If the Flyers are truly rebuilding, why should they buy out all 3 players and extend the cap hits? If they're truly rebuilding, why do they need the cap space that buyouts would give initially. If they're truly rebuilding, they should do the opposite. Let the contracts ride out and be completely done with them after next season. Bury all 3 in the AHL.

Happened in Chicago this weekend too. Nazar signed his ELC, will maybe get 2 games, and 1st year is done. GM's willing to do it, because they want to make the top prospects happy, and get them under contract.

It makes so much sense as an extra bargaining chip for the team or motivationfor the player.

I would think that Danielson and TK would be the basis for the trade, but additions and tweeks would need to happen.

Maybe in other sports but it has not been that way in hockey, at least not at the level of other major sports. But time’s are changing and not for the better. In the end we are not even sure if this was the reason Quitter decided he didn’t want to play for the Flyers so is not worth speculating. It might have been Torts.

Maybe some GMs learned from the Cutter situation. It’s always a risk when dealing with the whims of an 18 y/o. Not sure, but I think the NBA requires a year of college or a professional league. That may be a better model. A year makes a difference at that age.

There inclusions were SLC, Phoenix (again), Houston, Atlanta (again) and another team not yet identified. I think Buttman and the powers to be may just be losing their collective minds.

This is nothing new and has been going on for at least a decade, Players and G's figureout loopholes.

Most GM's are happy their top prospects are wanting to sign with them, and don't care about the 1 year they lose. They still own the rights, and can get to locking them up long term sooner. It's not like the one year is going to free the player up. If they are an elite or top prospect, the management team is going to want to sign their top players to max contracts...it's the way it is.

But nothing precedent setting about this whole situation, next to the team going public and saying what they did with Gauthier. The fuqked up, they lost the player due to their own arrogance, and they public blamed te player for it. They should have just traded the player, said they wanted Drysdale, and moved on.

Vegas entered the league in 2017 and paid a 500M expansion fee. In 2021, Seattle entered and payed 650M. What is the price now? I'll give you a little bit of time to think about it.

Back in the olden days there was a constant parade of stars holding out (sometimes for entire seasons) to extract more money or force trades. Messier, Coffee, Dryden, Peca, Yashin, Stevens, Bure, #88, etc.

Then you had team leaders like Fedorov, Tkachuk and Sakic who signed offer sheets to force their own teams to ante up.

It actually seems like there's less labor strife these days w/ the salary cap. Occasionally get a Nylander or a Cutter, but mostly guys just show up and play.
