Sigh
- MbFlyerFan

No sigh needed. At the right price TK should stay and be part of the solution here. If he wants $9M or more, then it's time to trade him. But if the Flyers trade him, they are not going to get that 1C or 1D they desperately need, so will it be worth it? If TK is the best player in the trade or the player with the highest ceiling, I say no way.

Its highly likely that a trade of Konecny would fetch at least one high draft pick. So you have no idea what the return would ultimately be. A trade of Konecny is a must, if the Flyers have any sense. They don't.

He is going to get 9 million at least and 8 years. Why would he accept any less?

And They should absolutely be able to get a first round pick and a prospect. Probably a better deal then they got for Giroux because they will be dealing with 32 teams and not 1. And even if they get an identical type deal as they got for Giroux, its worth it because the alternative is paying a guy through age 36. A guy who gets hurt every season. A guy who is not that big and who will probably start breaking down in his early 30's. The Flyers simply cant do that, they have already gotten burned by the Couturier deal and they need to learn that lesson.

If by some miracle they can get him to accept even max 5 years, then maybe something can be done. But I doubt it. He sees this as his last deal. His last chance to make big money.

Fix is in. Both commissioners (NY natives) will find/orchestrate a way for their teams to make their way to and “win” the finals.

That said, Nick Nurse..see ya…next?

This is the kind of move teams only interested in making money do. Spend big on on a player who they can market and sell tickets. Winning is nice but not necessary if we’re profitable.
A team serious about winning a cup tears down and rebuilds. They don’t lie to the fans as they did this year.
And btw…having gullible fans completely ignorant how the real world works makes the con an easy sell

I almost hate to say it but if the flyers never trade for Big E I wonder what happens with the flyers with Forsberg being the big dog.

From not too long ago, Backstrom, not as tough or physical but a similar pass first guy that could control play and was strong on the walls and in corners
- ClaudeFather

Just ask ovi. Without Backstrom ovi wouldn't have the numbers that he has, imo

Why would he accept less? Because he’s nowhere near worth $9m. Konecny just put up a 35g/33a/68p season. Let’s look at a few contracts recently given out.

Tage Thompson- 7yrs $50m
cap hit=$7,142,857.
Plays a higher value position at center and is coming off 2 seasons better than Konecny has ever had. 38g/30a/68p then 47g/47a/94pts

Dylan Cozens- 7yrs $49m
cap hit=$7.1m
Cozens a wing, signed this following a 31g/37a/68p season. Basically equal to Konecny’s career peek, this year, but 4 years younger.

Nic Ehlers- 7yrs $42m
cap hit=$6m
Put up 29g/31a/60p the year he got that extension.

Troy Terry- 7yrs $49m
Cap hit=$7m
Terry put up 2 60+ point seasons leading to that extension.

Jesper Bratt- 8yrs $63m
Cap hit=$7.875m
Bratt was coming off two 70+pt seasons, something Konecny has never done.

Based on these deals, Konecny’s value is somewhere between $6.5-7m. At 27 years old he could definitely still get a 7-8yr deal.

Have to understand the NHL salary structure. They're all RFA players. As far as recently given out. Ehlers signed his deal in 2017. It's 2024. Konency has UFA leverage. None of those deals are comparables for Konecny. Konecny and his agent would laugh at a 6.5-7M offer.

Minimum, absolute minimum, TK gets 8 years at an 8.5 million aav.

The smart move, by far, is to deal him at the upcoming draft. They have more young depth, Tippett, Foerster, Michkov, at RW than any other position.

Signing TK to an extension would be idiotic.

Well, I do wonder what would have happened if Clarke signed Joseph instead of Beezer in goal. Forsberg had Roy, which was pretty good.

It was a weird time in Flyers history. They did not mind spending the money to improve the team, except in goal. There was no salary cap. The rumor was Clarke spoke with Tretiak (all time great Russisn goalie) and he told Clarke the team makes a great goalie, not a great goalie makes the team. No idea if true, but remember the story being told publically.
