That map below the meter and the map below the numbers on NST are location maps where shots and shot attempts are tracked.

Right, but it doesn't show the quality of the shot. Just where they were taken from. The chart below shows most were low danger attempts

The money puck dots on the ice map are tracked scoring chances. The heat map on NST is more vague. I'm not gonna deny the public data when the Rangers were out shot 41-25. Igor when into Igor mode and they got the win.

edit: Even this graphic shows that the Avs had more combined high and mid danger chances. It's ok to admit Igor stole those two points.

I'm not denying public data either. I just posted a chart that proved most of the Canes scoring chances were low danger ones. Just because a team is out shot, does not mean they were out played. Shot totals are a small indicator. It was an evenly played game that required a shootout to decide the winner, that's a fact.

They also did it with 4 defenseman for a good portion of the 3rd and OT. Give the team some credit

That's what I'm saying not their fault, but they also were on the wrong side of that. If they get average goaltending last night, they lose. Simple as that.

62% of the Avalanche's scoring chances were low quality attempts as opposed to 43% for the Rangers. The Rangers had a higher percentage of mid and high quality chances. You are just looking at the number itself which is not fair and doesn't tell the full story.

I’m not arguing for or against anything here, but the % only matters if the number of chances were equal. If a team had one singular scoring chance and it was high danger it would be misleading to say 100% of their scoring chances were high danger without adding context

I'd say % matters on a case by case basis. How often do you see teams with 1 scoring chance?

IN THIS CASE SPECIFICALLY, the percentages matter. A team that consistently generates high-quality scoring chances and efficiently capitalizes on them is more likely to win, even if they have fewer total shots compared to their opponent

That game seemed like a microcosm of what we already knew: our team struggles at 5-on-5 compared to the other elite teams in the league, and we will need Igor to stand on his head and play like that in the playoffs if we want to win a cup.

Igor played well as he should, just dont think the avs dominated but they did carry play for stretches of the game

They have been pretty good 5v5 since the deadline. Avs are probably one of the best there. Rangers down two regular dmen and 3 got hurt mid game. I would say not to shabby

Definitely not too shabby, but compared to the elite of the elite teams we just aren't as good. 17th in expected goals for at 5-on-5. Decent enough of course, and clearly good enough to be in 1st overall in the league, but just saying that we will likely have to get used to winning games like that one yesterday where the other team pours it on against us for long stretches 5on5.

Was just listening to the Wyshnewski espn pod "the drop" and they did a little deep dive segment on NYR. Basically we score more than we're expected to, and allow less goals than expected, so they surmised it's tough to know what to make of that come playoffs.

I grew up with Greg. Really smart guy but he is a hard core devil fan. Take what he says about the Rangers with a grain of salt.

"Thank you Igor" I believe is the direct quote you're looking for. A full goal better than what he was expected to save.

That model can potentially work for NY bc they have a top 5 goalie and they just have to be top 15 in xGF. They have enough talent to win that way. Time will tell

Come here after a huge win and read their nonsense. Charts charts charts!! And when you’ve read those, let’s argue over more charts!
