They still need an elite center and a clear 1D.
- mikeyo27

And an elite #1 goalie.

So basically the three hardest things to find haha.

That’s not true. People were 100 percent saying that there was no need to keep hart with how Ersson was playing. What people apparently didn’t notice is that both tenders were playing well in the rotation. Now hart is gone and it’s been a scramble because we’ve had to play Ersson so much. What I will add is that we shouldn’t be too fast to write Ersson off here. I know some people have said, they’re done with him. It’s his first full year for gods sake. Flyers fans are too quick to throw goalies under the bus for all the teams problems. It’s not always entirely on the goalie.
- Hextall271

Not sure I agree. At least in my case. I wanted them to get assets for Hart because I didn't think a new contract fit the timeline of the rebuild. Ersson being here was incidental, at least to me.

On a side note, I just think Ers is being worn down like the rest of the team. The team IMO saw Torts use up Couturier, and when he started to falter, Torts threw him under the bus like a sack of used pucks. The rest of the players are now wondering if they are next.

I’m not ready to give up on ersson yet and want to give Fedotov a shot. They also have kolosov. They might have someone already but we have to give them a shot.

Yes. I’m not saying that’s what your opinion was but there were posters who felt that way. Ersson was the guy and that made hart expendable. I don’t agree with that personally. You need two good goalies really and we had that. It was working fine and I’d have been fine to re sign hart. I expect his drop in play in the new year was due to the impending legal mess as I’m sure he knew.

I think you’re spot on in your side note. The whole scratching of a respected vet who is worn down likely crushed the morale of the team. It was a wild move. As bill has said, there was no need for him to use that bullet yet.

allegedly Sam could'nt handle a heavy workload on the phantoms down the stretch. cant seem to handle one on the flyers. maybe he is noting more than a quality backup.

is anyone really surprised if they miss the playoffs? many here thought they were not gonna be bad enough for a top 5 pick and not good enough to make the playoffs. so at the end of the day they may draft in a spot many thought before the season.

if it wasn't for several other teams totally schtiing the bed they wouldn't even be in the playoff race.

Everyone is gassed or banged up at this time of year. They are going through a rough patch where they are not burying their chances and aren’t getting the saves they were getting earlier. I mean the are out shooting and out chancing their opponents every game…does that sound like a “gassed” team ? I agree enough of the excuses.

I am still holding out hope they make the playoffs and I will root hard for them to win and be disappointed when they don't.

That being said.

All this season has succeeded in doing is trick the franchise (and some fanbase) in to thinking they are closer than they are. I just hope they wise up and fight the urge to act like it.

I bet the 3 stooges are giving themselves a pat on the back. looking forward to seeing who they try to overpay in free agency on the backend. reading between the lines sanhei and york are gassed.

didnt chuck a few years back use some crazy stat to say they were the most improved team or something to that effect. dont remember all the details.

He may or may not be a good NHL starter but the guy is a rookie starting at a pace more than the established elite goalies in the league. To judge the guy based on that is absurd either way.

For those clamoring for a proper rebuild they are quick to throw rookies down the toilet if they aren’t studs right away. Can’t wait for when the Flyers start working in rookie defensemen.

Frost starting to consistently perform as a 2nd line center. York establishing himself as a legit #2 defensemen who can take big minutes. Foerster hitting 20 goals while playing as a top level defensive forward. Brink getting NHL experience and not looking out of place. Picking up Poehling for nothing and getting his career back on track. Flyers acquiring another 1st round pick for 2025. These things don’t do anything for you?

Lack of talent has caused the over work of some players. With 4 starting dmen out, having to play 2 old men and 2 rookies, he had to play sanheim and York more than he wanted.

I agree, I am not sure if this is most games he has had to play in a season. But he has had to play a lot.

not judging him at all, just making a statement. so that being said.....

lets talk about the goalies. there is zero doubt the flyers knew the hart situation was coming to a head at some point. when it did they did nothing to help sam along. seeing how he "wore" down last season then that is a total failure. danny boy failed sam.  if they really thought felix or cal could help then shows the competency of their pro scouts. on a side note remember when they didn't want to waive felix in the beginning of the year thinking he would get claimed. I member.

now I would bet they have an ext ready for Ivan; 2 years 2 million per? would be funny though if he decided to test the free agent waters.

so the coach has no blame in the "over working" of players?

wasnt this, what did they call it a rebuild? isnt that the time to see what you have and distribute the minute more evenly?

speaking of rebuild cant wait to see cam nd and staal back in the lineup monday. need those vets this time of year

The last 2 seasons. If they had been selling the past 2 years we would have been way better off. Wasted opportunities - JVR for nothing, Laughton, Seeler, Couturier, soon to be TK, the whole Gauthier debacle because there was no room for him on this team. Their philosophy is just wash, rinse, repeat and guess what, nothing for 50 years Same thing with the Phillies -- Atlanta drafts and develops elite talent; Phillies just sign it . Except, they are crypt keepers.

They took a chance that Petersen could be an NHL backup and that failed. Hathaway and Poehling make up for that bad bet.

No specifically saying you, but too many fans are helter-skelter about what they want. They want the Flyers to tank but get mad when they acquire a bad goalie. They didn’t want them in the playoffs but are now complaining they won’t make it. They want a rebuild but don’t want to give young players time to develop. Pick a lane or it just sounds like complaining to complain to me.

they took cal as a cap dump. not sure they saw him as a viable nhl backup. again if they did goes back to their pro scouts; horrible scouting. did they even watch him the last few years?

they had the perfect chance to really rebuild and show this is a diff regime. so far they have not. they can move the guys with real value to set them up for the future. I have zero faith they will go that route. it will be the opposite. just a rudderless franchise from where I sit.

Happy Easter Bill and everyone! Last night's game SUCKED! Remember when everyone was on board with trading Hart because Ersson was the next big thing? Well all I know and Chicago had 8 high danger chances the entire game and 5 ended up in the net. The Flyers had 12 and most of those where in the pads, off the post or up in the glass. The PP is back to embarrassing stage after having an upswing. The lack of finish and skill on this team is finally catching up to them now that the goaltending is back to pre-Hart effectiveness.
- jd250

Nope, you have it wrong. What was said by many, including myself is that the Flyers shouldn't get into a high number deal and re-signing Hart. Ersson is a rookie and most goalies, including Hart have ups and downs. It's a mistake to place too much value on this season and having tunnel vision.

Nope, people were saying not to keep Hart because he would not be worth the contract that he would get if the Flyers re-signed him. Many don't realize it, but the Hart situation hockey wise for the Flyers. Is a blessing in disguise.

call it what you want.

when you have trade-able assets that do not fit the timeline you move them. not re-sign or keep.
