Even if one time they didn’t meet with philly doesn’t mean the representatives shunned them. Maybe they were busy. They had a history of meeting with philly outside of maybe one time. Hardly shunning them.

Too busy to have a meeting with the team that holds the rights to a high value client? Doubtful.

The reality is that the Flyers were 6 games under .500 and finished 4 spots higher in the standings this year then last. What exactly was accomplished. Can anyone honestly say that this team took a step forward to becoming a legit contender?
- MJL

💯. I echoed this during their winless skid.

Led to be believe this is a rebuilding year. Wrong.

Then the goal was playoffs. Failed.

Minor accomplishments on some guys like Forester but big picture, no.

Of course they have a right to talk to the player they own the draft rights to. They're not dissing his agent by bypassing him when his agent refuses to talk to the Flyers.
- MJL

They have no right to talk to him when he has representation. None of us were there. If his agent says he doesn’t want to talk because his mind is made up. It’s over at that point. Sending out your proxies is highly unprofessional and insulting.

How has it hurt the Flyers position in the future? Please be specific.
- jd250

The team is in the worst position an NHL team can be in. A playoff bubble team, not making the playoffs. Not close to being good enough to contend and too good to get a high level draft pick unless they get lucky in the lottery. They should've been fully committed to the rebuild and playing young players and let the chips fall where they may. They weren't.

Torts will be back, but I think the team will look very different. My hope is next year they will be younger and as a result I expect the Flyers to not make the playoffs next season either, perhaps finishing even lower in the standings. One thing the Flyers must do (it's really a non negotiable for me) is to hire a Power Play coach. They just need an average PP at this point.
- jd250

how will it look very different. They will pretty much run back the same roster unless trades or FA signings.

What guys in the system will make the team to get younger?

That's not correct. There is no rule in the CBA or the NHL bylaws that says that an NHL team has no right to talk directly to a player they hold the draft rights to. Ordinarily, you would go through the agent but with the agent being unwilling to talk to the Flyers after Gauthier told them he wouldn't sign. They had every right to seek direct contact. They aren't proxies. They're representatives of the team.

Let's see.

Sign Konecny to long term big deal(terrible)
keep Laughton(blah)
Still have to keep Deslaurier, Atkinson, Ristolianen(blah)

Agree. Not seeing ho much can change unless they get BALLS...and make moves that might be unpopular but are needed.

Simple - I don't believe everything FS says. It was giving perspective they may have had an offer. No one knows if it really happened or not. The Flyers fall in LOVE with their own players and Laughts is one of them. You don't know the truth and I don't know the truth... Not really hard to understand. If they were offered a 1st and a 2nd DB failed.
- Flyfly

No it's "not hard to understand" as you always say Rinaldo. You're talking out both side of your mouth as usual.

Also not unusual for players to be completely focused on the ice during big career-defining tournament, shutting everything else out.

We see players refuse to negotiate contracts during the season for the same reason. It's a huge distraction.

The Flyers trying to force a face to face during the WJC was desperate.

drafting in the 12-15 range will rarely get you high-end talent. Instead of resigning rp, extending ns, not trading sl the team over achieved and lost a chance at actually drafting high end talent.

but you nose is so far up torts ass you tickle his prostate so you would not know or understand any of this

- corduroy

There is no high end talent in this draft, at least no obvious high end talent. Resigning RP and extending NS had absolutely nothing to do with the Flyers draft position this year.

We are still spending time talking about a winger who wasn't even the best player on his BC team?

You have the gist of it correct in why he ultimately didn't sign but that information and his reaction was not present when he wanted to sign in March of 23. All of that happened after that and the Flyers said no. The Flyers screwed up and should've signed him at that point.

There’s still time. Draft will be very telling. And beginning free agency. And tk extension.

These will tell the whole story

provide a link where friedman said this or any other sources.

so in this instance you take the flyers word when almost every other tie you think they are liars.

- hello it's me 2050

He wouldn't be able to. Because there is'n't any such direct refutation or anything remotely similar.

Don't you understand? The entire objective is to keep on arguing. Just like the Flyers: it is to keep on saying we are rebuilding/doing what it takes/cap team etc. etc.

Just saw Flyers signed Rizzo? That’s good.
- mikeyo27

Very, because they add a young player with potential to the AHL roster and it will shake off the bad smell from Cutter in the minds of the fans for a few months at least.

Jagr was never the best player on the Pens but if you had put him on the Flyers from the start he would have easily been the greatest player in franchise history.

So that's not really a logical way of gauging a guy's potential/worth.

Not just WJC. They sent LeClair and Sharp to watch a BC game and then talk iirc?

Don’t agree with this at all. But don’t blame the player for refusing meeting. It’s his right under cba.

Neither in of itself is unprofessional under cba. It’s their rights. Both sides.

Unfortunately there really isn’t a lot of young players that are worth a look. I think Andrae might be the only one. If they plan on slow cooking their prospects, the Flyers are going to go through two seasons of adding a guy here and there.

If that is the case or some form of it then Philly would smartly tell him enjoy the 4 years of college. Take the risk and losses of earnings.

If he chooses to do that it’s well within his rights under the cba. And nothing Philly can do about it.

But there’s a reason no top 5 pick would do that in today’s economic nhl. You are correct that cg played a game of chicken. And he won. Because Philly as a whole has too many old school front office voices. As spewed by their he doesn’t want to be here we don’t want him narrative.

It’s immature unprofessional and down right stupid what Philly did.

That's called cutting your nose to spite your face. As word gets out, good luck recouping value for a star player who you have to trade. Good luck with the constant barrage of publicity about the situation. And if no trade, good luck with that 2nd.
