My "eye test" tells me Atkinson is trying his ass off. I dont question his effort one bit. In fact Ive never seen a guy trying harder and accomplishing so little as I have from Atkinson.
Unfortunately Torts values "try hard" a little disproportionally imo. As does the organ Ization. |

Because Tortorella keeps playing hunches Cam will step up. The will is there. But he looks cooked, sadly. - bmeltzer
It’s such BS. Lycksell consistently goes out and shows he belongs in the lineup and needs to be given more opportunity. |

That first paragraph are my exact thoughts watching him. I think because he’s so small it just appears that way.

And Lycksell was scratched yesterday right? What business does Atkinson have being in the lineup over him? Joke - Just5 Atkinson is deadman skating. He literally skated himself into the boards yesterday and fell down at one point. Although on a positive note he took that ridiculously bad penalty that led to the shorty for TK!

Morning Bill. Few questions.
1. Do you see Rocky being retained to coach the PP next season? If not any idea who they may look at to bring in?
2. Do you see "lappy" being back as LHV head coach?
3. Does Rizzo sign with the flyers?
4. Do you see the flyers rolling witrh Sam/Ivan next season or will a vet goalie be brought in? - hello it's me 2050
Trust me when I say his guess is as good as yours 😆 |

I don’t want to see it either but I think it’s likely. Don’t see the Flyers losing at home to the Caps and also don’t see the other bad teams that didn’t take advantage of the Flyers losing previously in the season all of the sudden string wins together.
As for Hilferty, he is of the same cloth as Dave Scott. Just different personalities and approaches to accomplishing same goal. - StepfordSam
You have now 3 regimes: Hextall/CF /Briere. Each of the first two have ended in ignominious departures. Usually when you have ignominious departures, you have very visible changes in philosophy. But these names have come and some have gone, and yet you see only minor changes in approach.
Always signing young good players to that 2nd/3rd contract, even if they are not needle movers
Vague talk about rebuilding
Signing enough vets to keep the team competitive
Who is to blame. Can't be the old guard. Hextall fought with the old guard. He did largely the same as the above.

Sadly, he’s been in marked decline for 4 years. I remember wishing he was on my team in 2017 when Columbus had a 14 game winning streak(ended at 16). They were playing the Wild who had 12 in a row. Columbus won and Cam was a beast that day.

Cam seems like a really nice and genuine guy but when he tripped head first in to the boards all I could think of is “that’s why good players should know when to hang em up” and his time has come. Maybe he can get buried with the Phantoms next year and be a mentor. Please don’t buy him out and waste more money.

Yea Cam, all efforts but his feet can’t catch up with hands, only hope is if he is trying to hard and the Cam from the first 20 games comes back in some form. Confidence is an amazing thing, but he looks cooked.
While not a fan of Johnson, he short circuits plays on the reg, but he plays a hard game, vs bigger teams eh
So do I have this right, caps need to lose out the other 2 teams need to go 1-1 and we need to be 1-0 |

Some previous posts about Rockey/PP and Torts’ hunches and OT strategy. Hindsight is 20/20 but we all saw this much earlier in the season.
1) The PP has been inept all year yet nothing was ever seemingly done to address it. Madness. Off puck, the players look like orange traffic cones out there. Been that way all year. Did they not watch film and practice the PP?
2) OT is for winning. The consolation prize is already guaranteed in OT. Playing it conservatively makes zero sense. Play OT to score first, not to be not scored against. Again, puzzling that that’s how the coach seemed to approach it all year.
3) Still baffled by the acquisition of Johnson, the playing of Cam at all in the second half of the season, the overuse of Couturier, the calling up then sitting players like Attard, Ginning, Lyksell. All are head scratchers.
Those are the reasons in my humble opinion as to why this team is on the outside looking in right now. A few more PP goals, a couple more OT wins instead of losses, and maybe a little less Cam/Johnson and a little bit more younger guys with more energy and maybe there’s a little bit more in the tank.
That being said, theee are a lot of positives to take out of this year:
York looks like the real deal if he can co time to develop;
Foerester is an NHL goal scorer with 30-40 goal potential;
Lyksell can be a really good bottom 6;
Frost belongs in the NHL as a middle 6;
Tippett can fly and has 40 goal potential;
Brink, Attard, Ginning, and Zemula have earned the right to have a legit shot to be regulars next year. If Ginning and Attard stick around we could do a lot worse than those two as our 3rd pairing.
Ersson is an NHL goalie. Is he a 1, 1A or backup? Unsure but the kid has skill.

No. Flyers have already clinched the tiebreaker. Detroit has to lose one of two against Montreal in regulation. |
