Vancouver defenseman Tyler Myers is the only player remaining in the league to have suited up in a playoff game for the Sabres. Myers, now 34, was traded in 2015 and is nine games away from playing in the 1,000th of his career.

Who would've thought that hiring a business admin/accounting guy would be a bad choice to run a professional sports franchise. It's almost like hiring a soccer GM to coach a hockey team, outrageous I know.

He was director and then chairman. He fired 3 GM's.

Here's a 2019 piece about his tenure.

"Krueger was infamous for his incoherent interviews, and was at his least intelligible when asked to explain what his role entailed. He would often talk in vague terms about providing ‘accountability’- a managerial buzzword that is becoming increasingly prevalent in every sphere of life. Yet he outlasted three managers appointed on his watch as Saints drifted to the brink of relegation.

Claude Puel, Mauricio Pellegrino and Mark Hughes were the ones ultimately held accountable for Saints’ slide down the Premier League, along with former director of football Les Reed. Apparently when things went wrong, Krueger was less keen on being held accountable."

“Best outlet + stretch pass completion rate this season (49 D with 1,000+ attempts)...

Owen Power: 78.2%
Adam Fox: 77.6%
Cam Fowler: 77.5%
Josh Morrissey: 76.6%
Cale Makar: 75.3%”

Always thought he made a good breakout pass but didn’t expect it to be that good

IF they fire Donny or any of the coaching staff, when do they do it? Immediately after season end? Close out day? Some random day in August when poor season ticket sales prompt Terry to release his purse strings? Don’t think hockey is like football and the Monday.

Then what team goes to Atlanta, or do they hold off on that and a 2nd new 3xpansion team for a couple seasons?
It would make sense to me to wait for the dust to settle from the Coyotes relocating, although a couple $B split 32 ways...who's turning down a cool $62.5m?

No one should go to Atlanta. How stupid can they be.

50% of teams in the NHL make the playoffs each year.

This means the chances of an average franchise to miss the playoffs 13 straight years are 1/8192, or 0.01%.

Needless to say, the Buffalo Sabres are not an average franchise.

I know people like to look at past attendance as a metric for why a team fails, but good ownership is far more important. The Thrashers ownership group was a disaster, and the Hawks struggled mightily during their time there too. Hockey is still a novel sport in most places. You need to give people a reason to show up.

Clifton, I think, has really come around as the season has went on. I'm fine with him now. I think RyJo is 1 of the top6 next year. 7th defender isn't a huge deal for me, get a vet that can player coach, who doesn't have the last name of Johnson.

What do you think?

- QuinnFan

Why are you fine with am overpaid at $3M per bottom pairing defender in Clifton.

Do you think it's good to pay the bottom pair north of $7M annually?

Exactly right.
If one does think that way, where else should the money come from in a Cap league, of which the Sabres likely join in another season. Yes, the Cap will go up, allowing for marginal higher salaries, but certainly not for mismanagement of the roster...again.

Unless Sammy gets his play and health back to sustainable levels, he is at risk of becoming a trade candidate. Inserting RyJo into the lineup on his elc is a smart and necessary move if they intend to acquire another bonafide Top 4 Dman rather than hoping someone plays above their capabilities...which the team has had so much great success with.

Rather than having $7.6m tied up in 3rd pairing Dmen, perhaps they should focus on revamping the D to have 4 solid players at the top, and 2 younger and serviceable on the 3rd Pair making a combined $2 or $3m. Use the other $4m or $5m to pay for that 4th defender.
