Nothing to do with our 1st. That's likely gone to SJ depending on the lottery.

Pretty sure we need the Canes to make the finals....the Philly 2nd upgrades to the Canes 1st. If they win it all, we get an extra 5th. Go Canes.

Oh that's it. Thanks. Let's go Canes

Guentzel has 1 fake goal in the easiest series he’s going to play. Just worry about your team.

I'd be thrilled to see the Penguins get our 1st rounder.

I could totally see Ned having a stinker season next season, wherever he is. Happens a lot. Goalie position is very fickle. There really haven't been THAT many goalies in the history of the game to be stellar pretty much every season of their career....and of the ones that were quite a few played for a team with very stingy D structures and systems...the Pens are not that haha
- MattStrat

Sure makes me appreciate what Fleury did for the bulk of his career behind our defensive structure. His lows weren't near as bad as most other goalies nor near as frequent.

Agree on Ned, he's gotten way overrated here. I would not be comfortable with him as the starter (not really Jarry either). Got to hope Blomquist is up to the task since that seems to be the route they are taking.

What’s Poulins game though? Like he got called up, purposely went after Eric freaking Gudbranson with a bunch of cross checks, Then turned down Gudbranson’s invitation to dance got lit up and took a penalty all in the same shift. Is he a scorer? Is he tough? I’m all about giving young guys a shot and having some cap flexibility but not quite sure what Poulin’s angle to the NHL is. Three guys I mentioned have been Offensively gifted players their whole lives, put them with players that can help them with offense.
- Grinder47

Yager is a clearly better offensive player than Poulin. Koivunen maybe, just broke out and needs to prove he can play the North American game.

Ponomarev? He's played in all the same leagues as Poulin and Poulin's numbers are far superior. I wouldn't expect him to be a top 6 if you think Poulin is a bust. Also disingenuous to say Poulin hasn't also been a scorer at every level he's played, but that's to be expected of you.

Not sure if Ned is overrated on here. I think he's less talented than Jarry but integrated over a full season he'll give you roughly the same impact as Jarry at about half the price, hence I'd prefer him over Jarry. (That doesn't mean I think we'd be in a good spot with a Ned-Blomquist tandem, but at least it'd be cheaper.)

Debrusk having a solid post season might have increased the odds of him resigning in Boston. Or priced himself out of Pittsburgh
- drummer829

I feel like if Dubas decided Debrusk is his guy, he will get him regardless of price. He seems to just lock into guys he wants and makes sure he gets them.

I like Debrusk, he would be a nice top 9 fit at the right price and if we can trade Smith.

He doesn’t seem like he has the foot speed to hack it dude. He looked like the fat kid on the ice.

Seems like a lot to give up for a player in the assistance program (namely the 1st round pick).

Same skating questions for Ponomarev and Koivunen. Koivunen didn't look like he could skate in the AHL last year. Poulin I take the hockey sense.

I think the Canes guys are the shiny new toys and Poulin has been around for a while, but there are reasons they were tradable.

Hallander and Bjorkqvist? I don't think they're even interested in playing in North America again.

His whole attitude that one shift soured him to me. Just didn’t seem like a guy fully invested in making an NHL career for himself.

Trading for Laine has all the makings to be as disastrous as the EK trade. Unless it’s like a 2nd round pick.

Which is the actual argument you want to make. Saying those guys put up superior offensive numbers or don't have skating questions is false.

I don't think the other guys are tougher though if that's what you want. Poulin at least fought Garrett Wilson this year for running a teammate.

For the record, I highly doubt Poulin's a top 6 guy. I'd pick Poulin over Ponomarev though. Ponomarev is definitely bottom six and I'd be tempted to cap at 4C. He's a pretty vanilla defense first center. Koivunen hopefully is a top 6 or middle six scorer, but I got serious questions on him as well.

Yager is really the only prospect I see as a top 6. I will get behind Koivunen though if he can prove he can thrive in the AHL

I should have stuck to: this is why these prospects won't replace Guentzel.

lol.

I talked myself into the Finn pretty quickly after the trade. Definitely not a franchise star but maybe someone that can contribute in the top six if he adjusts to American ice. The Russian seems like a fun 4C maybe.

Hope Pimp Lucious gets a cup of coffee at some point just for the name

I’ve never mentioned anything about AHL numbers at all. My argument is if any of these guys make the team it shouldn’t be on the 4th line. Go sign guys that can handle the rigors of being a 4th liner. The youth movement needs to happen in the top six.
