Savard won't be moved next season.

Why?

Because he'll be too important to move while we're in the playoffs race.

I agree about Savard, but I wouldn't mind if he stayed either, especially if Matheson is traded. you need guys like him, strong leadership at a decent salary to support the younger guys on the backend. next year sounds a bit too soon to get rid of that imho.
- Pat1993

Oh, I'm in no rush to trade him either ... I only mentionned this in the context of us trading any RHD's. He's definitively a valuable player (shot blocking machine).

However, if some offers come before next year's playoff trade deadline then we need to listen.

in all honesty though, I think it's safe to say Zegras has way more offensive upside lol...

I think we said the same about Drouin...

In all honesty, I do nto question his talent. I question his ability to be motivated and engaged, plus I read he seems more of a perimeter type player / questionable defensively.

If the Habs are going to give up top prospects / picks, I'd want someone more engaged - physically and mentally. I know, easy to say but hard to make happen.

We wil see what happens in the next 8 weeks or so.

I could play devil's advocate and say that, at the time of the trade, everything pointed to Drouin being a very skilled player. It didn't turn out too well for us (especially since the guy we gave up was so (frank)ing good) but it didn't look that bad at first.

Biggest difference for me is the context. Zegras wouldn't come here to be our most important piece moving forward, he'd just be a very talented offensive talent joining a developing core.

The more I talk about Zegras, the more I want him.

agreed, if they can draft a forward with size and grit at #5... go for it.
then see what you can get for the late 1st, Barron, Harris and all the others.
I'd keep Mailloux and Reinbacher obviously.

Yep ... never underestimate the value of "sandpaper" in the playoffs.

EDIT: The Maple Leafs are a cautionary tale in this regard, they have a ton of "soft" talent up front that works well in the regular season but in the playoffs it's another story ...

with Caufield and Hutson... that's enough. they need to add size & grit.
like a lot of it.
that's why Mailloux and Reinbacher are pretty much untradable imo.

Agreed 100% ... good RHD's are amongst the hardest players to get, you need to draft them.

Trading for them usually costs an arm and a leg and most teams don't want to part with them for good reason.

EDIT: I would add Newhook to our list of small players.

Yes. Faire enough. I'm convinced. They need to find a trade partner that need a LHD. Does NJ need one? I dont dislike that Mercer kid.

the problem is that our dmen we are ready to trade have zero value. the ones we want to keep do.
so what to do?
you wait. you let the kids play and raise their value. that means some will be in Laval in the meanwhile.

that's why I don't think Zegras is a realistic target, cost is too high for the assets we have to trade. HuGo will target someone with a lower acquisition cost, a better fit for a trade from MTL point of view (right assets going BOTH ways)

Funny, same 3 series for me as well ... but mostly the Florida series as I think the Panthers are winning it all this year.
