
Vancouver scores with 5 seconds left and wins in OT. |

A lil' snippet of what the Leafs are missing ...
“Obviously, I’m an emotional guy,” said Marchand. “This time of year, so much is run by adrenaline and emotion. That’s where the vocal part of it, in the room and on the bench, carries onto the ice. We have a lot of guys like that. Just simple reminders. I think that’s the biggest thing. We’re learning as a group of new leaders. The more we communicate together, the better games we put on the ice. We have a lot of guys right now that are stepping up. I’ve been so impressed with (Charlie) Coyle this year, the way he’s stepped up vocally. He’s never really been a vocal leader in our room. He’s taken it to a whole other level with that.”
It's not everything but Leafs need some of this ... |

They’ve sucked, I don’t deny that, but that doesn’t excuse the goalie, if anything he needs to bear down even more because he knows they’re going to have to win a low scoring game. - shack67
He's not getting paid 10m like some of those forwards are. It's not a one- off for them. |

The caps had no business being in the playoffs with a goal differential like that. I’m glad they’re gone. |

I wonder who they could get to replace him. I love someone like Doug Armstrong, George McKee, or someone thats actually had success.
