I honestly thought Matthews was gonna get 71 or 72 with the Lightning's AHL goalie between the pipes. The Lightning did their part to help by sitting Vasi. I'm not sure it would have mattered who his wingman was in that game. He was firing at will and struck iron. It just wasn't meant to be.

He came so close and the one play where he hit the cross bar in game 82 would have been such a great goal in general never mind if it was the 70th but as you said it just wasn't meant to be.
