Well, they have been severely lacking in center depth for years. I agree by itself the pick did not destroy them. Do they sign Hayes in free agency if Patrick is not a bust? However, a #2 overall pick should be part of the foundation. The teams around the Flyers in the top 5 all acquired foundational pieces of the team. Funny thing is the first 2 picks were the worst of the top 5. Just a huge swing and miss.

I wanted miro…. Was at the draft in Chicago. My whole thing has always been if you get gift and move from 13-2 you swing for the fences. If you strikeout no one is gonna blame you. The potential on Petterson ceiling was much higher than nopa but floor was projected lower and bigger risk. Miro and makar were risk too. They played it safe. Which I’ll never understand with the gift they were given. Now if they sucked and had truly been bottom 2 team I can see them playing it safe but you swing with what was given them

If you strikeout with the #2 pick, whether you swing for the fences or not. You're going to get blamed.

I just don’t think the flyers did their due diligence on Patrick. I want a rink rat that hates to lose almost more than winning. Someone that wants to dominate. If the player puts in the time to better themselves and they do not reach their ceiling then fine.
I don’t know Patrick and could be off base but he didn’t seem like that kind of guy. He had size and I think that helped him in juniors so he got by. In the NHL there are a lot of guys looking to take you down a few notches. Lindros was big and had a mean streak and guys went after him hard.
Patrick not working out hurt the team for sure.

It was all the migraine issues and it affected him mentally. If he was healthy, in my opinion he would've been a pretty good player. Maybe not a star but a pretty good player.
