Drysdale & Seeler a combined ➖️ 11! 6 & 5. Staal & Johnson even steven versus Habs. 🤔🤨
- THE EVIL WITHIN

lol i remember someone prior saying "i'm interested in seeing a Drysdale/Seeler pairing" and I think I agreed with them.

I hope the “ triumvirate” addresses these issues at the end of season press conference. They all need to be clear to the fan base on how they assess this past season and what year 2 of the rebuild will look like.
This can’t all be blamed on a coach again and add more years to have a chance to be a contending team!

- Hosher12

We already know how they'll asses the this past season. Mostly positive and they'll blow more smoke at us. It's never all on the coach but this organization has definitely added more years to have the chance. I knew that early last season in the same way I knew it under Fletcher early. Honestly, it's not hard to see.

Any year in a rebuild that doesn't result in at least one elite young player joining either thru the draft or some other means is a wasted year.

Jury's out on Drysdale.

I would just add potential to that. I don't have any faith at all that this franchise is going to be willing to go backwards. I think they're going to think they're getting closer and look to add. I hope I'm wrong.

i understand the sentiment but that might be a little unrealistic for any franchise

So unimpressed with the kid. Poor instincts in both zones. Skates well. Gets overpowered in the corners. wtf kind of trade was that is what I’m thinking watching him

That's not accurate. The kid has missed a ton of hockey and has been in and out. It is unreasonable at this point in time to make any definitive assessment on him as a player. He is raw but the talent is there.

i'm genuinely curious if anyone has examples of a player going through a handful of injuries very early on in their career and growing into a solid, long-term NHLer.

i'm not saying it will or will not happen. but does anyone have any names that come to mind?

Any word on who is coaching the Flyers tonight? Torts has a history of bailing on the team after it is out of the playoffs (and getting praised for it by the brass).

His reasoning from last year when he sat in the press box instead of behind the bench:

“I think I have (a) responsibility to my coaching staff, (to) help them develop,” he explained on Saturday morning. “I think we’re all trying to develop, just like the players are, I think, in these type of situations.”

Can you imagine any other coach sitting in the pressbox for multiple games and getting away with it?

- Flyers_01

The Athletic mentioned that it was very explicitly at Danny Briere's behest last year. Not out of choice. It was dicussed here too.

Maybe there weren't many takers for Cutter's BS? He had a list of 20 teams and this is what was offered.

Didn’t the judge ask for his autograph? Everything in the trial was a circus.

Mind you, the whole Couturier thing hadn't gone over well. Back in November, when things were going well for the team and for Couturier individually, Charlie O'Connor asked Tortorella about load management for Couturier, playing 20 mins a night almost every game. Tortorella said he was aware of it but basically, the games were dictating that Couturier play all the minutes he could handle.

- bmeltzer

Also, Couturier went out of his way to temper the perception of Torts as a hardass in that article. He said he had mellowed, and there was a difference between perception and current reality and he was more forgiving with younger players etc.

And he was rewarded for his discretion and loyalty...

Had no choice, in my opinion.
...

That doesn't take the things he's done well. I also don't think there's an open revolt against the coach in the room. BUT I do think he's damaged his hold and that none of this was productive or necessary.

Just my take.

- bmeltzer

This may be a silly comparison but he's more old school bootcamp drill instructor rather than the one you want leading you up the hill.

He's good at getting you in shape and beating down your ego but instead of handing you off to someone who thinks about long-term goals and strategy, every single day is boot camp and nobody can survive that.

There's no indication that he's ever thought more than 24 hours ahead with the players (ie. overusing Coots was bad long-term, running players into the ground is bad long-term). There's no evolution in his coaching.

What we do know is that as far back as 2020 he's wanted, badly, to move up to a front office role. His tenure with the Flyers only reinforces that with him basically ousting Fletcher and becoming the unofficial GM.

Yeah, I'm sure he's lost some respect inside the room and within the org with the way he's behaved.

But like you said, it's not at mutiny/quit level yet.

It seems he's burning his own tenure at both ends too... he'd better get upstairs before the team mutinies/quits on him for real, or the rest of the triumvirate grows tired of his theatrics.

- Tomahawk

But he didn't say that though. He said it was not at the stage where there was open mutiny, a la Bill Barber. Mutiny, open or covert, is not synonymous with quitting.

The Eagles quit last year. Players did their own thing. They freelanced. They improvised. They ignored what the coaches told them.

No one however badmouthed the coaches.

The presser is written already. Just need average goaltending and PP and we're right there. Don't forget about staying healthy.

Playoffs is the goal next season for them. 💯

Remember when the Flyers finally said "rebuild" and when questioned about it, Coots said that's not what he signed up for.
- WhiskeyMan

Flyers are paying a 4C almost $8M a year until he hits SS. No way they will be able to contend without first rebuilding. If he is unhappy, he is more than welcome to voluntarily terminate his contract so he could play for a contender. Think he will get $8M per year for the next 6 years?

I was watching the OJ Bronco chase live when that Baba Booey prank call happened. That was amazing. The call was so ridiculous and hard to believe how long they let it go on. I listened to a lot of Stern back then and it was obvious to me what was happening.

I was watching a Bulls game (I think, definitely NBA) with some buddies. We were so (frank)ing pissed that they kept showing this stupid boring car going down the highway.

What would fans be satisfied with for a ceiling? A prime Keith Yandle with better defense and giving the team 5-7 years as a PP qb?

The Flyers have gone from 29th to 26th to (currently) 21st. If they keep this up, they will be top of the league in another five years.

No, but it wouldn’t have been surprising if he had. Ito was an egomaniac as well as being incompetent. He should have never televised the trial. Going on entertainment shows was embarrassing. He had already outed himself as incompetent in the S and L debacle trial.
