I don't know.

I don't get that impression but I wouldn't be against moving his deal out. Maybe he would be cool to go back home to Calgary.

Does he want to be part of a long rebuild? You would think he would want to chase a cup while in his prime if offered.

if he wanted a cup why re-sign?

You don't have to move and you get a buttload of money. Sounds great to me.

He didn't say anything that wasn't true, tho.

Frosty handled all the BS with class at the beginning of the season. Then he produced when he was given a chance and had himself a nice year all things considered. And he handled the benching in the final game w/ class too.

For his sake I hope he gets away from Torts

- Tomahawk

you have to think DB was honest with Torts on that, I mean he sat Frost when they needed a goal, put the muckers out and didn't even get close to getting a goal. Year ends Frost is a plus player and the guys he sends out are not.

Yeah, he really handled the benching in the final game with class? He was smiling on the bench! WTF! A competitive player would have been pissed off, but good ole Frosty already had his tee times setup for the next morning. I hope he gets outta here too, but for different reasons than you. Thanks!

Its a coaches job to manage his players. Its no different than a goalie. Of course the goalie wants to play every game but as a coach you need to weigh that against wearing him out. Torts could have done that but those not to. Saying he doesn't have a crystal ball is just silly.
- MBFlyerfan

i think a lot of guys get banged up during the season but play through it in their normal role. with Coots, he got banged up after playing really well in the first half and then had his ice time and role reduced. to me, that's managing his player.

whereas other players in the league don't have that happen to them. if he came out the gate looking like he couldn't keep up then I'd agree. But we all watched him and saw he was playing well and helping the team. we are not in a playoff spot near the end of the year without him. so what good does "saving" him do?

perhaps they make adjustments next season after seeing when the play started dropping off - but without this season's data of letting him play, we'd never know what's too much or too little. he didn't have those 5 injuries briere mentioned to start the season. he was healthy. you play healthy star players. it would be incompetence NOT to reduce his minutes when they did if he was really that banged up in the second half/toward the end. they played him the way he should have been played at the start and played him the way he should have been played near the end IMO. maybe they get some center help in the offseason but this was the team they had on the ice and i don't think letting your healthy star player actually play when he was healthy is this horrible move that everyone makes it out to be.

I do not lap up what he says. I thought it unprofessional to skip out and make Shaw do post games, I found it maddening to keep throwing Atkinson and ND out there. It made me mad that he played Stall over the younger D. How he threw Sandstorm under the buy pissed me off.

But did Coots ever come out and say I am sucking right now and should maybe sit. No and he never will, that is the coaches job.

Everyone acts like it was all Torts, when it really is the coach and players fault. But no, it was all Torts.

If DB would come out and say Torts is coming back, I would be fine. But since i don't have the hate like some do for torts, I am just a lap dog.

So Torts is too tough on the players, but it's a CC environment according to you? Make up your friggin mind!

How dare he laugh at an absurd circumstance created by a coach that clearly dislikes him?

Can't wait til he is traded and the Flyers continue to be an 80 point team for another decade. At least they are "noticable" out there.

No matter what was said, actions will speak louder than any words today.

I think it will be a mistake to move Frost and Farabee this offseason.

I think it would be an error not to look to move Laughton and Konecny.

- J35Bacher

Fine with this.

Any buyouts would be stupid. Send them to Lehigh if you can't move them in a trade. They need to move some contracts and money out and try to weaponize cap space.
- J35Bacher

This does not make sense. Even if Atkinson, Johansen and Petersen are banished to the AHL, they will still eat up $11.4 million in cap space as well as three roster spots (the Flyers are at 49/50 currently). Add in the TDA buyout and Hayes retention in that scenario and you're losing $16.7 million in cap space for 2024-25. If any of those three remain on the NHL roster (as healthy scratches or whatever), you can add in $1.15 million more per player. It's going to be hard to weaponize cap space if there is none, and trading any of those three is going to be impossible without giving up assets or taking back a bad contract. Add in having less (or no) available contracts to sign prospects, the likelihood of those players taking playing time from young guys, and the negative effect of having a guy like Atkinson sit all the time and it's pretty much a losing scenario all the way around.

Johansen was acquired with a buyout as his ultimate fate if no one picked him up on waivers (which was the case). If he can be bought out (i.e. he's not still injured at buyout time), he will be.

Petersen will stick around as the Phantoms backup goalie and the Flyers will continue to eat his $3.85 million cap hit and let him go after Bjarnason is old enough to play in the AHL (which won't be until the 2025-26 season).

The only real question here is what to do with Atkinson. Perhaps another team would take a chance on him at 50% retention. Considering how precipitously he declined, it's not likely without even more sweetener.

I am ok with Ersson/Fedotov in Philly and Koslov getting majority of the time in LH.
- J35Bacher

Also fine with this. Kolosov is young (22) and likely to only get better.

Right! Moving such a valuable player as Frost is gonna doom this team to 80 point seasons for the next decade.

Hopefully he fetches a nice package back. I was starting to warm tp him, but I thought he disappeared when they needed him the most and he looked disengaged in that Caps game before he was benched. I don't care if he stays or goes, but he needs to look to shoot more. He NEVER even looks at the net and even when he has prime scoring chances he looks to pass the puck.

I'm not trying to spin it. He wasn't laughing at the stupid lineup. He was casually smiling like he was ready for his summer to begin the next day as he sat on the bench. Who knows? If he actually gets pissed off and gets in Torts' face he may have gotten back into the game.

Is Tortorella or Clarke a more gentle lover?

Imagine defending a sack of poop country club organization so obsessed with its past, and its alumni - to be willing to take a bullet for such incompetence.

Sounds like everything went to script this morning.

Did any of the beats not soil themselves and ask about Risto? Or how they plan on acquiring elite talent? Or how the coach is a complete dope?

Again, are they a country club organization or is Torts too tough on his players? I can't believe folks are still talking about Clarke on here.
