who do you want to see the flyers hire as the next coach?
- hello it's me 2050

Nobody from the boys club or ex Flyers….because guys like Brindamour, Tocchet and Berube, Jim Montgomery are not the answer.

What do you want the next coach to do?

A: Win as many games as possible in the current year.
B: Develop young players for the long term.
C: Distract the fanbase with antics to keep them entertained and distracted.
D: Win the Stanley cup.

Before you can decide who you want, you have to decide what you want your coach to do. Some of the choices are mutually exclusive but some aren't and to be honest, no matter who the next coach is, the construction of the team will not allow them to win a Stanley cup.

To me Torts is a combination of A and C.

The Stanley cup is not a next year or even a next coach thing at this point.

Just my 2 cents.

An argument can be made for “B” as well.

BrindAmour would be a great hire. Carolina have been paying him a pittance, so I can see him coming back to Philly.

Does torts get the axe?
- twotoekenn

I would think both DB and Jonesy would see that as a step backwards….but I do wonder if Torts has had enough?

The Buzz words will be a plentiful. But a lot of these guys that have floundered will have now been under Torts for two full years. To me DB and company know and see what we all do. They simply need better players. How they go about it is anyone’s guess, but there are holes that need to be filled….a lot of holes.
- landros 2

that's the rub. They don't want to do the right thing, they want to re-tool with a roster that hasnt been good in years.

amazes me how incompetent they continue to be.

Everyone wanted the Flyers to have a top 10 pick. The only thing that is preventing that to happen is the play of 3 teams, NJ, Seattle and Calgary.

you dont think he knows this is a total schit show? now if it is about the money then maybe, otherwise he is smart enough to stay away.

He’s due a nice contract….we’ll see how their playoffs go, that might be the decider if they finally pay him.

He hasn't won anything with the talent he has now so why not build a team under his vision.

5 x $5,000,000 should do the trick.

They have extra cash starting next season because AV's deal will be done.

I can see your argument but I attribute most of the improvement to the young players getting playing time that they didn't get in the past, mainly because the Flyers had vets on the team. There are also more ways of coaching players than publicly shaming them until they come to you to find out what you want them to do better rather than communicating with them.

If the Flyers had more vets available to play, I guarantee you Torts would be playing as few young guys as possible.

I’m not saying you are wrong….I think this is a big off season for this club. I’m still on the fence as DB has only been on the job for a year…as we’ve discussed it’s a mixed bag so far.

So would Jim Montgomery who is obviously going nowhere but two of the best 5 coaches in the NHL.

well, lose out it is, hope this puts them in full rebuild mode. This team could not lose Walker, have Tk playing the way he is, Coots fall back and have goaltending issues, they ran out of magic tricks. Could be a blessing in disguise, hope they move Laughton, package up some others and reshape the franchise. If they can get a lucky lottery bounce, all the better.

The top 4 on the blueline is seemingly set next season, I wonder if they trade Zamula in the summer. He will be an RFA, and eventually Seeler would move down to the 3rd pair left side-which Zamula currently plays.

Finally, the mystery of Risto continues. Will he play again?

Nothin is given with Torts. Guys earn their ice. It’s not always about the best 18 skaters ….it’s about each individual and how and if there’s more to give from that guy…no one can tell me that Coots at anytime was not one of the best 18 ….it’s that Torts saw him far below what he perceived as Coots ceiling if that makes sense. I’m with ya….I would prefer a younger roster for the most part. I have liked the emergence of York this year…I’ve liked the changes a guy like Sanheim has made to his game. Foerster has really played well and Tippet continues to grow.
I continue to see Frost as a talented but extremely inconsistent…same for Farabee.

he is one of the best coaches in the NHL. *IF he were to become available it would be foolish not to hire the guy.

yes I say hire him, but i was replying to the notion he would not come here because of the talent. If he can't win it this year I think it it time for him to move on. I can see Pittsburg going after him.

pretty sure many know what direction they will likely take. Look to sign a top end dman and/ or center. Or acquire via trade. They may also now have to get a goalie which they may have not anticipated.

they will look to move forward. not backwards as some have said.

IMO, if they let him go to Pitt it would be another failure in a long line of failures by the Flyers.

Torts is probably at his half-life in terms of coaching the Flyers. If Brindy became available Jonesy and GMDB need to move to hire him immediately.

Will that happen? I doubt it b/c I think the brass still love Torts.
